Sergeant Bluff murder suspect found incompetent to stand trial

Yahoo07-05-2025

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A man accused of killing one person and wounding another in a shooting has been found incompetent to stand trial at this time.
In February of 2023, Woodbury County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a shooting on Buchanan Avenue in Sergeant Bluff. At the scene, they found Raymond Rogers and Ashley Rogers with gunshot wounds. They also discovered someone had died in the shooting and identified him as Gerele Eli Jones.
Authorities believed Raymond Rogers, 44, was the suspect in the case, and his gunshot wound was a self-inflicted injury.

In December of 2024, the defense asked the court to determine if Roger was competent to stand trial after court proceedings were paused earlier in the year. This is because Rogers' injury, a gunshot wound to the face, likely caused a neurocognitive disorder that impacts his memory.
Court documents alleged Rogers and Ashley Rogers were married for over a decade before the marriage began to fail, prompting Ashley Rogers to leave the relationship. After they separated, Ashley Rogers began to live with her boyfriend, Gerele Jones. Following the deadly shooting, Raymond Rogers was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and violation of a no contact order.

On Tuesday, May 6, the Court concluded, because Roger suffers from the disorder and doesn't understand the victims were killed and injured, he is incompetent to undergo a trial at this time. Proceedings are suspended indefinitely.
Earlier this year, Ashley Rogers filed a lawsuit, claiming Sioux City Police Officer Jamie Mattas and the City of Sioux City failed to enforce a restraining order she had against Rogers.

Former Bengals cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones arrested for disorderly conduct outside Cincinnati

Former NFL cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested near Cincinnati on Friday night, per multiple reports. Jones, who was best known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and assault of an officer. Jones was booked in Kenton County Jail, just outside of Cincinnati, just before 2 a.m. He was released Saturday on $100,000 bond, and has a court appearance scheduled for Monday. Advertisement Additional details of his arrest have not been reported. Jones was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2005 as the sixth overall pick out of West Virginia, and later went on to play eight seasons with the Bengals. But his NFL career was often marred by legal issues: Jones had a series of off-field incidents, including involvement in a shooting in Las Vegas, in his first two years in the league. As a result, Jones was eventually suspended by the league for the 2007 season, essentially marking the beginning of the league's personal conduct policy. Jones officially retired from the NFL in 2019, but his legal troubles continued. Just before his retirement, Jones was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in a casino in Indianapolis. In 2021, he was charged with assault in Hamilton County, OH after punching and kicking someone in the head until they were unconscious. Advertisement Jones was also arrested in 2023 after an incident on a plane, and was charged with misdemeanor alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening. However, the former cornerback denied those charges, saying at the time that he was just requesting a different seat so he could charge his iPad. He was also arrested last November after the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul boxing match in Arlington, Texas, and charged with public intoxication, assault on a peace officer, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
