IIT Bombay receives ₹100 cr donation towards hostel infrastructure
MUMBAI: Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, cofounders of BrowserStack, a cloud web and mobile testing platform, pledged ₹100 crore to their alma mater Indian Insititute of Technology Bombay (IITB) on Tuesday. The contribution aims to upgrade student housing facilities and transform the residential experience for students on campus. Both Aggarwal and Arora graduated from IITB in 2006 with B Tech degrees in Computer Science and Engineering. Since then, they have gained international recognition as technology entrepreneurs and leaders focused on innovation and solving global challenges.
Part of the donation comes through BrowserStack's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program committed to nurturing India's brightest minds through education and innovation.
A statement issued by IITB said the donation will primarily be utilised towards two infrastructure initiatives -- the complete reconstruction of Hostel 6, where both Aggarwal and Arora lived during their undergraduate years and Project Evergreen, a large-scale effort to modernize Hostels 7, 8, and 21. These upgrades are part of the institute's mission to enhance hostel infrastructure and accommodate 14,000 students in a modern and inclusive campus environment.
Arora, who is also the CEO of BrowserStack, reflected on the impact of IITB's environment on their journey towards building their company into a global tech leader. 'Through this contribution, we're not just rebuilding hostels but also investing in environments where the next generation of tech leaders can collaborate, ideate, and push boundaries,' he said.
Aggarwal, the company's CTO, spoke about the personal connection to the project. He said, 'My journey from Hostel 6 to building a global tech company showed me how powerful the right environment is for nurturing innovation. This contribution is personal for us. We're simply giving back to the institution that showed us what's possible when talent meets opportunity.'
Professor Shireesh Kedare, director, IIT Bombay said that this support will significantly enhance the living and learning environment for students on campus. 'This generous gesture by Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora exemplifies the spirit of giving back that our alumni community upholds. NEW DELHI: In an effort to enhance access to drinking water in public spaces, the Delhi government is set to roll out a pilot project to install 20 water ATMs under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The project is aimed at addressing the scarcity of potable water facilities in high-footfall areas such as markets, hospitals, metro stations, and bus terminals. The initiative will be executed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with private entities invited to install and operate the ATMs. According to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), these units will be standalone installations featuring inbuilt water purification systems, reverse osmosis (RO) technology, and cold water dispensers, particularly active from March to October to cater to the summer demand. Each water ATM will have a minimum storage capacity of 500 litres and will be constructed using stainless steel. The units will also be fitted with GPS tracking for real-time location access and displays showing water quality indicators to ensure transparency. The DJB has specified that the operational and maintenance costs of these facilities can be offset by granting advertising rights to the private partners. The Delhi government will launch a pilot project to install 20 water ATMs through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, providing cold drinking water to the public, officials said on Friday. According to officials, observing that there is a scarcity of drinking water facilities at public places like markets, hospitals, metro stations and bus terminals, the decision has been taken to install water ATMs at such locations on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode. According to the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) plan, the water ATM shall be a standalone unit with water purification and dispensing arrangements. They will be equipped with real-time water quality monitors and a display system. "We plan to provide water ATMs in all government schools and drinking water facilities in other areas across the city," Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said during a public event on Friday. The DJB has invited private companies to set up standalone water ATMs having a minimum capacity of 500 litres, made of stainless steel and equip with a built-in RO system. "Water ATMs should be equipped with provisions for cold water during summer months from March to October. The ATM shall be equipped with a GPS system for showing the real-time location of the ATM," the tender says. To recover the operation and maintenance costs of the drinking water facility, the company would be allowed advertising rights. In April, Water Minister Parvesh Verma announced that the Delhi government would be setting up 5,000 water ATMs across the city. This would include around 3,000 installed by the board through its own funds. DJB maintains a 14,697-kilometer piped network covering 93 per cent of Delhi's population. Water is distributed through underground reservoirs and booster pumping stations. In water-scarce areas, which are situated at the tail end of this network, like JJ clusters and unauthorised colonies, water is supplied through water tankers.
