City of Killeen mourning loss of fire captain
KILLEEN, Texas (FOX 44) – The City of Killeen is mourning the loss of Fire Captain Marvin Taylor III.
Killeen Fire Chief James Kubinski has released a video statement regarding Capt. Taylor's passing. You can view his statement below.
City of Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King has also issued a statement in the aftermath of Capt. Taylor's death. She says she is offering her prayers, support and condolences to Taylor's family, as well as his fellow comrades at the Fire Department. She says Capt. Taylor showcased dedication, selflessness and courage daily and will be greatly missed.
In remembrance and honor Capt. Taylor, the Killeen City Flag was lowered at 8 a.m. Monday, and will remain lowered through 8 a.m. on the day following Taylor's interment, which has not yet been provided publicly.
The Killeen Fire Department will be escorting Capt. Taylor's body from Austin to the Temple mortuary services today at 3 p.m. Residents may see a motorcade of different emergency agencies heading down Interstate 35 to Temple around this time.

Capt. Taylor passed away in a car accident on Sunday morning. He had just welcomed his fifth child at an Austin Hospital and was on route to pick up his other children when he was struck from behind by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.
The city says Capt. Taylor had been serving the Killeen Fire Department since 2014, and was recently assigned to the Training Division. He is known for his countless deployments with Texas A&M Task Force 1 and TIFMAS.

NICETOWN - After a huge fire broke out at SEPTA's largest bus depot in Nicetown on Thursday, officials have determined a cause for the fire. What we know A spokesperson for SEPTA stated that the Philadelphia Fire Department said a battery in one of the electric buses set off the massive fire Thursday at their largest bus depot, in Philly's Nicetown neighborhood. Residents living near the bus depot were urged to stay indoors while firefighters fought the blaze, due to air quality concerns. Philly's Health Department gave the all-clear for air quality on Friday. The backstory Firefighters were called to the Midvale SEPTA Bus Depot around 6 a.m. after employees reported a fire in the decommissioned bus lot. Investigators said the fire reached 3-alarms and torched about 40 buses, many that haven't been used in years, including former electric buses. SEPTA General Manager Scott Sauer said the lot is used to store 100 buses that have been or are in the process of being decommissioned. He provided some insight into the decommission process, saying the buses' batteries are disconnected, and the mechanical fluid is drained. 16 of the burned buses are electric, made by the Proterra Company. SEPTA is battling in court in part over an earlier fire. SEPTA said the nine remaining electric buses at the depot are going away. Big picture view Meanwhile, the Health Dept. said the fire caused a rise in the amount of particulate matter, both PM 2.5 and PM 10, and released benzene, ethylbenzene, and carbon monoxide into the air. The levels of those pollutants were recorded at their highest point in the early morning on Thursday, June 5, while the fire was still burning. Those levels were reduced once the fire was brought under control, though residents were not advised to resume normal activities until Friday afternoon. No other details were released about the battery.

Two pets rescued from house fire in East Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A call went out around 5 p.m. Friday, June 7, reporting a fire in the 100 block of West Ellis Street, off North Center Street in the Village of East Syracuse. Firefighters rescued two pets from inside the home. The fire chief said no one was hurt, and the fire started in the kitchen of a first floor apartment. National Donut Day was started in 1938 by Chicago's Salvation Army in order to honor the Donut Lassies that began serving during World War One. 'They served the men on the front line that were nervous, are scared about their days, and they brought them rations and spiritual advice,' Salvation Army Volunteer Special Events and PR Coordinator Sarah Femister said. 'Then by the end of it, there was nothing left but to make donuts. And they even fried them in the helmets, or anything they could find.' The reason behind using donuts was because they were cheap and a common comfort food. 'It was something sweet that could remind the men of home and hope and everything was going to be all right,' Femister said This year, donut shops are making sweet deals for National Donut Day. 'We released two new seasonal flavors – is going to be our Fruity Pebbles and our Lemonade,' Nightlight Donuts and Coffee General Manager Patricia Sidbury said. 'It's been pretty popular today, and we're offering 20 percent off of all donuts today, as well.' 'Everybody gets a free donut today, and with a free beverage,' Dunkin employees Amya Harper and Kimberly Starts said. The Salvation Army partnered up with local donut stores for National Donut Day to make everyone's day a little sweeter. 'This year we were lucky enough to partner with H-E-B here in town….and a few of our Shipley's to help us get donuts and donut holes to all of our first responders and community partners around Waco,' Feimster said.
