Vale's Curtis gets red card and ban rescinded

BBC News27-02-2025

Port Vale's Ronan Curtis has had his three-game ban rescinded following Saturday's straight red card against Salford City. The 29-year-old Irishman was sent off on the final whistle by referee Thomas Kirk for 'violent conduct' in the 2-1 home win over the Ammies. But, following a successful appeal by the League Two club for wrongful dismissal, the forward is now free to play in Saturday's lunchtime trip to managerless Tranmere Rovers. In a club statement, , externalVale said: "Our number 11 was sent off following the culmination of Saturday's fixture and was facing a three-game ban for what, at the time, was deemed violent conduct."Upon reviewing the evidence available to the club, we lodged an appeal to the FA which we have learnt, has been successful."Ronan will now be available for selection for our trip to Tranmere Rovers."Following a pre-Christmas slump, which saw them lose the League-Two leadership to Walsall, Darren Moore's side have won five times in a eight-game unbeaten league run since the turn of the year to sit three points shy of an automatic promotion place. Meanwhile, Vale have also announced that the local derby at promotion rivals Crewe on Saturday, 29 March has been brought forward to an earlier 12:30 BST kick-off time after being selected as a live TV game.

And SunSport understands Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle are all monitoring developments. Villa are thought to be keen on a loan deal for the player, but United would prefer cash to free up funds for a rebuild. Newcastle and Tottenham both see Sancho as a strong option as they look to build squads that can compete in the League and the Champions League. United have set a staggering £70m asking price on the Argentine winger. Garnacho is viewed as one of United's sellable assets this summer as he is considered homegrown, although he does have three years remaining on his contract. It said: "Sancho, 25, joined on a season-long loan on August 31 2024 and went on to make a total of 41 appearances for the club. "The winger registered five goals during his time at Stamford Bridge, with his final strike coming in the Blues' UEFA Conference League Final victory against Real Betis on May 28. "Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Jadon for his efforts and we wish him every success for the future."

Celtic eye 'bargain transfer for 16 goal Sweden star' but face three way tussle

Nygren has netted twice in his first three senior caps for his country Celtic are reportedly keen on a summer transfer for Nordsjaelland playmaker Benjamin Nygren. Brendan Rodgers is already off the mark in the window after Kieran Tierney 's sensational Parkhead return from Arsenal on a free transfer was confirmed while young Fulham striker Callum Osmand is having a medical ahead of a move north of the border. ‌ And SunSport now claim that Sweden international Nygren is also on the Irishman's radar. ‌ The 23-year-old joined Danish side Nordsjaelland from Genk back in 2022 and registered 16 goals and four assists last season to earn a place in the Superliga Team of the Year. The former IFK Goteborg player made his senior international bow earlier this year and took his tally to two goals from his first three caps with a strike in an impressive 2-0 win against Hungary last week. But with the wide man revealing he won't renew his current contract - which runs out at the end of December - his club may look to cash in on their star in order to avoid losing him for nothing in January. While the Hoops are said to be keeping close tabs on the player, the report also adds that they will face stiff competition from Anderlecht and Copenhagen. Attacking reinforcements will be high on Celtic 's transfer wish list this summer. The Hoops have been linked with a move for Telstar frontman Youssef El Kachati who is out of contract next month. ‌ But the Dutchman looks to have performed a last-minute U-turn by suggesting he will extend his stay with Telstar after helping them win promotion to the Eredivisie. Record Sport has revealed that the Premiership champions retain an interest in Motherwell sensation Lennon Miller, who is also wanted by clubs right across Europe. Reports elsewhere claim that Celtic are also still keen on Sarpsborg winger Sondre Ørjasæter, who was a target back in January. Keane eager for flying Ascot start in new Juddmonte role

The six-time Irish champion jockey was named retained rider to the leading owners earlier in the week and can look forward to a stellar book of mounts as he dives straight in at the deep end for his new employers at one of the year's most important meetings. Keane is embracing the challenge as he pays thanks to the role long-time ally Ger Lyons – one of the men who gave Keane his 'baby Mick' moniker – has played in his rise to becoming the weighing room's most wanted man. 'If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be on the stage I've got to. I was with him from when I was an apprentice, I went straight there from my father's and he has backed me 100 per cent,' said Keane. 'Ger has never hidden that and I'm very fortunate. I wouldn't be where I am without him. It was a pretty straightforward decision (to take the Juddmonte job) and once I had a chat with Ger and he was happy enough, we were all happy. 'I think Pat (Healy, racing photographer) and Ger came up with 'baby Mick' and it's not a bad nickname to have. But we try to keep it as relaxed as possible and get the job done. 'Royal Ascot is the pinnacle of our sport. It's the place where everyone wants to go – owners, trainers and jockeys – and so I'm very fortunate to have some nice rides to look forward to next week.' Keane is the first jockey since James Doyle to be committed to Juddmonte, joining the likes of Pat Eddery and Richard Hughes amongst those who have donned the famous pink, white and green silks on a regular basis for the Abdullah family's operation. It is not just decorated names in the saddle that are inextricably linked with Juddmonte but also some of the finest racehorses of all time, with the 30-year-old well aware of the history of his new role. Keane added: 'It was a 'pinch yourself' moment when the call came and I had to double check that it was actually Barry Mahon (Juddmonte's European racing manager) on the other end of the phone! 'When you get opportunities like this, you have to take them and we could be talking here for a while now about the horses that have come and gone in these colours. Hopefully there will be more to come. 'I'll be coming over whenever I am told and finding things out. I'll be talking to Barry Mahon and he'll be telling me where I need to go. I'll go over and back from Ireland and maybe having the odd day in France. I'll be kept busy, that's for sure.' First up for Keane will be his Ascot baptism of fire where his new associations will be put to the test on the grandest stage of racing. However, the Irishman is content to ride the waves of his brief honeymoon period ahead of a week in the spotlight in Berkshire, where Field Of Gold could prove the ace in his swelling pack as he looks to add to his two previous triumphs at the Royal meeting. 'I won't be able to tell you what the pressure is like until next week and we'll take it as it comes,' Keane added. 'I've a nice book of rides and the hardest problem is often getting on these horses, so it's a nice problem to have. You just have to take your chances. 'You are riding these horses for brilliant trainers and they will guide you the best way possible and you will have done your homework for sure. You're more looking forward to it than anything.'
