uniform at the Indian Military Academy on Saturday. The occasion marked a milestone for

Air Commodore Vasant Navad, currently serving at the Integrated Defence Staff in Delhi, as he watched his younger son, Anmol Navad, join the ranks of the Indian Army as a commissioned officer.
Adding to the joy, Anmol's elder brother, Aryan Navad, an officer (naval aviator) in the
Indian Navy
, stood proudly beside him, celebrating the continuation of a family legacy dedicated to national service in all three wings of India's armed forces - Army, Navy and Air Force.
"These two individuals constantly inspired me to do something meaningful for the nation - something unique and challenging," said newly commissioned Lieutenant Anmol Navad.
"My father is my source of inspiration, and my brother remains a rock-solid guiding pillar. Defence is where I truly belong."
Asked about the unique roles each member of his family will play in safeguarding the nation, Air Commodore Vasant Navad emphasised the critical coordination required among the three armed services to achieve victory, similar to the one during
Operation Sindoor
.
"Modern warfare has evolved into a multi-domain operation - whether it's space, cyber or psychological warfare, success now hinges on superior information and strategic integration," he said.

All set to join the Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army, Anmol shared his passion for squash and running - the latter, he said, gives him a true adrenaline rush. "Running pushes you beyond your limits, and that's where the sense of achievement lies. It was one of the reasons I was drawn to the National Defence Academy."
Reflecting on his time at the IMA, he recalled the Bhadraj camp in the Mussoorie hills as one of the most challenging parts of his training. Anmol's maternal grandfather, a decorated officer in the Territorial Army and recipient of the President's Medal, also embodied the family's legacy of service.

Dehradun/Jaipur: Among the seven killed in the helicopter crash near Gaurikund on the Kedarnath route on Sunday was the pilot, 37-year-old Lt Colonel (Retd) Rajveer Singh Chouhan from Jaipur. After serving in the Indian Army for over 15 years since 2009, Chouhan had begun his career in civil aviation just eight months ago, joining Aryan Aviation Private Limited, the operator of the ill-fated chopper, in Oct 2024. He was scheduled to return home soon to his wife, a Lt Colonel in the Army, to celebrate the birth of their twins, born a few months ago. As his father, Govind Singh, prepared for the celebrations, the family received the devastating news that Chouhan's helicopter had crashed around 5.30 am shortly after take-off. "He had just started the next chapter of his life," said a family friend. "The twins brought so much joy. Preparations were on for a traditional ceremony at home. No one imagined something so horrific would happen." With over 2,000 hours of flying experience, Chouhan had served in both the Regiment of Artillery and the Army Aviation Corps. Last year, he completed a full-time general management programme for defence officers in business administration and management from FMS Delhi. Since joining Aryan Aviation, he had been flying the Bell 407 helicopter. As news of his death came, relatives and friends gathered at his Jaipur home to mourn the loss of the former officer who was described as calm, tenacious and deeply committed to his duty. "He was a determined and courageous officer but always wore a gentle smile," said a former colleague. "Even in the most stressful situations, Rajveer remained composed and motivated everyone around him." His family left for Uttarakhand on Sunday evening to bring back his body. Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his condolences over the tragedy and said, "The loss of a brave pilot from Rajasthan and other devotees in the Kedarnath helicopter crash is deeply saddening. May Lord Kedarnath give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families." Preliminary reports suggest that adverse weather may have contributed to the crash. Officials said the helicopter likely ran into dense fog and poor visibility in the narrow Himalayan valley. NGO plants saplings in memory of plane crash victims
Madurai: As a tribute to the victims of the tragic Air India flight crash that occurred in Ahmedabad, Paravai Foundation, a Madurai-based NGO, planted 270 saplings around the Kodikulam tank near Surya Nagar on Sunday. The initiative aims to serve as a living memorial for the lives lost in the accident. "Each sapling symbolises a life, and the drive is our humble tribute to the memory of the victims," said Cholan Kubendran, the NGO's founder. The foundation has been involved in environmental initiatives, particularly tree planting drives across schools and public spaces in Madurai district. For this initiative, native species suitable for the tank ecosystem were selected to ensure long-term ecological sustainability. Volunteers, school students, and residents participated in the planting drive. The foundation also plans to ensure maintenance of the saplings including watering and fencing, in collaboration with the local community.
