Jalan Ampang Bus Lane Hours Extended To Evenings Starting May 19
GENERAL
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- The dedicated bus lane along Jalan Ampang will be extended to cover the evening peak hours starting May 19, operating from 4.30pm to 7pm on weekdays (Monday to Friday).
Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus), in a statement today, said the extension is being carried out in collaboration with the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR). It will cover a 0.62-kilometre stretch from the Jalan Memanda 1 junction to Jalan Memanda 9, and from the Jalan Cengal junction to the Jalan Wawasan Ampang traffic light junction.
'The move will benefit passengers on route 300 (Pandan Indah – Lebuh Ampang Hub) and route 303 (Mulia Jaya Terminal – Lebuh Ampang), as well as feeder bus services from Pandan Indah, Bukit Indah, Mulia Jaya and Lembah Jaya,' the statement said.
Since the bus lane was introduced on July 3, 2023, the average daily number of passengers along Jalan Ampang has increased by 12.52 per cent — from 12,819 to 14,424. The lane has also helped reduce travel time by 10 to 15 minutes.
Rapid Bus acting chief executive officer Ku Jamil Zakaria said the improved travel time and smoother journeys are expected to attract even more commuters to use public transport.
He also reminded all road users to follow traffic rules and not misuse the bus lanes, as they are meant to benefit everyone.
A three-month evaluation will be carried out together with JKR, the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to monitor travel times, bus speeds, road safety, and traffic conditions in the affected area.
The public is encouraged to plan their journeys using the PULSE app, which can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. Real-time bus locations can also be tracked via Google Maps.
For any enquiries or feedback, the public can contact Rapid KL through its official social media channels.

JPJ: Sabah, Sarawak drivers can renew road tax at self-service kiosks from June 6 — if vehicle registered in 2020 or later
PUTRAJAYA, June 5 — Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax) renewals for individual private vehicles can be carried out at Road Transport Department (JPJ) kiosks in Sabah and Sarawak starting tomorrow. JPJ, in a statement today, said the renewal service will be available at 41 kiosks; 21 in Sabah and 20 in Sarawak. This service, however, applies only to private vehicles registered from 2020 onwards. 'For individual private vehicles registered before 2020, owners or their representatives must go to the JPJ counters for renewal,' it said. In addition, renewals can also be done via the MyJPJ app, mySIKAP JPJ portal, JPJ mobile counters, and JPJ strategic partners. Vehicle owners are also advised to ensure their motor insurance coverage is valid and active before renewing their road tax at JPJ kiosks, as the system will automatically verify insurance details during the transaction. 'This initiative is part of JPJ's ongoing efforts to enhance service efficiency and provide greater convenience to the public by digitalising its services. 'Through the use of self-service kiosks, users can carry out road tax renewals independently and quickly without needing to queue at the counter,' the statement said. At the same time, JPJ reiterated its commitment to expanding access to digital services, in line with the government's aspirations for a fully digital public service transformation and more efficient service delivery. — Bernama

Scams, trust issues plague secondhand motorcycle market in Malaysia
Unlike the used car segment, the motorcycle resale market remains largely informal and often operates without standardised inspection or certification systems. 08 Jun 2025 09:00am With online classifieds and social media enabling easy access to buyers, fraudsters can post seemingly attractive listings, sometimes priced below market value, to lure in victims. - Photo illustrated by Sinar Daily KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's secondhand motorcycle market continues to grapple with trust issues as buyers face growing risks of fraud and a lack of transparency in transactions. chief executive officer Gil Carmo said unlike the used car segment, the motorcycle resale market remains largely informal and often operates without standardised inspection or certification systems. Red flags often include listings without warranty or return policies, unverified sellers and prices that appear too good to be true. - Photo illustrated by Sinar Daily "With online classifieds and social media enabling easy access to buyers, fraudsters can post seemingly attractive listings, sometimes priced below market value, to lure in victims. "The lack of traceable sellers and formal platforms allows such scams to persist, and without physical showrooms or accountability, it becomes difficult to take action once buyers are deceived,' he told Bernama. Carmo stressed the importance of buyer education and awareness, noting that red flags often include listings without warranty or return policies, unverified sellers, and prices that appear too good to be true. "Although efforts are underway by some market players to introduce structured inspections, verified documentation, and post-sale protections, there is still room for the industry to improve buyer safeguards and overall transparency. "Buyers deserve peace of mind just as much as a good price, and until that becomes the norm, trust will remain the biggest hurdle,' he said. The CEO highlighted several common scams in the market, including odometer tampering, where high-mileage motorcycles are disguised as low-usage units to fetch inflated prices, a practice that continues to trap many unsuspecting buyers. "Other scams include illegal modifications, forged ownership documents, and sellers who disappear after receiving upfront payments. "These bikes may come with hidden reliability issues or unresolved financing status, which buyers often only discover when attempting to transfer ownership,' he said. To mitigate such risks, Carmo said his company has implemented several measures, including a 170-point inspection by in-house mechanics, verification of legal documents, and a six-day return policy with a six-month warranty. "These steps are aimed at giving buyers peace of mind. We also ensure full transparency by using only company-taken photos and videos for listings, and we encourage test rides so buyers know exactly what they're getting,' he added. iMotorbike is a Southeast Asian online platform that facilitates the buying and selling of pre-owned motorcycles, offering services such as inspections, warranties, and financing to ensure a safe and transparent transaction experience. The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) disclosed that total losses from commercial crimes last year amounted to RM3.11 billion, with 41,701 investigation papers initiated. CCID director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf revealed that fraud was the most prevalent crime with 73,240 cases resulting in losses exceeding RM2.45 billion. Of this, online fraud accounted for 35,368 cases involving a loss of RM1.57 billion, as reported by Bernama previously. - BERNAMA

2.5 Million Vehicles Expected To Enter Penang Ahead Of Aidiladha
GEORGE TOWN, June 5 (Bernama) -- Penang Police expect 2.5 million vehicles to enter the state ahead of the Aidiladha celebration this Saturday. State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the figure was based on projections by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) of vehicles passing through the North-South Expressway (PLUS) from May 26 to June 8. 'In addition, the increase is likely attributed to the current fruit season in Penang,' he said when contacted by Bernama. To prepare, the JSPT launched an operation dubbed 'Op Lancar' from May 31 to June 8 to ensure smooth traffic flow during this period, he added. Hamzah said sufficient personnel have been deployed to patrol and monitor areas prone to congestion and accidents. Meanwhile, he noted that the police have identified several traffic hotspots where control efforts will be focused, including the Penang Bridge, Jalan Masjid Negeri, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, and areas in Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT). In this regard, he advised motorists to exercise caution by avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving and ensuring their vehicles are in good condition for safe travel. -- BERNAMA
