Hundreds turn out to take part in the 40th annual Shinfield 10K

Hundreds of runners took to the streets of Shinfield for the 40th annual 10K.
The road race took place in the Berkshire village on Monday, May 5 where over 800 participants crossed the start line.
Sponsored by Honeysuckle Day Nursery and Parkers estate agents, the event has raised over £130,000 since its inception in 1985 and continues to support a number of local charities.
The MP for Woodley and Earley met runners at the finishing line of the 10K and children's race to hand out the hard-earned medals.
James Lyne was first to cross the finish line with an impressive time of 32 minutes and 55 seconds. He was followed by Nicholas Twomey in second place and Jack Boswell in third.
The first woman to finish was Lesley Locks in 37 minutes and 37 seconds, ahead of Caroline Hoskins and Jodie Penny.
Friends, family, supporters and local residents lined the streets to cheer on all the runners on the day.
MP Yuan Yang said: 'I really enjoyed handing out the hard-earned medals and meeting people throughout the event. Some were repping the Reading FC stripes and stopped afterwards to chat to my team and me about the sale completion.
'I also met Emma from Reading Roadrunners, who was one of many behind setting up the day.
'Thank you to all the volunteers and the over 800 runners for making the day so special!'

Couhig hints at securing new investors for Reading
Reading owner Rob Couhig has hinted that he and business partner Todd Trossclair are working to "bring in a couple of partners" to add more financial firepower to the club. The American businessman and lawyer completed a takeover of the Royals in mid-May and has since been working alongside new chief executive officer Joe Jacobson to get the club back on its feet. Couhig has said that manager Noel Hunt will have money to spend on players this summer, and suggested that he is looking to bring in more investors. "We're doing some things to make sure that Todd and I are not alone out there with our money," Couhig told BBC Radio Berkshire. "Although I think we could certainly afford it, we're bringing in a couple of partners that will add to our financial strength. "When it comes to spending, you can't go in like Mr Dai (Yongge) did and just spend money on players without some rational basis to the revenue the club generates." Bloomberg claimed weeks ago that Miami-based investment firm - Aliya Capital Partners were set to join Reading's ownership group. Part of the work that Couhig has done so far is to organise which of the players will be staying and which will be leaving this summer. The annual retained list showed that 11 first-team players had been offered new deals, and since then midfielder Lewis Wing has been the only one that has committed to remain. "We know how much money we can spend without violating the rules," Couhig added. "We will have as much money as all but three or four clubs in the league. "We're doing everything we can to increase the revenue so we can spend as much as we can on players, the more we spend on players then the better chance we have of success. "Our goal is to be successful and we want to be ambitious but honour our core principles of honesty, transparency and financial sustainability." Couhig also touched on the Royals' academy, and what the future would hold for what is currently a 'category one' set-up. Reading are well-known for their development of young players, with a prime example being Michael Olise, who the club financially benefitted from when he made a big money move from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich in 2024. "We're going to do our best to keep the academy as a category one," Couhig said. "But I'm a huge believer in the Brentford or Wycombe model where you have a great developmental squad which brings in late teens performing at a high level in with the first team. "What probably will happen we won't know for sure for some months as I haven't had a chance to chat about it yet, but Joe (Jacobson) has and he's making it a priority, the academy is not going anywhere." Iconic former Reading owner set for Q&A session at popular town centre venue
Sir John Madejski OBE will reflect on his time as owner of Reading FC at an exclusive Q&A event at the Purple Turtle on Tuesday, July 15, starting at 7.30pm. He will also discuss the new Reading FC ownership. Advertisement A Q&A will be followed by questions from the audience and there will be a chance to meet the former owner. Sir John became chairman in 1990 and, after the club had a new stadium built in his name, Reading went on to play in the Premier League for three seasons. He relinquished control of the club in 2012 and became honorary life president, and remains a staunch supporter of the club at the age of 84. He is also Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire and was knighted in the 2009 New Year Honours, for charitable services. The Purple Turtle in Gun Street, Reading, has hosted a number of Q&A events with former Reading stars and the Q&A with former manager Steve Coppell in April was a sell out. Reading chief calls on fans to 'keep the fight' in open letter as tickets go on sale
New Reading owner Rob Couhig has called for supporters to 'keep the fight' in an open letter as season ticket sales open. The American has been working on a job in New Orleans but is expected back across in the next 10 days, his first time over since officially purchasing the club. In the meantime, media interviews have been conducted online and co-CEO Joe Jacobson has been working from Bearwood alongside Noel Hunt and Brian Carey to get the ball rolling on squad building. Season tickets were put on sale this afternoon (May 22) and prices have been frozen until June 6, with anyone renewing before then invited to an open day at the training ground.
