Best last minute gifts for dad this Father's Day

Daily Mirror6 hours ago

Father's Day is almost here, literally a week today, and with it comes the annual sense of panic that maybe we should have gotten something earlier. I've been quizzing my siblings on what would be the best thing to buy for our dad and been getting lots of not so subtle suggestions of things that they want for themselves.
So I spread the net a little wider and decided it was time to look a little closer at what I think my dad might like other than a card and box of chocolates that the rest of us will no doubt eat ourselves. It can be a challenge thinking of something that hasn't been done before.
Butlins revamp major holiday park with 'top quality' attractions and prices at £69
Tassimo coffee machines slashed to less than £40 in summer sale
If dad is a foodie there are plenty of gadgets and goodies that can elevate life in the kitchen, from high-tech app-controlled meat thermometers perfect for upping your barbecue game through to a surprisingly budget friendly Ninja device to take the hassle out of chopping.
For something a bit more unusual, why not zhuzh up the essentials? I was lucky enough to head out to France earlier this year to see behind the scenes of Peugeot's new salt mill mechanism - I even put together my own pepper mill. As a result my dad has been dropping constant hints that his kitchen is missing something special. There are so many options available but I think the Paris mills are the best.
They've recently been released in a few gorgeous green shades, which I think makes them a great option for dads with a green thumb, but there's a massive range of colours. Notably the mills mechanism comes with a lifetime guarantee, so it's truly a gift that will last. Peugeot homewares also has a huge range of kitchen accessories from tart dishes and tagines to barware, typically all available in the same colour, so it's an easy way to have a matching and linked gift for birthdays and Christmases to come.
Paris mills are available from £31.99 although the price is impacted by the height.
It's a classic for a reason, there's something nice about dads looking at their children's faces when they make their morning brew. While there are plenty of generic mugs in the supermarket, Moonpig offers mugs for £11.99 with the opportunity to add your own pictures. Quite a few even offer five pictures alongside a sweet message so it's a great opportunity to get in siblings too.
Emma Bridgewater also offers personalised mugs, from £19, but they're hand painted which means that there will be a name or initials rather than a printed image. For those who like the hand painted touch but want something more personal Pott'd Paintables Paint-a-Mug Kit is available on Amazon. It's £29 for a single mug or £34 for two, it could be a cute activity with dad or a fun surprise on the day.
My dad has told me out right how cool he thinks the driving experience days look. Virgin has a massive range of them available up and down the country with prices from £25. It's important to read the small print though as some are only allowed on certain days
Whether it's drivign an American Big Rig Truck (£148), a Lamborghini (£182.50) or simply classic cars (£25) there's quite a big variety of options. It's not just driving days though, there are stadium tours, cocktail masterclasses and more. What's more, if you are working on the really last minute you can get a virtual voucher so you don't even have to worry about how long it takes to get delivered.
Whether it's a bottle of rum, whisky or a nice bottle of wine, booze tends to always go down a treat as a present. My dad prefers rum so I'll be reaching for a bottle of my favourite Project #173 Butterscotch Rum, which is currently £20.95 on Master of Malt, but there's a lot of other flavour options. At 42% it's on the strong side but great for sipping neat. It could also be a good idea to get drinking glasses to elevate the experience.
For those who don't like darker liquors, Smirnoff recently came out with Miami Peach flavoured vodka which is available in premixed cans with lemonade as well as a 70cl bottle for £18.49. Inspired by the Miami beach lifestyle this peach vodka is ideal for garden parties and is even said to be delicious in a peach mojito.
It's important to note that alcohol should be drunk responsibly.
Candles can change the atmosphere of an entire room and while they might more often be first thoughts for Mother's Day, there's no reason dads can't also enjoy. WoodWick Renew Tomato Leaf & Basil is a great option, and currently £20.62 on Amazon. Terra Haze is also a new scent from the Woodwick Candles range at Yankee Candle. It's currently reduced to £24.74 at Boots and aims to replicate the scent of 'nature being stripped down to its molecules'. The candle has a natural scent that fills a room without being overpowering and the crackling wick adds a touch of ambiance that can't be denied.
Bath and Body Works Mahogany Teakwood High Intensity (£32.99), is often described as 'smelling like a man' with woody notes and a touch of frosted lavender. It could be a nice option for dads who are looking for a relaxing moment to themselves.

