Canada's Whitecaps players back in training after Marsch alleges ‘poisoning' in Mexico
Canada men's national team head coach Jesse Marsch alleged on Friday that three members of his team who traveled to Mexico with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the Concacaf Champions Cup final were 'poisoned.'
The Whitecaps lost to Cruz Azul 5-0 in Sunday's final and cancelled their training session on Wednesday after a 'significant number' of players and staff members fell ill with gastrointestinal symptoms. In a statement the club said: 'As a precautionary measure, and in consultation with the club's medical team, as well as the local infectious disease consultant and Vancouver Coastal Health, the club cancelled training on Wednesday and held a modified individual closed session for cleared players today.'

The Whitecaps have not alleged any foul play, and the club even brought its own chef as a precautionary measure after the Columbus Crew suffered a similar fate during its Concacaf Champions Cup final against Pachuca. That did not deter Marsch from making pointed allegations, despite later clarifying that he had no proof.
'It's for me, appalling that this is the second year in a row that Concacaf and the powers that be have allowed an MLS team to go down to Mexico for a big final and get poisoned,' Marsch told reporters after a Friday morning event with the Canada Ukraine Foundation (Ukraine is in Toronto to play Canada in the Canadian Shield friendly tournament). 'It's ridiculous. Something has to be done to protect these environments.'
The players Marsch is referencing are Vancouver's Jayden Nelson, Ali Ahmed and Sam Adekugbe. After returning from Mexico, the Whitecaps trio trained separately from the rest of the Canadian squad during their first session in Halifax.
'Look, in the past when you would go down there, I remember being with the U.S. national team and club teams going down to Mexico, it was 'will the fire alarm be pulled in the middle of the night? Will there be dancing and singing?' And those are somewhat spirited, competitive advantages that are created when you go down to Mexico. But poisoning the team is another, is another version,' Marsch said.
'Look I don't have any proof here that this (happened) but it's not random,' he added. 'It's not random that two years in a row this has happened. If I were the Vancouver Whitecaps, if I were the Columbus Crew, if I were MLS, I would be absolutely angry that this has been allowed to happen.
'When all three of (Nelson, Adekugbe and Ahmed) are sick, it's clear. It wasn't just 'Ah I don't feel so great'. There was talk of whether it was an infectious virus but in the end, I don't want to speak but I think the results are that it was food poisoning.'

All three Whitecaps players trained with Canada during Friday's morning session in Toronto, but Marsch said it was unlikely they would be available for full 90-minute performances on Saturday against Ukraine.
Canada plays Ivory Coast in another friendly on Tuesday that serves as preparations for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, where Canada will face Honduras, El Salvador and Curaçao in group play as it vies for its first title since 2000.

Fan Sends Strong Message After Caitlin Clark Makes Daughter Cry
Fan Sends Strong Message After Caitlin Clark Makes Daughter Cry originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark picked up where she left off after her Rookie of the Year season, starting the new WNBA season by averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists through four games. Advertisement However, she suffered a left quadriceps strain during the fourth game, sidelining her for at least two weeks. The 23-year-old has already missed three games but provided an update on her status Thursday. 'I've made a lot of progress and I feel good, but I'm not going to rush my way back if it's not worth it," Clark said. In the meantime, Clark has been sitting next to head coach Stephanie White during games, soaking in what she can. Her pregame routine while she has been out hasn't changed, though — she still makes her rounds before warm-ups, signing autographs and taking photos with fans. In the post, she added a long message, sharing that her daughter, Chandler, was brought to "literal tears" after an autograph and picture from Clark. "What a Trip! This trip exceeded everything we had hoped for dove into all things @indianafever to get the FULL experience. Chandler got to see all the players warm up, got waves, pictures with her favorites, and autographs! We even got to shoot a shot on the court! An autograph AND picture with Caitlin brought Chandler to literal tears!!! Truly an unbelievable experience and we are so blessed to have been able take Chandler on this trip and make memories we will remember forever! 🏀 ❤️💙💛 Go @indianafever! We are rooting for yall to make it all the way!!" Advertisement Note: Swipe to the second photo to see Chandler crying. Clark was once a "young girl" and understands how impactful she can be for fans. She has spoken about why she signs autographs and takes photos. "I was that young girl at one point in my life, and I'm only 23 years old, so it feels like it was just a short time ago," Clark said. "So I can definitely empathize for what they're feeling and what they're going through, but also a lot of people spend a lot of time and money and resources to be able to have an opportunity to come watch this team play or come watch me play. "I certainly understand that, and I try to make as much time as I can to sign an autograph because that can really impact somebody's life," Clark added. "Who knows? Maybe they're going to put that up in their room and look at it every single day and have something to dream about." Caitlin Clark Hilariously Got Into It With Fever Teammate on Friday
Caitlin Clark Hilariously Got Into It With Fever Teammate on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark is still out with a quad injury. She is set to miss her fourth straight game on Saturday in the Indiana Fever's marquee matchup against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. Advertisement Amid her injury, Clark has been doing all she can to support her teammates in whatever way possible. She has been cheering from the bench during games and has been attending practice to help push her Fever teammates. The 23-year-old has remained active on social media as well, which involves the occasional troll job on her Fever teammates. Friday's victim was Lexie Hull, who was on the receiving end of a "weird" jab from Clark on one of the team's Instagram posts. Indiana Fever guards Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull© Grace Smith/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Hull responded by accusing Clark of being a "super uninteresting gal." Hull even decided to drag her twin sister, Lacie Hull, into the exchange, alleging that Clark is "obsessed" with her and her sister. Advertisement Not to be outdone, Clark clapped back with one final message to end it all. "I like Lacie not u," wrote the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year. This is far from the first time Clark and Hull have been involved in some back-and-forth on a very public platform. It was all in good fun, though, which also speaks volumes about the relationship these two have. Hull will need to be at her best on Friday as the Fever take on one of their biggest rivals. Clark won't be on the court to help Indiana against the Sky, and players like Hull will need to step up in her stead. Curaçao's Gervane Kastaneer, currently playing for the Indonesian Persib Bandung, was worth his weight in gold with a hat trick before Juninho Bacuna made it 4-0.
