Futureheads' Barry Hyde digs out personal coal mining link
The Futureheads' guitarist Barry Hyde has said he discovered his own tragic mining roots while working on his latest album.Hyde was commissioned by Sunderland City Council to create an album - Miner's Ballads - inspired by north-east England's mining heritage. He said he did not know a lot about the industry before starting to work on the project, but unexpectedly found out two of his relatives had been killed in a mining disaster."What I really learned from it was that, as much as not many people miss the mines, there was an amazing community and soulfulness around that job," Hyde said.
In preparation for the project he bought books with lyrics of folk songs and "started to dig into it from that side", rather than focusing just on the history."I was reading essentially poetry about the world of the collier," Hyde said.It was then he discovered he had a very personal connection to coal mining.
'Profound humanity'
In February 1882, a gas explosion at Trimdon Grange Colliery, near Durham, killed more than 70 miners.Hyde found he was related to two of them who were aged 12 and 14 when they died. The closing track of Miners' Ballads, an adaptation of a song by the "Pitman's Poet" Tommy Armstrong, is about the tragic event. Hyde, who runs the Peacock pub in Sunderland city centre, said: "It was hard for me to sing it because of the profound humanity of the lyrics, especially around looking after the orphans who lost their fathers.""God protect the lonely widow," the lyrics read."And raise each drooping head."Be a father to the orphans"Never let them cry for bread."Hyde said the high risk nature of the job brought communities together."It made people appreciate each other and appreciate getting your partner to come home at the end of the shift."And maybe we miss that in the modern world, although we don't want these dangerous jobs back. But now she has been replaced by Sophie Monk, who will be familiar to Love Island fans as she hosts the Australian version of the show. It is understood that Maura has not been axed however, and the shake-up is due to scheduling conflicts. An insider teased: "She wasn't able to commit to hosting Aftersun this season due to other work commitments, but she will be back on screen in some capacity later in the run." While it's not confirmed, one fan theory is that she is believed to be filming the US version of The Traitors, following in the footsteps of fellow Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. It is thought that she may return to host Aftersun for the second season of Love Island Games, which films later this year in Fiji. The cast for the next series of The Traitors USA has yet to be officially confirmed. The Love Island shake-up news was announced last night via an instagram post on the show's official account. Alongside a posed snap of a beaming sofa, the caption read: "Welcome Sophie Monk to the Aftersun family!" Main show host Ariana Madix, who found fame on Vanderpump Rules, shared her excitement over the new hire. "You guys have no idea how much i'm dying over this." Fans were quick to ask where Maura was. Back in February, she faced a huge backlash after she was snapped sharing a drunken kiss with McFly's Danny Jones at a Brits after party. The pair grew close after starring on ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! last November. And while Danny has patched things up with wife Georgia and issued a grovelling apology, Maura has not publicly commented on the scandal.

The 2025 Macy's July 4 fireworks will be launched from NYC's East River
Good news for East Siders and Brooklynites: The Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks are returning to the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River for 2025. Specifically, the show will launch from the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and four barges positioned on the lower East River in the Seaport District. Macy's hasn't yet provided a list of best viewing spots, but you can expect miles of prime public viewing. The spectacular display is the largest Independence Day in the nation, which paints the skyline in an extraordinary display of light and sound. It's been a pyrotechnic tradition since 1976 for good reason—the show is truly incredible. Though exact timings haven't been announced, last year's show began at 9:25pm, so keep that in mind when making your plans for Friday, July 4. As for viewing locations, any anywhere with an unobstructed view of the sky above the lower East River should do the trick. In the coming weeks, keep an eye out for additional details on public viewing, as well as a city-sponsored lottery for free public viewing tickets. Last year, the fireworks were hosted on the west side of the city, delighting west siders and New Jerseyans. For a decade prior to that, the fireworks had been launched from the East River, and now they're back. "Macy's doesn't just light up the sky—we ignite a shared tradition," said Will Coss, Macy's 4th of July Fireworks executive producer, in a press release. "By bringing the fireworks to New York City and communities across the country, we create a spectacular event that celebrates joy, unity and togetherness. We are proud to bring people together year after year to honor the traditions that connect us all." While the show brings hordes of New Yorkers to sidewalks and viewing parties, it's also broadcast across the nation on NBC and Peacock for all to enjoy beginning at 8pm.

'Love Island USA' contestant exits after clips of racist language surface online
Yulissa Escobar will not be finding love in the villa on Season 7 of "Love Island USA." The 27-year-old from Miami exited the show on the second day after video clips surfaced online that appear to show Escobar using racist language while on a podcast. In two podcast clips shared by TMZ, Escobar used racial slurs when talking about men and relationship drama. Escobar's abrupt exit was not given any context on the show. "Welcome back to Love Island USA," series narrator Iain Stirling said at the top of day two, which aired Wednesday. "Yulissa has left the villa." Although it is unclear exactly when Escobar left the show's villa in Fiji, she was last shown sleeping during the first night with 22-year-old Ace Greene, with whom she coupled up during the first episode. Escobar coupled up with Greene after he was already paired up with another contestant, Chelley Bissainthe. It is also unclear if Escobar was edited out of the show. "Love Island USA" is streaming on Peacock, which NBCUniversal owns. Peacock confirmed to NBC News that Escobar left the villa, but did not offer specific details on the reason for her departure. Escobar, who owns a mobile bar in Miami, has not yet publicly spoken on the backlash. She last shared photos from the first day in the villa on her Instagram story on Wednesday night. She did not immediately respond to an NBC News request for comment. During cast introductions shared on YouTube, Escobar revealed she was in a 9-year relationship prior to coming on the show. Her mother was born in Cuba, and her father was born in Missouri. "I could be fire, so don't play with fire because you might burned, baby," Escobar said in a clip shared on Instagram.