Top 10 fastest-selling used cars last month with bargain hatchback topping the list… and a shock runner-up

THE top 10 fastest-selling motors last month have been revealed - and the car ranked in second place is somewhat surprising. Data from Motors shared this week showed that used examples of the evergreen Vauxhall Corsa were the quickest out of the door of dealerships across the country in May. 2 On average, a Corsa that's roughly six months to a year old stood on a forecourt for just 8.6 days before it was snapped up. The much-loved hatchback, which, on average costs between £11,000 and £14,000 second-hand, was followed, perhaps surprisingly, by the Ford Explorer in second place. Nearly-new examples of the pure-electric family SUV sold after 11.6 days on average - which the experts at Motors believing the Explorer's popularity was down to its 'keen pricing'. Still, the Explorer's place on the list is by far the most eye-catching, compared to others. The full top-10 list can be found below. Fastest selling used cars in the UK in May 1 - Vauxhall Corsa Age: 6 Months to 1 Year Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: Less than 5k Miles Average Days to Sell: 8.6 2 - Ford Explorer Age: Less than 6 Months Fuel Type: Electric Mileage: Less than 5k Miles Average Days to Sell: 11.6 3 - MG HS Age: 1 Year to 2 Years Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: 10k Miles to 20k Miles Average Days to Sell: 11.7 4 - Seat Ateca Age: Less than 6 Months Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: Less than 5k Miles Average Days to Sell: 13.1 5 - Peugeot 2008 Age: Less than 6 Months Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: Less than 5k Miles Average Days to Sell: 13.2 6 - Toyota Yaris Age: 2 Years to 3 Years Fuel Type: Hybrid Mileage: 10k Miles to 20k Miles Average Days to Sell: 14.7 7 - MG HS Age: 1 Year to 2 Years Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: 5k Miles to 10k Miles Average Days to Sell: 14.8 8 - Vauxhall Corsa Age: 3 Years to 4 Years Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: 20k Miles to 30k Miles Average Days to Sell: 16.0 9 - Peugeot 208 Age: Less than 6 Months Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: Less than 5k Miles Average Days to Sell: 16.2 10 - Nissan Qashqai Age: 3 Years to 4 Years Fuel Type: Petrol Mileage: 10k Miles to 20k Miles Average Days to Sell: 17.9 Motors also revealed that dealer inventories averaged 52 units during May with the average price of a used car on their platform at £17,197. Overall, dealers were forced to trim their prices to get stock off of their forecourts. Commenting on the data for May, Motors marketing director Lucy Tugby told Car Dealer Mag: 'Other nearly new cars in our Top 10 include the Seat Ateca, Peugeot 2008 and Peugeot 208, suggesting competitive pricing as dealers moved to clear their stocks to avoid competing with promotions on new cars. 'The fast sales were achieved despite our May Market View analysis tracking a monthly increase in days to sell from 29.3 to 30.3.' OUT WITH THE OLD We're almost at the halfway point of 2025 in what's been a whirlwind six months or so in the motoring world. Ford puma E The UK is in the midst of a transition to electric vehicles which comes with new regulations and economic pressures, while the industry continues to adapt to changing consumer behaviour. Elsewhere, the Ford Puma remains the nation's favourite motor while Tesla's favouritism begins to dip, and Nissan's problems are going from bad to worse. We've also had some exciting car releases, from the Alpine A290 hot hatchback and Dacia Bigster SUV, through to the outrageous Aston Martin Valhalla. We've also learned of the demise of some of our favourite models - ready to drive off into the sunset. Here are some of the biggest nameplates reaching the end of their production runs that have been announced this year.

Major car brand ‘plotting return' of discontinued model that starred in iconic James Bond scene 46 years ago

A MAJOR brand could bring back a discontinued model which appeared in an iconic James Bond scene. Citroen is biding its time over whether to bring back the iconic retro 2CV. It earned its stripes as a French economy car and is recognised for revitalising post-war France. 4 4 The 2CV was nicknamed Deux Chevaux, translating to "two horses" referring to its tax horsepower rating. The 2CV featured in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only in a scene where Bond jumps into the passenger seat of co-star Melina Havelock's yellow car, heading off the twisty mountain roads, while Hector Gonzalez's men give chase in a pair of Peugeot 504 sedans. Bond eventually takes the wheel and the car enjoys a bone-rattling climax that sees it hurtling through olive trees. He then crisscrosses the road, before jumping over a pursuing Peugeot and bumping its offside-rear wheel on the sedan's roof. The scene was filmed in Corfu over 12 days and the car was one of several 2CVs used in the filming. While four are known to have survived filming, at least two were scrapped when production ended. 'We have a very, very strong heritage, one of the richest in the car industry,' then-Citroen boss Thierry Koskas told Auto Express. 'We have the 2CV, the Traction Avant, the DS: amazing cars known all over the world. "I absolutely agree that one of the big strengths of European brands is their heritage. The first-ever all-electric MINI JCW Aceman 'On the product side, we are not taking it as a general direction to do retro design. "But I do not exclude that maybe we study and [have] some exploration, we are open to look at that. "But at Citroen you will not see all the future cars reminding you of previous models. 'You will have people that value a design that is close to a car they used to love in the past. This is the debate. 'But there have been successes and failures in [automotive] revivals. "Some fail because [companies] don't position the car properly, they seem retro but aren't really, or customers don't really like the car or recognise their love story. "So if we were to do it, we would have to be very, very careful and cautious about how we did it.' 4 4
