Denton County Sheriff Busts Three In Prostitution Sting
The Denton County Sheriff nabbed three – including an alleged pedophile – in an anti-prostitution mission.
Deputies conducted a 'Prostitution Demand Suppression Operation' in Denton on May 29, according to a release from the sheriff's office. They arrested John Kolby Holland for online solicitation of a minor, and Patrick Daniel Smith and Nicholas Matt for soliciting prostitution. Matt faced an additional charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon.
'This operation aimed to reduce prostitution in our community by arresting individuals attempting to purchase sexual favors for money,' reads the release from the sheriff's office.
Holland's bond was $25,000, Smith's bond was $1,000, and Matt's bond was $1,000 for solicitation and $2,500 for the weapons charge, according to jail records. All three were booked on May 29 but were released as they posted bond the next day.
During the investigation, deputies found 'leads on other persons engaging in Prostitution,' according to the release. The sheriff's Human Trafficking Unit is following up on these leads.
Dallas saw a surge in sex trafficking and prostitution in 2024, as The Dallas Express previously reported. The city is also home to hundreds of 'escort sites,' illicit massage businesses, and brothels. Northwest Dallas – District 6 in particular – has historically been the site of many such criminal activities. Earlier this year, a 13-year-old was forced into prostitution off Harry Hines Blvd.
These explicit activities have also spread beyond Dallas. Last year, the City of Plano sued the Red Rose Spa, alleging it was a front for 'illicit activities, criminal conduct, and lewd behavior,' as The Dallas Express reported at the time. The city claimed the business was 'advertising the sale of young girls, attracting deviant clientele, and placing the community in danger.' Just weeks earlier, another Plano massage parlor closed down after allegations it was offering prostitution.

Bail Reform Victory In Texas Answers Victims' Calls For Justice
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott traveled to Crime Stoppers of Houston on Tuesday to sign four bail reform bills into law. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, bail reform has been a major focus for Abbott during the most recent legislature, claiming in April that it is a 'deadly and broken bail system.' The bail reform package signed into law by Abbott included Senate Bill 9, Senate Bill 40, House Bill 75, and Senate Joint Resolution 5. allows prosecutors to file appeals for bail that is provided to alleged criminals who commit certain crimes while also allowing only elected judges to reduce the conditions of bail set by another elected judge. Meanwhile, prohibits using state funding to help support any nonprofit that helps provide bail to criminals. was designed to encourage transparency throughout the early portions of the criminal process. Magistrates will now be required to provide a written explanation about why an arrest was conducted without probable cause. Finally, Senate Joint Resolution 5 amends the Texas Constitution and requires judges to deny bail for criminals who commit the worst crimes. The state must prove that the defendant would be a threat to society or would not show up for future trials. Abbott said while signing these bills that the state was dealing with a 'revolving door bail system that repeatedly released dangerous criminals back onto the streets.' 'To the victims and their families, today your pain is answered. Not only are we signing laws that correct the wrongs, your efforts have led to a rewriting of the Constitution of the State of Texas to ensure criminals like those who harmed your families will never be out on the loose again,' he added, according to The Office of Gov. Abbott. Abbott was joined during this event by Aimee Castillo, who has become a bail reform advocate after her brother was murdered by a criminal who was out on bail. Castillo spoke during the event and echoed many of Abbott's comments, calling the previous bail system a 'revolving door' that allowed criminals to walk the streets. 'There is something deeply, tragically wrong with a system that gives repeat, violent felony offenders chance after chance, while families like mine are given a life sentence of grief. I am proud to have played a small role in getting these bills passed, and I am proud to tell my brother he became a catalyst for change,' she added, per The Office of Gov. Abbott. Abbott was also joined at this event by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Chairwoman Joan Huffman, Chairman John Smithee, Crime Stoppers of Houston CEO Rania Makarious, and Crime Stoppers of Houston Director of Victim Services and Advocacy Andy Kahan.

