DGP calls for zero-tolerance approach against drug menace
Hyderabad: Telangana State DGP Dr Jitender has declared the state's unwavering zero-tolerance stance on drugs, urging delegates to foster cooperation in curbing the drug menace. His call came during a crucial 'Convergence' meeting held on Thursday, which brought together drug law enforcement agencies from Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, along with various central and state bodies.
Key to the pivotal convergence meeting were discussions on current trends, intelligence and operations, financial investigation, technology partnerships, and a joint action plan to combat illicit drug trade.
Objectives deliberated during the session included assessing current regional trends in narcotic drug trafficking and emerging threats. Efforts were also made to facilitate intelligence sharing and enhance inter-agency coordination across state borders.
The agenda also covered joint operations and coordinated field enforcement, building regional capacity through shared training, the use of advanced tools, and adherence to legal best practices. A structured inter-state action plan, complete with designated nodal officers and review mechanisms, was a significant outcome.
Sandeep Shandilya, Director, TGANB, provided an overview of the current scenario of drug trafficking in Telangana. He appealed to the delegates to share information when dealing with inter-state cases and operations. He also advocated for identifying drug consumers and directing them to de-addiction centres through courts, in accordance with Section 64(A) of the NDPS Act.

AGTF seizes marijuana worth 2cr, arrests five for smuggling in Jaipur
1 2 3 4 Jaipur: In a major crackdown on interstate drug smuggling, Rajasthan's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Friday seized 424 kg of marijuana concealed in a truck and arrested five individuals, including the alleged kingpin in Jaipur. The seized consignment, valued at approximately Rs 2 crore in the international market, was being trafficked from Chhattisgarh to Jaipur under the guise of a medical delivery. According to ADG (Crime and AGTF) Dinesh M N, the AGTF team intercepted a Scorpio SUV at the Shivdaspura toll, which was found escorting a mini-truck. Based on a tip-off, the police set up a blockade at multiple locations. The truck was later seized in the Chaksu police station area, loaded with sacks of marijuana hidden beneath boxes labelled as medicines. The arrested accused include Sumer Meena (48), the alleged ringleader and a resident of Khorabisal, Jaipur West; Narendra Singh Jat (45); Nanagram Balai (55); Deepak Gurjar (38); and Himanshu Mata (29) of Karnal, Haryana. All five were booked under the NDPS Act. Delhi HC denies further interim bail to woman suffering from cancer, directs best treatment
New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant interim bail to a woman accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and is suffering from cancer, noting the submissions of prosecution that her ailment can certainly be taken care of even during her stay in jail. However, the court has directed to provide her best treatment at hospital of her choice at the expense of government. The High Court said, '... accused, being in judicial custody, it is the duty of the State to ensure her well-being and right to good health.' Justice Girish Kathpalia rejected Jyoti's interim bail plea and directed her to surrender before the jail authorities on June 15. The High Court considered the submissions that she is a bad character of the area. She has 29 cases against her, out of these 4 are under NDPS Act. In the present case, 480 grams of heroin were recovered from the accused Jyoti. 'I find substance in submission that the rigours of Section 37 NDPS Act cannot be ignored by the Court,' Justice Kathpalia observed. While dismissing the petition Justice Kathpalia said that the ailment, unfortunately suffered by the applicant is certainly a significant factor but I find substance in the submission of learned Prosecutor that it is not an ailment of temporary kind. Justice Kathpalia said, ' I am unable to accept this submission. For, the only response prescribed by law to crime is curtailment of the criminal liberty and when that is done, the prisoner, be it under-trial prisoner or a convict comes in custody of the State.' He further said that Medical treatment is also a matter of faith of the patient in the doctor, which has a vital role in recovery, so if the patient wants to be treated by a particular doctor, her/his right should not be curtailed. On June 6, the Delhi High court has granted interim bail to accused Jyoti till June 15. She had approached the High court after trial court refused to extend her interim bail on June 4. The High Court had sought a medical status report. 'The applicant is enlarged on interim bail on medical grounds till June 15, subject to the applicant furnishing a personal bond of Rs 1,00,000 with one surety of the like amount subject to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintendent/Trial Court,' high court ordered on June 4. Petitioner is an accused in an NDPS Act and was granted interim bail on May 19, 2025 till June 15 on the medical grounds in view of her condition. Senior advocate Amit Chaddha, counsel for the applicant, submitted that as per the Diagnosis Report of the hospital dated June 2, the applicant, Ms Jyoti, aged 39 years, is suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, an uncommon and rare kind of cancer. 23-year-old arrested, drugs valued at Rs 5.8L seized
Ujjain: A 23-year-old man was arrested and 58 gram MDMA drugs was seized from his possession on a checkpoint set up at Runija-Kachhibadoda road on Thursday. Based on a tip-off, Bhatpachlana police set up a checkpoint and arrested the accused, a resident of Badnagar in Ujjain district, when he was coming on a motorcycle from Kachhibadoda towards Runija. ASP Rural Mayur Khandelwal during a press conference said that Bhatpachlana police station in-charge, Satendra Singh Choudhary and his team arrested Naveduddin Sheikh, 23, for illegally possessing 58 grams of MD drugs. The drugs valued at Rs 5,80,000, along with an unregistered motorcycle valued at Rs 210,000 were seized. Naveduddin was arrested under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act. During interrogation, Naveduddin told the police that he purchased the narcotics a few days ago from his associate Shadab alias Sadda Khan, a resident of Jawra in Ratlam district, who is currently absconding and search for him is underway. Naveduddin has other associates in Badnagar and the investigation is ongoing. Naveduddin has a criminal background with three previous cases registered against him for assault and illegal arms possession at various police stations.
