Heartstopping dashcam emerges of the dramatic aftermath of a brazen drive-by shooting - as police give an update on who the REAL target was
Dashcam footage has emerged of the dramatic moments after a ute carrying two associates of the Alameddine crime gang was targeted in a drive-by shooting on one of Sydney 's busiest roads.
Detectives believe Samimjan Azari, 26, was the intended target of the shooting on Church Street beneath the M4 overpass in Granville on Sunday night.
The alleged Alameddine crime gang leader was in the backseat of a Toyota HiLux ute with his 'bodyguard' Levi Vitukawalu, 28, at the time. Both were uninjured.
However, the two men sitting in the front - fellow Alameddine associate Dawood Zakaria, 32, and solicitor Sylvan Singh - both suffered gunshot wounds.
Zakaria was shot in the head and remains on life support in hospital. Police don't expect him to survive.
Mr Singh suffered wounds to his upper body and is a stable condition. He doesn't have any underworld links aside from his work in the legal field.
Police said Sunday's incident was the third shooting in a 'tit for tat' internal war within the powerful Alameddine crime clan.
Dashcam footage showed the HiLux travelling in the opposite direction suddenly mounting the median strip on Woodville Road and swerving into oncoming traffic moments after seven shots were fired from a black Mercedes.
The ute pulled over moments later under the M4 overpass, where passing motorists also stopped to help the two injured men.
It's understood the gunmen was following the HiLux from a police station, where Azari had just reported for bail over an alleged armed robbery.
Azari was seen sitting on a footpath near the scene of the shooting on Sunday night while surrounded by police officers on Sunday.
Both his hands were covered with evidence bags.
Police allegedly found a firearm inside the HiLux and later charged Azari and Vitukawalu with possession of an unauthorised pistol and acquiring pistol subject to firearms prohibition order.
The pair appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Monday, where police prosecutor Kye Jiang opposed bail for Azari amid fears his 'senior role' in the Alameddine gang could cause further bloodshed, the Daily Telegraph reported.
'There will be further bloodshed on the streets, the streets will not be safe, and it's all because of his holding in the Alameddine network,' Sergeant Jiang said.
'This is the third shooting at the epicentre of this particular tit for tat feud between particular organised criminal networks.'

Azari and his 'bodyguard' Levi Vitukawalu (pictured) were charged with possession and granted bail in Parramatta Local Court on Monday
Sergeant Jiang told the court police were able to link the HiLux to Azari following months of police investigation and surveillance.
He added the need for Azari to travel with 'bodyguards' was an indication of an intense 'feud' in the gang.
'The firearm… the tinted windows… the need for two bodyguards is consistent with the position of a high-ranking member of the organisation who has already had an attempt on his life,' Sergeant Jiang said.
The court also heard that Sunday's shooting was the second attempt on the lives of Azari and Zakaria within months.
The pair previously survived another targeted shooting earlier this year at Brighton-Le-Sands in Sydney's south.
Azari's solicitor Christopher Parkin, described the prosecution's case as 'weak' and claimed they had little evidence linking the gun to Azari.
'There's nothing in the Crown case to suggest it was Mr Azari's,' Mr Parkin said.
'Attending the police station in the presence of a solicitor, knowing he was in possession of a gun, whilst subject to a firearms prohibition, just defies belief.'
Magistrate Bryan Robinson agreed and granted both Azarti and Vitukawalu bail.
The pair are banned from associating with anyone else who was in the HiLux at the time of the shooting as part of their bail conditions.
Those responsible for the shooting remain at large.
An abandoned Mercedes was found alight a short time later in a carpark 3.5km away near the intersection of Sherwood Road and Todd St in Merrylands West.
A second torched vehicle was later found in the neighbouring suburb of Woodpark.
Police are putting numerous resources into the investigation under Strike Force Arrino.
'I believe … everyone in that vehicle was potentially an intended target,' Criminal Groups Squad boss Superintendent Jason Box told reporters on Monday.
'There's one shooter, but potentially two that have fired at the vehicle.'
NSW Premier Chris Minns condemned those involved in the 'horrifying' attack and said they would be 'met with the full force of the law'.
'It's naked violence on Sydney streets, and I want to make it clear that NSW Police put enormous resources into it.
If you're caught in relation to one of these horrifying acts of violence or murder that you can expect to spend most of the rest of your life in a small jail cell,' Premier Minns said.
'This is appalling behaviour. It needs to be met with the full force of the law, and that's what will happen.'
Police urge anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the shooting to come forward.
The latest shooting comes just days after tradie John Versace, 23, who had no links to organised crime, was gunned down in a hail of bullets at his doorstep in Condell Park in the city's south-west.
Police are investigating whether the murder was a case of mistaken identity and don't believes it's linked to Sunday's shooting.

