Will AI Be A Threat To Musicians And Singers? Shankar Mahadevan Answers
Shankar Mahadevan has marked a transformative moment in the music industry by using artificial intelligence (AI) to create a new track titled, Rubaroo. The composition process was showcased virtually at Google's annual I/O developer conference in California, USA.
'We were able to merge a beautiful Sufi melody with a contemporary track. For a musician, it's such an inspiring tool," said the 58-year-old artist, who composed the song in his Mumbai studio using Sandbox, a platform developed in collaboration with YouTube and Google Lab. Watch it here:
While embracing AI in his creative process, the Grammy-winning musician emphasised the difference between support and substitution. 'AI is enhancing technology right now. We should not assume it can replace humans. There's a fear that AI will replace musicians and singers, but there's nothing to worry about. Human intelligence, when combined with AI, can achieve wonders. We just need to use it to our best advantage and responsibly," the Noor E Khuda singer said.
Shankar mentioned that he views AI as more of a 'friend and personal assistant" rather than a standalone creator, noting that it acts as a springboard for musical ideas. He clarified, 'It offers suggestions, like a line or a tune, which the artist can then build upon. Some suggestions are phenomenal and out of this world, while others are very amateurish and basic. The final decision must be made by a human. At the core, you need to be a good musician to use AI to your advantage."
Reflecting on how technology has influenced music through the decades, he remarked, 'Fifty years ago, when synthesizers were introduced or when programming software became prevalent, musicians had the same fear. But we have remained irreplaceable."
He added that AI integration is already happening across various industries, including music. 'It is already being used in every field. We have started utilizing it in our work. It's just a tool. Fifty years ago, when synthesizers were introduced, musicians worried about what would happen to them, but we realized no one can replace live musicians. The same fear occurred with programming software, but nothing happened," he concluded.

YouTube personality and actor Bhuvan Bam has shared a statement after a section of the internet claimed that he underwent surgery. Taking to Reddit, a person shared his new photos with his clean-shaven look and compared them with his old pictures. While some people said that he definitely underwent surgery, a few of them wrote that he made changes to his look. (Also Read | KBC 16: Bhuvan Bam, Kamiya Jani are nervous about Amitabh Bachchan making Reels on Jumma Chumma. Here's why) The post was shared with the caption, "Have Bhuvan Bam undergone any sort of surgery? Plastic Surgery - Doctor gives what God doesn't give you." It also added, "So did he undergo any procedure? He looks very different nowadays. Please don't say it's diet and ageing. Hahaha, don't make us a fool." Reacting to it, a person wrote, "I think something is different with his more square." A comment read, "He looks extremely different!!! Most probably on hair medication, his jawline does look different." "Some hair transplant, some rhinoplasty, something with jawline," commented another person. Another person wrote, "There are definitely changes to the jawline which are not because of diet and exercise. The shape has changed and become more even. Probably fillers, but then again, it's not surgery, so that's smart word play. I wouldn't have recognised him in a million years." A few people didn't agree with the opinion that he underwent surgery. A person said, "Doesn't look like it. Seems like he gained some weight on his cheeks and removed his beard." "Nah! He's just changed his hairstyle. And removed the beard," read a comment. A fan said, "Guys, I feel it's just a general glowup with him taking care of himself more than ever. Don't see a reason why he would go for surgery." "Gained a good amount of muscle, changed the hairstyle, which has given more structure and frame to his face and good grooming, that's about it. PS I liked him better with long hair," commented a fan. After reading the comments, Bhuvan too to the post and dismissed surgery claims, adding that the changes were because of diet and exercise. "Hi doston (friends), Had a great time reading all the comments regarding my surgery (laughing face emoji). I also felt the same after looking at my changed facial structure, as if I had gone under the knife. But it's just 60 minutes of cardio and one hour of strength training supported by a strict diet. It does wonders, trust me." Bhuvan shared a post featuring his old picture, and people's appearance changes with time. "Also, the second photo is almost a decade old. So, naturally, people's appearance changes. A few weeks ago, I underwent a lip surgery because of a painful boil, also known as 'mucocele'. It had to be removed because I've been prepping up for a show and had to be in a certain look. But thank you for your opinions which are just 'andhere mein lath ghumaana (doing guess work)' (laughing face emoji). Take care all. Lots of Love. Bhuvan rose to fame by playing fictionalised characters. He posted the videos on his YouTube channel, BB Ki Vines. In 2021, he released the web series Dhindora on YouTube. In January 2023, he made his OTT debut with Taaza Khabar. He was also seen in Amazon miniTV's Rafta Rafta opposite Srishti Rindani.

Google taps top Obama Supreme Court lawyer for search antitrust appeal
Alphabet's Google has hired Donald Verrilli Jr, the U.S. solicitor general during the Barack Obama administration, to appeal a judge's ruling that the tech titan has an unlawful monopoly in online search, Google confirmed on Tuesday. Verrilli's hire is a key first step in Google's legal fight to undo the ruling, which it has said could pose a threat to its business. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta last year ruled Google holds an unlawful monopoly in online search and related advertising, and is considering proposals to make the tech titan sell off its popular Chrome browser, or share data that CEO Sundar Pichai says would allow competitors reverse engineer its search engine. Google has argued the DOJ failed to prove that competition was harmed by its exclusive agreements with device makers such as Apple to preload Google as the default search engine on new devices. The company has recently begun loosening its agreements to allow partners including Samsung to load rival apps. Verrilli, who as solicitor general was the Obama White House's top Supreme Court advocate, is known for his work successfully defending the Democratic president's signature domestic healthcare law. He will represent Google in its planned appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where Democratic-appointed judges outnumber Republican ones 9 to 6. Verrilli is separately the lead lawyer for law firm Susman Godfrey in its lawsuit against the Trump administration over an executive order that restricted its business. A judge in April blocked key provisions of the order. Verrilli is representing hundreds of other firms that filed a court brief denouncing Republican President Donald Trump's attacks on prominent law firms. He is also representing U.S. Copyright Office Director Shira Perlmutter in a lawsuit challenging her firing, and the National Endowment for Democracy in a case accusing the Trump administration of illegally withholding funds. Verrilli's firm Munger Tolles has represented Google in other lawsuits. The firm, whose founders include the late Charlie Munger, has counted Berkshire Hathaway and Bank of America as some of its other clients.
