Athlete marks 'Jaws' 50th anniversary with 60-mile swim

June marks five decades since a giant human-hunting shark swam into the seaside village of fictitious Amit, Massachusetts, terrorizing local beach-goers.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the horror movie 'Jaws', a three-hour film will air on NBC next week with a special introduction from the Hollywood blockbuster's director, Steven Spielberg, the network told USA TODAY on June 12.
The horror film, famous for its terrifying two-note John Williams musical intro (dun-dunn... dun-dunn) hit theaters on June 20, 1975, bringing new meaning to the fear of what's in the sea.
The movie features actors including Roy Scheider (police chief Martin Brody); Lorraine Gary (his wife Ellen Brody); Richard Dreyfuss (marine biologist Matt Hooper); and Robert Shaw (big fish hunter Quint).
'Universal is home to the biggest movies in the world, and it doesn't get any bigger than Jaws,' NBCUniversal Television & Streaming Chief Marketing Officer Jenny Storms said. 'We want to celebrate 50 years of this enduring film that has captured the public imagination for generations by bringing it to audiences at home in all the ways they love to watch.'

The Army Birthday Festival is expected to cost about $40 million, a Defense official who was not authorized to speak publicly previously told USA TODAY. The parade, which will coincide with President Donald Trump's 79th birthday on June 14, will feature military demonstrations, equipment displays and live music throughout the day, according to organizers. More than 7,000 troops, two dozen tanks and armored vehicles each and 50 helicopters are set to be part of the event. Here's a look at the results from AP-NORC's poll. More adults approve than disapprove of Trump's military parade Overall, 40% of adults surveyed said they approve of Trump's decision to hold a military parade. About 29% of adults said they disapprove, while 31% chose neither approve or disapprove. When broken down by party affiliation, just 20% of Democrats said they approve of the parade. Half of Democratic respondents said they disapprove and 29% said neither. For Republicans, 67% said they approve, while just 11% said they disapprove. About 21% said neither. But some fans have faced bad news as their favorites have been canceled. Shows like 'The Sex Lives of College Girls' and 'S.W.A.T.' had their last seasons recently, as both weren't renewed this year. CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said, 'We have to be fiscally responsible,' when talking about shows that have been canceled. 'The schedule is really full, and so we always have to look at all of our shows, look at the aggregate information, the creative of where they are in their life cycle, what the finances look like, what the ratings are, and then we make those tough decisions.' Here are some of the TV shows that have been canceled this year. Despite 'Suits' doing extremely well, its spin-off, 'Suits LA,' has been canceled after only one season, according to multiple sources. The NBC drama 'Found' has also been canceled after two seasons. NBC has also canceled two sitcoms: 'Lopez vs. Lopez' and 'Night Court.' CBS has canceled 'The Equalizer' after five seasons, as well as 'Poppa's House' and 'The Summit.' Amazon Prime also canceled two 'Citadel' spinoffs, after one season of each series. Instead, the storylines of each spinoff will be put into the second season of 'Citadel.'
