Christian Eriksen ‘prepared to find something new' with Man Utd deal expiring
Christian Eriksen expects to leave Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer.
The 33-year-old Denmark midfielder joined United on a free transfer in July 2022 after a short spell at Brentford, having returned to football following a cardiac arrest suffered during Euro 2020 the previous summer.
Having not heard anything over a possible contract extension with United, Eriksen – who had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) fitted – feels his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.
Eriksen – who also had spells at Ajax, Tottenham and Inter Milan – will not make any quick decisions on his next move.
'I haven't heard anything from the club, and therefore I assume that the collaboration will stop, that's how I interpret it,' Eriksen told Danish media ahead of the Nations League quarter-final against Portugal.
'My contract expires this summer and I am prepared to find something new. I am fine with that. Where it will be, I haven't decided yet.
'I haven't tried to be free of contract except after the cardiac arrest, but that was a bit of a different situation.
'I am waiting and seeing what offers come in. I am not going to make any hasty decisions, but if the right thing comes, I will take it – but I don't know what the right thing is.'
Spurs had been interested in bringing Eriksen back to the club before he signed for United under then manager Erik ten Hag.
However, he sees his future away from the Premier League.
'The intention is not to stay in England,' said Eriksen, who had been released by Inter because of Serie A rules over players fitted with an ICD.
'I am not going to the USA, we are not going that far. We would like to stay in Europe, but it is too early to go home to Denmark. I feel like I have some good years abroad left.'

According to Sky Germany, United have opened talks with Frankfurt over a deal and the Bundesliga side are demanding a fee of around £85million. However, the report adds that both Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested in Ekitike. Victor Osimhen Victor Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer after spending last season on loan at Galatasaray, netting 37 goals in 41 appearances. The Sun are reporting that he has emerged as a 'genuine back-up plan' for United after they missed out on Gyokeres, with Osimhen recently rejecting a hugely lucrative offer from Al-Hilal as he wants to remain in Europe. Jean-Philippe Mateta Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford after scoring 17 goals last season and helping his side lift the FA Cup. Mateta would be a more affordable signing given his contract is due to expire in 2027 and French outlet L'Equipe have previously reported that United have 'already positioned themselves' to make a move for the 27-year-old. Manchester United are the latest Premier League club to be linked with Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike after learning that Viktor Gyokeres will not move to Old Trafford this summer Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has set his sights on joining Arsenal after telling Manchester United that he won't be moving to Old Trafford. The Swedish striker feels he needs to join a club that will be playing in the Champions League next season and wants to challenge for the Premier League title. Sources at United have refused to comment on reports from Portugal that the 27-year-old has told the club that he has no interest in linking up again with his former Sporting coach Ruben Amorim in Manchester. But it is understood that the Reds have already started looking at alternative targets - and that they are ready to ramp up their interest in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Ekitike, 22, the France Under-21 international has also been attracting the attention of Liverpool after scoring 22 goals for the German club last season. But Frankfurt's £80million valuation of the former Paris St Germain forward will have to be lowered significantly before United table a bid. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has made it his mission to add more goals to Mikel Arteta 's squad next season. The Gunners have drawn up a shortlist that also includes RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Atletico Madrid's former Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez. Berta met with Sporting director of football Bernardo Palmeiro in Menorca last week to discuss Gyokeres. The former Coventry striker has scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 games in Portugal. And with Bayern Munich now registering an interest in Slovakian International Sesko and Argentine World Cup winner Alvarez settled in Spain, it appears that Gyokeres ticks a lot of boxes. One major issue is that the player's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, has become embroiled in an ugly war of words with Sporting president Frederico Varandas. Cetinkaya insists he has a written guarantee from the Sporting chief promising to do a deal with any club offering £59million. Varandas has countered by claiming that while he did make a verbal agreement to sell Gyokeres for less than the £84.7million get-out clause stipulated in his contract he is yet to set a valuation. Now Varandas is threatening to impose the full terms of the buy-out after being angered further by a threat that Gyokeres could go on strike to force through a sale. The row is further complicated by Cetinkaya's revelation that Sporting will have to pay him almost £6million if they reject an official bid of £51million up front and £8million in add-ons. But according to sources close to Sporting, they have told coach Rui Borges to prepare for the next season without his top goalscorer and have started the process of recruiting a replacement. There has also been confirmation from Portugal that Coventry will get a 10 percent cut of any fee that Sporting generate from selling Gyokeres. The Sky Blues had originally negotiated a 15 percent concession as part of the deal that took the Swede to Lisbon for £20million two seasons ago. Viktor Gyokeres: Striker would prefer move to Arsenal over Man United
Manchester United's hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres appear to have taken a blow after it emerged that the Sporting Lisbon striker would prefer a move to Arsenal. After failing in their pursuit of Liam Delap, United turned their attention to Gyokeres, who has earned a reputation as the most feared striker in Portugal after plundering 97 goals in 102 appearances for the reigning Primeira Liga champions. After United held exploratory talks with Gyokeres, the forward has let it be known that he wants to join Arsenal, although it remains to be seen whether the London club push ahead with their bid to sign the 27-year-old. Arsenal are thought to be split on the idea of whether they should sign Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is known to be a big fan of Sesko, but he rejected the chance to sign the Slovenia international because Leipzig wanted about £60million for the 22-year-old. United have also submitted an offer for the Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo that would amount to £55million but Tottenham Hotspur could now sign him after Thomas Frank's appointment as Spurs head coach. Gyokeres thrived under Ruben Amorim, now the United manager, during their time together at Sporting but it is understood that the striker wishes to play in the Champions League next season. United will not compete in Europe because of their 15th-place finish in the Premier League and their loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final. He and his representatives thought he would be allowed to leave for about £60million, even though there is a €100million (about £85million) release clause in his contract. 'I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €70million because I never promised that,' the Sporting president, Frederico Varandas, said. 'To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyokeres — neither today nor last season.' Gyokeres has already played in England, having spent three seasons with Coventry City in the Championship after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, before joining Sporting under Amorim. United are in need of a goalscorer after their first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund endured a miserable season, scoring ten goals in 52 matches in all competitions.
