Speaking to local station WXYZ-TV, Michael Chambers, the commander of the Detroit Police Department's 11th Precinct, said: "At approximately 4:30 this morning, a Black male in his late 60s came into the 11th Precinct on Nevada and stated he had killed his wife with a sword. He was detained at the precinct, and two scout cars were dispatched out to an address on Conley, just south of 7 Mile.
"When they arrived at the location, they found a door unsecured. They made entry and went to an upstairs bedroom, where they found the deceased."
The department has not released additional details regarding the identities of the man and woman involved.
When asked whom people with information on the case should call, Chambers said: "The individual is in custody. However, if there's other information involving this fatal assault, they should contact our homicide section."
Earlier this year, Detroit reported that it "ended 2024 with 203 criminal homicides, down 19 percent from last year's 57-year low and down 33 percent since 2022," thanks to partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