Simmons' Middle Finger Filibuster: Tarrant County Meeting Turns Juvenile
Tarrant County Commissioner Alisa Simmons gave County Judge Tim O'Hare the middle finger when he cut off her filibuster in a meeting that ultimately resulted in redistricting. 'Sadly, not the least bit surprising,' O'Hare told The Dallas Express. The county commissioners met June 3 to deliberate a redistricting proposal, which ultimately passed, and which, as The Dallas Express reported at the time, gave Republicans an advantage in future elections. Simmons and Commissioner Roderick Miles Jr. voted against the effort, while O'Hare and County Commissioners Matt Krause and Manny Ramirez voted in favor. Ahead of the vote, Simmons demanded lawyers with the conservative law firm Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) – which helped draw the new map – come out from a back room to face public questioning. O'Hare informed her the lawyers planned to consult with commissioners, but officials did not have subpoena power. Then, Simmons launched a filibuster. 'They're going to bring their butts out here, and stand at that podium, and answer my questions,' she said, as The Dallas Express reported. 'I'm going to continue speaking until they make their way out here.' After Simmons spoke for several minutes – calling the proposed redistricting 'racial gerrymandering' and 'intentional discrimination' and criticizing PILF – O'Hare questioned whether her comments were on topic. He called for a closed session to discuss parliamentary procedure. Then, she flipped him the bird. Keller Mayor Armin Mizani – who supported redistricting – called Simmons '[u]nfit to serve.' 'If you can't have a policy discussion and debate without acting like an entitled 13 year old, then you are unfit to serve in any elected office,' he posted to X. Simmons has a history of obscenity in public forums. Earlier this year, when a speaker used obscenities during a meeting, she defended the actions – using an 'expletive' in an interchange with O'Hare, according to KERA. As The Dallas Express previously reported, Simmons also ran for Texas House District 94 in 2020, when she was caught on tape using vulgar profanities with a voter. The Dallas Express reached out to Simmons' office but did not hear back in time for publication. Simmons said in the meeting she was concerned redistricting would 'put the majority of the communities of color in one precinct' and remove the 'key economic engines,' as The Dallas Express reported at the time. The same day, O'Hare posted on X that redistricting is about taking political ground – citing similar Democrat efforts in Dallas, Harris, Bexar, and Travis counties. 'Far too often Democrats take ground while Republicans cede it,' he posted. 'That is no longer the case in Tarrant County.'

Why Drake London could lead the NFL in catches
Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice, fantasy analyst Matt Harmon and NFL writer Charles McDonald discuss the Falcons wide receiver's skill set, what makes him among the best in the league and why he could be in for a monster 2025 season. Hear the full conversation on 'Football 301' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts , Spotify , YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I'm gonna actually start with my London discussion. Advertisement Uh, Matt, you had him at #9. I am at number 7, but why bullish on Drake London and Charles, you said he lost the coin flip to bake the 10th spot, I believe. So we'll call it the de facto number 11. Uh, but Drake London, Matt, why are you bullsh on him in 2025? I know you are a fan, but I want to hear, I want to hear more. Man, fantastic player. Um, you can throw him out there ex receiver and he has the press coverage ability and the ball skills to win there, even if he's not the fastest guy in a straight line. He is so fluid underneath to beat pressman coverage, but this new Falcon staff last year did a great job like moving him around the formation, putting him in the slot, getting him off the line of scrimmage, and he just truly became like another tier of a weapon better because of that. Advertisement Um, just when yeah, whenever he was inside, like. Just hit him on an end breaker again and again and again and again. Um, I think he could, he could be a candidate to lead the NFL and catches, uh, if Michael Penix is, is the guy. And I think Pennick probably stylistically is just not gonna lead to that type of, uh, that type of efficiency from his wide receiver, one in terms of Leading the NFL in catches. But I think what we saw with Pennick when he was under center in the final three games, like, he's gonna unlock that area of Drake London's game where he's so good along the boundary. He's so good on these like deep, deep outbreakers. Advertisement So, um, and he catches up, he sneaks up on you after the catch. So yeah, I think Drake London's been playing. At a level where he's like kind of knocking on that door of a top 10 receiver, and I think this is the year like consensus wise, he absolutely smashes through it. I, I've been a fan of London since he came out and been a fan of him with whoever's calling plays there, even in the Arthur Smith offense and everything, he catches everything, and, and I just think that. Yes, he's not this deep thread, he's not gonna take every throw to every catch to the house, but at his game, his box that he plays in, he's elite, like he is top tier ball skills, top tier contested catch guy, and it's not, again, it's not theory, he's doing it week in week out.
