Egypt rights council urges UNSC resolution against Trump's proposal to displace the Palestinians from Gaza Strip - Foreign Affairs
Egypt's National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) has called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to adopt a resolution classifying recent proposals by President Donald Trump for the US seize Gaza and transfer the native Palestinian population to build a Middle Eastern Riviera — as a threat to international peace and security.
In a statement on Wednesday, the NCHR urged the activation of UN legal accountability mechanisms against any party promoting or enacting forced displacement policies.
In partnership with human rights organizations, the council announced the launch of an international campaign to compile a detailed report documenting international law violations ingrained in Trump's plans.
According to the statement, this report will be submitted to the UN and international judicial bodies.
The NCHR advocated for the implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution aimed at establishing a fully sovereign Palestinian state and addressing the partition of Palestinian territories.
On Tuesday evening, US President Trump, flanked by a war-mongering Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu at a presser in the White House, announced a shocking colonialist plan for the United States to 'take over' the Gaza Strip and permanently displace its native Palestinian population, drawing immediate regional and international condemnation.
Trump disclosed his plan days after proposing 'relocating' and 'cleaning out' more than two million Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab and Muslim countries, also drawing Arab and international condemnation.
Egypt, Jordan, and Arab countries rejected all of Trump's proposals to displace the Palestinian people from their homeland, reaffirming that the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 under a two-state solution is the only just solution to the Palestinian cause.
International law?
The council asserted that Trump's statements violate international humanitarian law, human rights principles, and the United Nations Charter.
Trump's proposals contravene the Fourth Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the forcible transfer of people under occupation and collective punishment.
They also breach the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees freedom of movement and residence, noted the NCHR.
'The Gaza Strip, as an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory, enjoys full legal protection under international law. The call for deportation falls within the framework of international crimes punishable by the International Criminal Court (Article 8), which includes forcible transfer as a war crime,' the statement read.
The NCHR warned that such rhetoric not only incites violence but also furthers policies of ethnic cleansing, undermining prospects for a just peace in the region.

The NCHR urged the international community to cease political, financial, and military support for any entity that violates international law.
It also stressed the necessity of supporting ongoing international investigations into violations of Palestinian rights, including UN reports on war crimes in the occupied territories.
Additionally, the statement underscored the importance of supporting the role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in prosecuting perpetrators of war and genocidal crimes in the Palestinian territories, calling for the inclusion of parties supporting these violations on international sanctions lists.
In November 2024, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Israeli PM Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yaov Gallant on charges of committing war crimes against the Palestinian people in their war on the Gaza Strip.
The council also urged strengthening mechanisms for humanitarian and legal support for Palestinians facing displacement and settlement policies.
It stressed the urgency of reviving peace negotiations based on the two-state solution, adhering to the 1967 borders and international legitimacy resolutions.
Moreover, the Egyptian human rights watchdog condemned the international community's silence on such statements as moral complicity and warned that settlement expansion and forced displacement policies would only exacerbate regional crises.
'Targeting civilians and depriving them of their basic rights is a demolition of the system of shared human values,' the statement concluded.
Trump's proposals to liquidate the Palestinian cause — met with strong condemnation — came amid a fragile three-phase ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza war, which went into effect on 19 January.

UPDATED: Madleen sailing through Egyptian waters on way to break Israeli siege on Gaza - War on Gaza
An aid ship with 12 activists on board, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, is sailing through Egyptian waters and is nearing the besieged Palestinian territory, organisers said on Saturday. The Madleen, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, left Sicily last week with a cargo of relief supplies "to break Israel's blockade on Gaza". "We are now sailing off the Egyptian coast," German human rights activist Yasemin Acar told AFP. "We are all good," she added. In a statement from London on Saturday, the International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza -- a member organisation of the flotilla coalition -- said the ship had entered Egyptian waters. The group said it remains in contact with international legal and human rights bodies to ensure the safety of those on board, warning that any interception would constitute "a blatant violation of international humanitarian law". European parliament member Rima Hassan, who is on board the vessel, urged governments to "guarantee safe passage for the Freedom Flotilla." The Palestinian territory has been under an Israeli naval blockade since 2007, long before the outbreak of Israel's devastating war on Gaza in October 2023. The blockade, coupled with repeated military incursions over the years, has devastated Gaza's infrastructure and economy, exacerbating poverty and limiting access to basic services like healthcare and clean water. In 2010, Israeli commandos killed 10 civilians during a raid on the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara, part of a similar aid flotilla attempting to break the blockade. In May, another Freedom Flotilla ship, the Conscience, reported coming under drone attack while en route for Gaza, prompting Cyprus and Malta to send rescue vessels in response to its distress call. There were no reports of any casualties. Earlier in its voyage, the Madleen changed course near the Greek island of Crete after receiving a distress signal from a sinking migrant boat. Activists rescued four Sudanese migrants who had jumped into the sea to avoid being returned to Libya. The four were later transferred to an EU Frontex vessel. Launched in 2010, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition is a coalition of groups opposed to the blockade on humanitarian aid for Gaza that Israel imposed on March 2 and left more than two million Palestinians on the verge of starvation. Israel has faced mounting international condemnation over the resulting humanitarian crisis in the territory, where the United Nations has warned that the entire population of more than two million is at risk of famine.
