Applications open for Albuquerque's ‘Artists At Work' initiative
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the second time, Albuquerque has been selected to receive funding for the national Artists At Work initiative. Through a partnership among Albuquerque's Department of Arts & Culture, The FreshGrass Foundation, and THE OFFICE performing arts + film, the Mellow Foundation will provide funding to support four artists with salaries, health benefits, and retirement benefits for an 18-month term.
The City of Albuquerque's Department of Arts & Culture was selected to participate in the Artists At Work initiative as part of the Borderlands Region in 2022; this is the Duke City's second round taking part in this art and community-boosting initiative.

With Artists At Work, the selected artists will receive a yearly salary of $40,000, $60,000 total, from June 1, 2025, through November 30, 2026. The artists will work in a national cohort of 24 total artists to further their work, engage with community needs, and participate in workshops, documenting their journies throughout the process.
'We're committed to supporting the incredible artists and creatives that shape our city's vibrant cultural scene,' said Dr. Shelle Sanchez, director of Arts & Culture. 'Partnerships like this one play a crucial role in sustaining and expanding our efforts, ensuring that arts and culture continue to thrive as a cornerstone of our community's identity and economy.'

Free drive-in movie experience coming to Balloon Fiesta Park
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A free drive-in movie experience is coming to Balloon Fiesta Park thanks to a collaboration between the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. The event is part of the Summer of Nonviolence initiative to provide youth with fun and safe activities throughout the summer to keep them engaged and active. Attendees will be able to watch the movie from their vehicle, or they can bring their own chairs and sit in a designated area near the movie screen. Audio will be accessible from car radios via a transmitter and speakers near the seating area. Anyone who completes a survey that will be provided at the event will be given a voucher to use at any of the food trucks on-site. ABQ RIDE reminds drivers to 'Stay in Your Lane'

Mark Warren, ABQ RIDE Operations Manager, says the ART buses travel in the inside lanes and one of the biggest issues they are seeing is vehicles making left turns into the ART lanes. With the roads getting busier during the summer months ABQ RIDE wants to remind drivers to pay attention to street signs, signals and be aware of ART buses when driving through the ART corridor.