Parents of Brit backpacker, 24, facing 20 years in prison over fatal e-scooter crash fly to Australia
THE parents of a British backpacker facing 20 years in prison over a fatal e-scooter crash have flown to Australia to be with their daughter. Alicia Kemp, 24, was denied bail in an Australian court after being charged over the horror smash that left 51-year-old Thanh Phan with fatal head injuries last Saturday. 5 The psychology graduate from Redditch, Worcestershire, is accused of striking Phan from behind while speeding down a footpath in Perth with a friend on board as a passenger. The Brit had also been drinking for six hours before the crash, reports The Sydney Morning Herald. A neighbour in Redditch revealed that her parents had flown to Australia on Tuesday to be with their daughter, according to The Times. Prosecutors said Kemp had a blood alcohol content of 0.158 when she 'careered into his back' at up to 25km/h as the dad stood at a crossing on Saturday night. The court heard walkers had to 'take evasive action' to avoid Kemp's 'inexplicably dangerous' riding, which was captured on CCTV. Her 26-year-old passenger also suffered a fractured skull and broken nose. Kemp, who was in Australia on a four-month tourist visa with her partner, had been working at Durty Nelly's Irish Pub in Perth. She had been drinking with a friend from 2.30pm - who was kicked out of a bar for being too drunk - before they hired the e-scooter just before 8.30pm. Her bail bid was rejected after a magistrate ruled she posed too great a flight risk. 'It's a very difficult decision for the court to make,' the magistrate said. Brit tourist, 18, reported missing for days in Thailand is arrested on 'drug offences' in Georgia 4,000 miles away 'The temptation might be that [she] won't return… I can't manage that risk.' Phan's devastated family described him as a 'beloved husband, father of two, brother, and dear friend', and are now calling for a crackdown on e-scooter safety laws. 'We also call for a review of the governance and safety regulations surrounding hired e-scooters to help prevent further serious incidents that put lives at risk,' they said in a statement. In a statement released through police, Phan's grieving family pleaded for privacy and called on authorities to tighten e-scooter hire regulations. 'We also call for a review of the governance and safety regulations surrounding hired e-scooters to help prevent further serious incidents that put lives at risk,' they said. Kemp remains in custody on remand and is due back in court on July 15. Police prosecutors argued that Kemp's status as a foreign tourist working in Perth made her a flight risk, and highlighted the severity of her charges. Western Australian police have confirmed they will continue to investigate whether any additional offences, including possible public nuisance charges, could be laid against Kemp. 5

EXCLUSIVE Murderer who killed his own stepmother and raped and fathered child with 14-year-old girl after spiking her drink dies in prison
A murderer who killed his own stepmother and raped and fathered a child with a 14-year-old girl has died in prison. Mohammed Fethaullah, 64, previously of Wandsworth, London, died at HMP High Down on May 13 this year. He was jailed for life in 2002 after being convicted of kidnapping and murdering Yasmin Akhtar, 35, who was in the process of divorcing Fethaullah's father at the time. With three other men, Fethaullah took Ms Akhtar from her property in Redhill to a shop on Old Kent Road, where she was strangled with black tape. Her body was then wrapped in a carpet before petrol was poured over her face and she was set ablaze in Larkhall Park, Clapham. The Old Bailey heard during Fethaullah's murder trial that Ms Akhtar had been asking her then-66-year-old husband for a £250,000 divorce settlement - which was said to have threatened Fethaullah's inheritance prospects. All four men were sentenced to life imprisonment. During Fethaullah's life sentence it then came to light that he had raped and impregnated a 14-year-old girl in 1999, several years before he killed his stepmother. A police statement said the victim had been waiting to collect her wages from Fethaullah's shop in Brixton, where she worked, when he asked her to collect some cigarettes from the front of the shop. After returning the girl finished a drink she had left on the office desk, before almost immediately collapsing. She believed Fethaullah had spiked her. Drifting in and out of consciousness, she then woke up to find Fethaullah raping her in the back seat of a car after he had driven it to a secluded location. Fethaullah believed the girl was not aware of what had happened and afterwards drove her home. But the victim found out she was pregnant a short time later, and decided to raise the child despite knowing there was a chance it could be the product of rape. A DNA test in 2016 proved Fethaullah was the father and she took this evidence to police. Fethaullah was convicted of rape in 2019 after a two-year investigation, and he was sentenced to a further 16 years in prison.

Squatters filmed watching television in man's home while news crew interview him
A family of squatters was filmed living in a retiree's home in Australia while he was interviewed by A Current Affair about the situation. The squatters had been residing in the house for a year after one of them initially booked the property via a listing. The initial squatter then invited his family to join him while the homeowner, Adrian, was away caring for his dying mother. The news crew from A Current Affair criticised the squatters' 'audacity' as they had installed curtains to create makeshift bedrooms. The squatters refused to leave the premises even while the news cameras were recording.
