$1M lotto prize won in Mass. from $10 game — but winner's name not released. Here's why
A Massachusetts lottery player won $1 million from a $10 ticket — but won't be releasing their name to the public. The $1 million prize was from '$4,000,000 Bonus Money,' a $10 scratch ticket game released on Sept. 10, 2024. There are still six $1 million prizes and two $4 million prizes remaining to be claimed in the game as of June 6. The winning ticket was sold in Springfield at a Nouria located at 1313 Boston Rd. The shop will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The $1 million prize was claimed for the winner by MK Miraculous Nominee Trust of Springfield on Thursday. The trust, represented by trustee Thomas Bessette, chose to receive the prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. Massachusetts isn't one of the states that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous. But it can still happen. The Massachusetts Lottery allows winners to create a trust, in which a trustee is able to turn in the winning ticket, receive the check and then deposit it into a bank account set up for the beneficiary. 'Prizes can be claimed by a trust or other legal entities that fulfill the definition of a legal person,' Mark William Bracken, Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery told MassLive. 'The identity of the trustee or legal representative is made public. Over the last several years, we have seen an increase in the number of large prizes claimed by trusts.' Mass.
