Alexander-Arnold bids final Liverpool farewell with emotional 15-word message

Daily Mirror29-05-2025

Trent Alexander-Arnold's time at Liverpool has come to an end following the victory celebrations earlier this week and the Real Madrid-bound star has paid tribute to the club and the city
Trent Alexander-Arnold said he had the "perfect send off" as his time with Liverpool came to an end following the expiry of his contract. The right-back has spent his entire career at Anfield, but will now move on.
Alexander-Arnold's future, along with those of captain Virgil van Dijk and top scorer Mo Salah, has dominated the headlines for months and he eventually became the only one of the three in red not to have signed a new deal. The Englishman eventually communicated a desire to pursue a new challenge - which is believed to be with Real Madrid.

The move has not yet happened with the right-back wanting to focus on his football. He leaves Anfield a Premier League champion for the second time and bid an emotional farewell to his home supporters on the final day of the season.

Alexander-Arnold was in tears at the full-time whistle but later hoisted the trophy aloft in front of the Kop. He was then involved in a victory parade on Monday as thousands lined the streets.
Now the dust has settled and the 26-year-old has made his feelings clear on social media: "Perfect send off. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I love my city."
Alexander-Arnold has been keen to underline his love for the city, the club and the fans amid a mixed reaction to his exit news. Several fans have aired their frustration with some booing him when he came off the bench against Arsenal earlier this month.

He was widely cheered on his farewell appearance against Crystal Palace however and Arne Slot was pleased to see the defender enjoy such a reception. 'He deserved it. I am very happy for him and everyone in and around the club that things worked out the way they did," said the Dutchman.
'It went brilliant when our fans are together. How brilliant they were before the Tottenham game, during the Tottenham game and afterwards I don't think you see as many special celebrations as you saw four weeks ago.
'I don't think you see many celebrations like we had them today. It's no surprise to me that they (the fans) were brilliant again today as they were throughout the whole season, as they were towards Trent.

‘Best boss I ever had' – Cristiano Ronaldo's former bodyguard reveals risks of protecting star and how much he was paid

CRISTIANO RONALDO's former bodyguard has revealed the eye-watering sum he was paid to protect the footie icon. Hichman Bukhari was part of CR7's security detail for four years when the Portugal star plied his trade with Real Madrid. 3 3 3 The private military contractor (PMC) and close protection operative (CPO) was by Ronaldo's side every time he stepped out in the Spanish capital or jetted to a luxurious location. Bukhari attended some high-profile events during his watch of Ronaldo, which earned him a whopping £850 a day. That equated to a whopping £4,250 for a five-day week and £21,250 per month. His annual salary for a five-day week worked out to be a cool £255,000. Despite having to fend off scores of adoring footie fans, paparazzi galore and the occasional thief, Bukhari insists working with Ronaldo was a breeze. During an appearance on Telecinco, he said: 'Our work depends on the client's profile. 'In the case of Cristiano, with whom I worked for four years, his profile wasn't high-risk because people didn't want to kill him, and he didn't receive death threats. "He was threatened by fans or people who wanted to rob him. Reynolds and McElhenney 'ready to sell their stake' as Wrexham's value soars

Wrexham are gearing up for a season in the Championship and co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are looking to bring extra investment into the Welsh club Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are said to be willing to sell a stake in Wrexham following their promotion to the Championship. Wrexham have enjoyed a remarkable rise since they were bought by Reynolds and McElhenney back in 2021 for around £2million. The club has been promoted three times in four full seasons under the two Hollywood stars, rising from the National League to the Championship; now they are looking to raise additional funds in a bid to help Wrexham go one step further and reach the Premier League. ‌ According to a report from Bloomberg, Reynolds and McElhenney are considering selling a stake in the club for a valuation of up to £350m. Earlier this year, the Allyn family became minority investors, with Wrexham valued at around £100m. ‌ However, the club's profile has risen further following their recent promotion and the report states that Wrexham are now working investment bank advisers to gauge potential interest. A £350m valuation would make Wrexham the most expensive team in Championship, with Sheffield United recently bought for around £111m by an American consortium. Speaking after Wrexham secured promotion from League One, Reynolds reiterated their ambition as he told Sky Sports: "Four years ago, this man [McElhenney] said our goal is to make it to the Premier League. And there was understandably a lot of titters, laughter and giggles - but it's starting to feel like a tangible thing that could actually come to fruition." Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson, meanwhile, is confident the club are ready to make the "huge" step up from League One to the Championship. "I think everybody knows the jump is huge," Parkinson said. "But I'm confident we will be well prepared for that. I think that a lot of tough decisions will be made this summer, in terms of who we bring in and how we add to this fantastic squad of lads we've got, but let's see if we can build a squad to compete at that level. "I think it's interesting because the jump in salaries is incredible, mind-blowing. Even coming up to this level [League One], the jump to get players of Championship quality is expensive but obviously with the next level, I don't think people outside football quite realise. ‌ "They think players in League One must be multi-millionaires, but the drop-off from what people read about Premier League players when they come down is huge. "That is a challenge, but what we've always tried to do is make sure the culture in the club is right and I think that's key - no superstars, no egos in the dressing room and we've got to try and get that balance right again. "You always need extra quality when you go up a level to make sure the right people come into the building." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. 'Nothing would tempt me to sell him'

We asked for your views on Jarrad Branthwaite and his future at Everton, after one supporter described him as "priceless" to the club and a "generational talent".Here are some of your comments:George: Give him a long-term contract that rewards him now and gives him progressive incentives to stay. Monetary and status (club captain?). Make him want to stay. The grass is not always greener elsewhere!Dave: Yes, I completely agree that he must stay at Everton. He is beyond doubt an excellent centre-half and will only keep on improving as years progress. Give him all the encouragement he needs to stay at a club that is on the Branthwaite is the best young centre-back in the world! Tall, strong, quick, good passing ability, everything you need. Just needs to improve his leadership, but that will come with age. Nothing would tempt me to sell him, as you cannot replace him. If the club were to sell, the figure at least has to be £100m starting point. He would be a steal at £150m!David: I hope Jarrad can give us one more season. Then take stock and see if we are progressing. If an offer he or we can't refuse, then fine. Part ways on good terms. But if we overachieve and we are in Europe, then just maybe he will Branthwaite is a really talented defender, but as a Blue, he's not irreplaceable. Remember John Stones? Another generational talent lost less than a generation ago for a quite tidy sum of money. I hope we keep him, but if we don't, it's not the end of the world. We need equally talented players higher up the pitch more, and could plug in Keane in defence and still do OK. Mike: I would like Branthwaite to spend his career with us, but that's not going to happen. He's better than Stones, and he went for £50m years ago. Chelsea paid £75m for Fofana, that's a starting bid. Branthwaite has not been trying to force a move. He seems to be a decent lad. He has a couple of years left on his contract. Hopefully someone will offer stupid money, which would help further stabilise to club.
