Time of Indiaa day ago

Umesh Shukla denied rumors that Aamir Khan and Vidhu Vinod Chopra bribed him with Rs 8 crore to shelve 'OMG: Oh My God!'. He explained similarities with 'PK' were coincidental, as both films explore religion. Both movies remain popular for their thought-provoking themes and storytelling.
Aamir Khan
's 2014 blockbuster 'PK' faced comparisons to Akshay Kumar's 2012 film 'OMG: Oh My God!' since both tackled themes related to religion. Recently,
Umesh Shukla
, the director of 'OMG', dismissed rumors suggesting that Aamir and producer
Vidhu Vinod Chopra
bribed him to halt his film's release.
Clarification on Bribery Allegations
In a recent interview with Friday Talkies, Umesh dismissed the bribery rumors, clarifying that the claims about Vidhu offering him Rs 8 crore to not make the film were merely gossip and never happened. He emphasized that
Rajkumar Hirani
, Abhijat Joshi, Chopra, and Aamir Khan are all highly talented and dignified individuals who would never engage in such petty behavior.
Similar Ideas and Independent Creations
Shukla revealed that his play had been running in theatres for a long time, and that 'PK' writers Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi had already seen it.
He suggested they might have independently developed similar ideas. He added that if 'PK' had been released before his film, people might have accused his work of resembling 'PK'. According to him, when creators explore similar themes, some overlap is natural—just as in a love story, where expressions like 'I love you' are expected.
Continued Popularity of Both Films
Both 'PK' and 'OMG: Oh My God!' achieved tremendous success at the box office and have remained beloved by audiences over the years. Their thought-provoking themes and engaging storytelling continue to resonate, making them popular choices for fans who enjoy revisiting these films time and again.

When Karisma Kapoor's father Randhir Kapoor said ‘we don't need Sunjay Kapur's money, we are Kapoors': ‘We don't run after…'

Although she was engaged to actor Abhishek Bachchan in 2002, poised to join the legendary Bachchan family as bahu, their relationship did not last long, and the two called off their engagement a few months later, following which Karisma Kapoor tied the knot with industrialist Sunjay Kapur the very next year. However, they parted ways just over a decade later. Parents to two children, Karisma and Sunjay's divorce battle was, however, ugly. While Sunjay, who passed away on June 12, alleged that she married him for money, Karisma's father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, lashed out at him once, accusing the industrialist of infidelity and debauchery. Randhir also reminded him that they don't need anyone's money, as they belong to the Kapoor khandan. 'Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don't need to run after anyone's money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives,' Randhir Kapoor shared during a chat with Hindustan Times in 2016. 'I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull**** to her and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this,' he added. According to Forbes, Sunjay had an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion (Rs 10,300 crore) at the time of his death, and he joined the ranks of the World's Billionaires in 2022. A large chunk of this comes from Gurugram headquartered Sona Comstar, which operates 12 manufacturing facilities and employs over 5,000 people across India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the US. Sunjay took over the reins of the company after his father, Dr Surinder Kapur, passed away in 2015. At present, the company has a market cap of Rs 10,300, and has seen huge boost from the electric vehicles (EV) space over the recent years. As per Daily News and Analysis (DNA), the industrialist paid the actor a whopping Rs 70 crore in alimony. A 2016 ANI report also stated that he had purchased bonds worth Rs 14 crore for their two children, with an annual interest payment of Rs 10 lakh. He also transferred ownership of a house previously owned by his father to Karisma.

Mumtaz Wonders Why 'Very Wealthy' Amitabh Bachchan Became An Actor: 'They Had A Bungalow'

Last Updated: Mumtaz says Amitabh Bachchan had a privileged life and questions his struggler image. Amitabh Bachchan is often hailed as the symbol of grit in Bollywood — a man who rose from rejection to reign as the industry's biggest star. But veteran actress Mumtaz recently shared a contrasting view, suggesting that his early life was far from the image of hardship that fans usually associate with him. Speaking to Radio Nasha, Mumtaz said she didn't see real struggle in Amitabh's beginnings and compared their vastly different upbringings. 'See, I had to drop out of school in fourth grade, and I started working as an extra in films. I was 7 years old and we used to get Rs 500 for a role, out of which Rs 100 I had to give to person who got us the job, and the rest I used to give to my mother. On the other hand, Amitabh ji was a highly educated and classy person. His father was a known figure, and they had a bungalow and a nice life, so I don't understand why he needed to become an actor," she said. The two actors worked together only once — in the 1973 film Bandhe Haath, directed by OP Goyle. While the film may not be remembered as a major hit, it marked a rare collaboration between two celebrated names. Mumtaz recalled her time working with him fondly. 'He was very wealthy, well known and educated. He wanted to work; I said yes, and we made that film. I was very happy to work with him; he is a very nice person. He has a certain class, and I wish I could have done more films with him so that I could have learnt more from him." Interestingly, Bandhe Haath released the same year as Zanjeer, the film that transformed Bachchan into a national sensation and redefined the hero archetype in Indian cinema. From there, he delivered iconic performances in films like Sholay, Deewaar, and Amar Akbar Anthony. Mumtaz was one of the most popular actresses of the 1960s and 70s, known for her expressive performances and effortless screen presence. She starred in numerous box office hits like Do Raaste, Brahmachari, and Roti, and was celebrated for her on-screen chemistry with Rajesh Khanna. First Published: June 15, 2025, 09:36 IST
