The Amateur review – Rami Malek is a brilliant code cracker lacking in charisma
James Hawes, who directed the entire first season of Slow Horses, clearly knows his way around the spy genre. Which is why this disjointed thriller about a brilliant CIA code cracker turned elite operative (Rami Malek) delivers at least some pacy thrills and globe-hopping intrigue, despite numerous issues with the screenplay, structure and casting. As Charlie Heller, Malek is one of the casting question marks. Heller possesses the kind of tech wizardry that goes beyond a credible skill set and starts to feel a bit like magic. After the death of his wife in a terrorist attack, he's lured out from behind his computer screens to do the job that his CIA colleagues seem unable or unwilling to perform: the systematic killing of everyone involved in his wife's murder. It's a promising pulpy premise, but Malek feels too wan and underpowered in the charisma department to be carrying an action flick. Two curiously unmoored scenes featuring Jon Bernthal in tantalising badass spy mode suggest a brutal hit job during the edit.

Las Vegas VIP waitress Toni swiped Ben - leaving Burnley lass Shakira single. Shakira then had 24 hours to make a new connection or be dumped from the island. If Shakira could convince a boy to split from his partner she'd be saved. When Maya Jama returned to the villa, three lads said they were willing to leave their couple and stood up for Shakira. Harry, Conor and Blu all threw their hat in the ring. But Conor, Helena's partner, and Blu, who is in a couple up with Alima, had to awkwardly sit back down. Taking to X, one viewer said: "It must be so awkward to have stood up and not get chosen… the second hand embarrassment is crazy." A second echoed: "Imagine having to sit back down next to the girl u just publicly said you'd dump after not getting chosen pmsl." And a third said: "No because the thought of the boys that don't get picked having to sit back down acting like nothing has happened." Love Island fans name show's real villain branding them 'rotten to the core' - blonde Meg during the divided girls chat The ITV2 show beauties were left worried last night when Shakira confessed she was interested in "everyone". Shakira, 22, ruffled feathers with her antics. She pulled Dejon - who is coupled up with Meg - for a chat first. Shakira then wasted no time and asked Harry for a chat on the terrace and things quickly turned flirty. Shakira teases: 'Haza you little minx!' Harry then replies: 'It's day two come on let's keep it PG.' Putting the effort in to find a new connection, Shakira then pulled Conor for a chat and he told her: 'You surprised me, you came in with massive energy, but I feel like you're not like that, you're chill and smart.' Shakira admitted: 'I love the Irish accent, it's sexy! I've never dated an Irish guy.' She also caught up with Blu telling him: 'I think it's good cause it gives everyone a kick up the bum…I think you've got a good vibe…you're very calming and I don't have to put on a bravado.' Their flirty banter came after fans had called for the lad to be kicked out - and his partner saved. Shakira's effort didn't stop there as she also pulled Tommy by the pool telling him: 'I think it's best I try to get to know everyone.' Love Island viewers threaten Ofcom complaints after very awkward scene
One Love Island couple has shocked viewers by getting down to business and locking lips on their first day as a pair on the ITV2 reality show after fears that a bombshell would split them up Love Island fans were left reeling just one day into the new series as one couple locked lips. Tensions reached a boiling point today as Shakira set her sights on finding a new connection after American bombshell Antonia stole her man. With the fear of being dumped from the island hanging over her, Shakira made it her mission to speak to as many of the boys as possible - but her female co-stars were not impressed. Meg seemed to be the most rattled after spotting her partner Dejon deep in conversation with Shakira, and nervously told the other girls: "I don't have my man, Dejon's gone – that's it!" However, the personal trainer was quick to reassure Meg that she is his favourite person in the villa, adding "You haven't got anything to worry about". Although Meg got the encouragement she needed, her counterpart Megan soon felt the pains of being on the chopping block as Shakira pulled Tommy for a chat by the pool. As things started to get more flirty between Shakira and Tommy, Megan decided she needed to make a bold move. She told the other girls: "I think I need to lipse him." Her friends were quick to egg her on, encouraging the Irish girl to lock her relationship down. Megan interrupted Tommy and Shakira's conversation, taking her man to the terrace where she admitted: "That made me a little bit jealous." One thing led to another, and Megan ended up claiming her man with a passionate kiss, much to the excitement of the Islanders down below who cheered them on. Viewers were shocked to see the stars getting physical so quickly, and took to X to share their thoughts on the scene, with one saying: "The kiss was way too soon." Another agreed: "Getting jealous and literally doing a forced kiss over someone you've known less than 24 hours is beyond unhinged." Some fans even declared they were going to make an official complaint to media watchdogs about the incident, with one saying: "Naa I'm submitting an Ofcom complaint, that kiss was too cringe, made me feel mad uncomfortable." Before coming on the ITV2 show, Megan revealed that she isn't fussy about a man's looks, saying she doesn't mind someone who is "scrawny" or has "a bit of a dad bod". Despite her easy-going nature when it comes to outward appearances, it seems that once another woman is becoming a threat to her love life, she has what it takes to go in for the kill. Meanwhile, Tommy came across as a down-to-earth lad, who admitted he has been knocked back a few times once girls heard what he did for a job. The landscape gardener said he wants a girlfriend who is caring and most importantly, doesn't take herself too seriously. He laughed: "I don't know if that's asking for too much, but I want a bit of everything. I haven't got a specific type in terms of looks, though."
