HMZ Group launches ‘Joint' furniture manufacturing arm with $4m Investment
HMZ Holding, the parent company of Homzmart—Egypt's leading e-commerce furniture platform—announced on Tuesday the official launch of Joint, its newly established industrial subsidiary specialising in home furniture manufacturing and supply chain management.
The launch coincides with the inauguration of the Joint Plant, a state-of-the-art factory located in the 6th of October Industrial Zone. Backed by an initial investment exceeding $1m, the facility is set to produce approximately 60,000 high-quality furniture pieces annually.
Part of a wider Joint ecosystem, the project integrates production lines across 60 dedicated partner factories, bringing total investments to over $4m. The Joint Plant alone is expected to contribute 20% of the collective output, with ambitious plans to scale production capacity to 700,000 pieces per year by 2027.
The initiative is poised to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities across manufacturing, logistics, assembly, and supply chain sectors—providing a significant boost to Egypt's labour market and contributing to national economic growth.
Spanning 10,000 square metres, the Joint Plant is now one of Egypt's largest specialised home furniture production facilities. It represents a major leap forward for the domestic industry, combining advanced technologies and a modern approach that integrates innovation throughout the production process.
Joint's production model is informed by in-depth analyses of consumer behaviour over recent years, taking into account seasonal demand shifts and regional variations. This data-driven strategy has enabled the development of a highly flexible and responsive production system, which minimises storage needs and aligns manufacturing schedules with real-time demand, ensuring efficiency, reduced lead times, and consistently high quality.
In addition to meeting growing domestic demand, Joint has set its sights on regional and international markets—including the Arab region, Africa, and Europe—leveraging its ability to offer competitively priced, high-quality products with record delivery times, all within a fully integrated and globally compliant manufacturing ecosystem.
Mahmoud Ibrahim, CEO of HMZ Holding and Founder of Joint, stated: 'We are committed to long-term investments in Egypt, fully aligned with Egypt's Vision 2030. Our goal is to establish Egypt as a regional industrial hub for furniture and home products.'
Omar Selim, Chief Business Officer at Homzmart and Managing Director of Joint, said: 'This factory marks a major milestone in our journey to localise furniture manufacturing. Our advanced production infrastructure now gives us complete control over the supply chain—from design to delivery—enhancing both product quality and customer experience. This agility will allow us to meet local demand swiftly and support our expansion into global export markets.'
Joint will produce one of the most diverse ranges of home furniture in Egypt, including bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, sofas, armchairs, salons, corner sets, various couch styles, sofa beds, wardrobes, recliners, tables, and kitchen units.
The launch comes at a time of surging demand for locally manufactured products in Egypt. Joint aims to meet this need by strengthening domestic supply chains and significantly reducing delivery times—ensuring product availability, premium quality, and competitive pricing across the country.

AOI, China's XGY partner to localize medical devices manufacturing in Egypt - Health
The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) and Chinese company XGY Medical Devices inked a partnership agreement on Wednesday to establish the Arab-Chinese Medical Industries Company for localizing medical device manufacturing. The signing took place on the sidelines of the fourth Africa Health ExCon 2025's opening, organized by the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement (UPA) from 24 to 27 June under the theme: "Innovation and Independence: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence and Local Manufacturing to Strengthen African Health Systems." Major General Mokhtar Abdel-Latif, chairman of AOI's board of directors, and Jiao Da Tian, chairman of XGY Medical Devices, signed the partnership. Egyptian Minister of Health Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar also witnessed the signing. In an AOI statement, Abdel-Latif said the agreement includes establishing a joint company to localize the medical device industry. The company will start with diagnostic and therapeutic radiology equipment in the first phase, leveraging AOI's advanced manufacturing capabilities. He added that the goal is to reduce the cost of imported technological components by designing and manufacturing them within AOI for the first time in Egypt, achieving complete localization of this vital industry. He further explained that the cooperation will include specialized training programmes for engineers and technicians working in the new joint company, along with providing maintenance services and spare parts. Abdel-Latif affirmed the AOI's commitment to forming strategic and productive partnerships with the global Chinese company to expand cooperation in the medical device manufacturing field according to international quality standards. The partnership aims to increase market access, meet local demand, reduce reliance on imports, and open export channels to African, Arab, and global markets at competitive prices. For his part, XGY's chairman expressed his pride in collaborating with the AOI. "This partnership reflects strong confidence in AOI's advanced manufacturing capabilities," he stressed. He further emphasized XGY's commitment to fully transferring its technology to Egypt through the joint venture with AOI. "This would enhance cooperation and expand export opportunities by capitalizing on Egypt's successful investment climate," he added. XGY Medical Devices, established in 1998, is a high-end medical equipment manufacturing project jointly constructed by Zhejiang Xingaoyi Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., Shandong Longzhiyuan Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., and Junan Caijin Group in 2022. The company integrates research and development, production, sales, and after-sales of magnetic resonance equipment. The partnership follows a cooperation protocol signed in May with Philips to localize the medical device industry and boost Egypt's capacity in biomedical engineering. The protocol includes feasibility studies for domestic production, development of device components, and establishment of a specialized biomedical engineering centre for knowledge transfer. In 2023 alone, Philips, a global tech company, made 607 medical technology patent applications, becoming the second largest applicant in the medical technology field in the European Patent Office (EPO) index. "ExCon 2025 will witness the signing of 15 agreements and contracts in the fields of medical tourism for African countries, as well as strategic partnerships to reform healthcare systems in several African nations," General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) Chairman Ahmed El-Sobky said on the sidelines of the conference. Egypt courts Chinese investment in key sectors amid economic reform drive - Economy
Egypt seeks to deepen economic ties with China as it pushes for foreign investment to support a broad programme of structural reforms and infrastructure upgrades. Planning and International Cooperation Minister Rania Al-Mashat led a high-level meeting with senior Chinese business figures in Tianjin on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. The talks focused on potential collaboration in sectors, including energy, digital infrastructure and logistics, under the 2014 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. The meeting, which was also attended by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Hassan El-Khatib, included executives from Chinese firms operating in industries such as automotive, pharmaceuticals, and finance. Al-Mashat presented Egypt's reform agenda as an opportunity for joint investment, citing progress in trade facilitation, private-sector development, and legislative reform. She also pointed to Egypt's geographic position and network of trade agreements as incentives for businesses looking to expand in Africa, the Middle East or Europe. While Egypt and China have maintained diplomatic and economic ties for decades, Beijing's role in Africa and the Middle East has expanded markedly in recent years, particularly through its Belt and Road Initiative. During the meeting, Al-Mashat referenced Egypt's Vision 2030 strategy, which includes targets for sustainable growth and localization of key industries. She also reiterated the government's interest in partnerships that support green transition efforts. In 2023, Egypt and China signed a memorandum of understanding under China's Global Development Initiative (GDI) and their first debt-for-development swap agreement—tools intended to increase cooperation in technology transfer, research and development. The government is now working on a medium-term strategy to guide these efforts. However, specific outcomes or projects have yet to be announced. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:
