Notices of property value to be sent May 1 in Doña Ana County
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Doña Ana County's Assessor's Office will be mailing property notices of value on May 1 this year due to pending state legislation that affects veterans and their property tax, the County said in a news release.
According to the County, the legislation that affects property tax exemptions for veterans has caused the notices to be mailed a month later to all property owners.
Throughout the state, county assessors are generally required to mail the notices out around April 1, Doña Ana County said.
The deadline to protest is June 2, and protests and other types of reporting will not be accepted after the date, according to Doña Ana County.
'The New Mexico property tax code enables residents to dispute their valuation notice or update their status to qualify for head of household, veteran's, charitable or educational exemptions,' the County said.
According to the County, property owners with questions about the protest or status change process can contact the County Assessor's Office during regular business hours at the Government Center, located at 845 N. Motel Blvd. in Las Cruces.
Residents outside of the Las Cruces area can visit the following off-site locations to speak to staff members:

Property owners can receive a notice of value online through eNoticesOnline and by creating a new account.

El Paso hospital celebrates Project Search students
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso hospital celebrated its first class of students who made their way through a program designed to give them job skills and find employment. On Monday, June 2, the Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus celebrated its inaugural class of Project Search students with a graduation ceremony. This program provides opportunities for students with disabilities to learn job skills. The Sierra Campus is the fourth hospital within the The Hospitals of Providence network to have the program. At Sierra Campus, students started back in the fall. Throughout the school year, students are immersed in departments throughout the hospital and given the opportunity to learn new skills. Upon completion of the year-long program, many students will receive job offers within the hospital or in businesses throughout the community, The Hospitals of Providence said. 'We are truly proud to have welcomed this first cohort of Project Search students at the Sierra Campus this year and to have these incredible students as a part of our team – and to see them graduating today is remarkable,' said David Byrd, chief executive officer for The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus. 'Each one of these students has made incredible contributions to our hospital and they've made us better as leaders – we are so proud of them and can't wait to see the phenomenal things they are going accomplish. El Paso's Eloise restaurant announces closure at end of July
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The owner of El Paso's Eloise restaurant announced on social media on Friday afternoon, May 30, that they will close their doors at the end of July. 'Our lease is up for renewal and due to some pretty chaotic economic conditions, we made the decision to not renew our lease,' Jim Ward, owner of Eloise Restaurant and Bar, said. Ward said the restaurant's last day of service will be on July 31. 'We did just want to take a second and say how much we've enjoyed the past 13 years. Being a part of this community means everything to us and the support and love you all given us and our staff means everything. For now, we're going to put Eloise on a shelf and we will go from there,' Ward said. Eloise originally opened in 2012 along Shadow Mountain Drive in West El Paso as a coffee shop. Since then, Eloise has grown into a restaurant and bar and relocated to a larger space down the street at 126 Shadow Mountain, Suite A.
