Former Wisconsin Badger receives middling grade in PFF's 2025 NFL tight end ranking

Former Wisconsin Badger receives middling grade in PFF's 2025 NFL tight end ranking Former Wisconsin Badger and current Dallas Cowboy Jake Ferguson landed at No. 17 in ProFootballFocus' recent list of the NFL's top tight ends entering 2025. Ferguson, whose 145 career receptions rank second all-time among Badger tight ends, earned a Pro Bowl appearance in 2023. In three seasons with Dallas, Ferguson has reeled in 149 receptions for 1,429 yards and seven touchdowns. Sandwiched between New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry (No. 16) and Green Bay Packers pass-catcher Tucker Craft (No. 18), Ferguson dropped five spots from last year's preseason ranking. The Rapid City, Wisconsin, native did miss three games in 2024, starting in all 14 of his appearances. In those 14 contests, the Wisconsin product snagged 59 receptions for 494 yards as Dallas' No. 2 passing option behind superstar CeeDee Lamb. That output followed a career-best 71-reception, 761-yard, five-touchdown performance in 2023, the year he made the Pro Bowl. While Ferguson's productivity certainly declined, he remains a staple asset in the Cowboys' offensive system. Here's PFF's take: "Ferguson looked like a tight end on the cusp of cracking the top 10 a year ago before the Cowboys' struggles and injuries caused the decline in production and grading for the third-year Wisconsin Badger. While Ferguson should enjoy a bounce-back 2025 campaign, his 56.6 PFF receiving grade and four fumbles in 2024 are worrisome for his outlook." With the Badgers, Ferguson snared a pass in every game he suited up in and set the school record for most consecutive games with a reception with 47. His 1,618 career receiving yards also land at No. 3 all-time among tight ends to play for Wisconsin. Ferguson will begin his search for a bounce-back season on Sept. 4 when the Cowboys open their season against the Philadelphia Eagles. 3 former Cowboys with troubled pasts arrested within 72 hours of each other

3 former Cowboys with troubled pasts arrested within 72 hours of each other The Dallas Cowboys have never been strangers with the red flag industry. Ever since their dominance of the 1990s, they've served as the poster franchise for taking risks on players with questionable pasts. Some times it works out, other times it doesn't, but since Jerry Jones has been owner of the club, they're well known to give second and third chances. Three of the most recent second-chance players all found themselves in booking photos over a 72-hour period. On Thursday, it was reported that Greg Hardy, signed in 2015 after a domestic violence arrest, had been arrested on Wednesday afternoon or alleging assaulting a family member. In the early hours of Saturday, Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Also in the early hours of Saturday, recent second-round pick Kelvin Joseph was arrested after being involved in a fatal car crash. While some have tried to paint the NFL in a bad light when it comes to arrests, the reality is they have a lower arrest rate (2.5 k per 100,000) than the general public (4k per 100,000) does. It's only that every arrest of an NFL player makes headlines. And while it may seem like the Cowboys have a greater share of NFL arrests than other clubs, that's more than likely because their reputation precedes them. Hardy, most famously, signed a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the Cowboys after his 2014 arrest led to his release from the Carolina Panthers. He did not get along well, consistently missing meetings and clashing with the coaching staff and fellow players. No team signed him after that and he eventually turned to being an MMA fighter to try and capitalize on his athletic nature. His career lasted from 2018 through 2022, when after losing three straight matches was released from the UFC. Jones signed with Dallas in 2008, after being suspended by the league for 2007 after two seasons in Tennessee. He played just nine games before being suspended, as he was involved in a fight with the bodyguard Dallas assigned to babysit the player. After sitting out 2009, he rejuvenated his career in Cincinnati, playing eight seasons for the Bengals, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and a Pro Bowl the following year. Jones, 41, was booked just before 2 a.m. Saturday into Kenton County jail, according to the court log. He was arrested by the Covington Police Department and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, and assault of a police officer or a probation officer. Jones posted a $10,000 bond and was released around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Other details regarding the arrest were not immediately made available. Saturday's arrest in Covington, which is directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, marks at least the fourth time since 2021 that Jones has been arrested. He has now been booked on a public intoxication charge three years in a row. Joseph, part of the Cowboys' 2021 class that brought them Micah Parsons and Osa Odighizuwa, was traded away before 2023. he had been arrested for his participation in a fight outside a bar that led to a murder. He was drafted following being removed from the LSU team and having to transfer to Kentucky a year before entering the draft.

Cowboys' Pickens vs. Bland dilemma not about cap

Cowboys' Pickens vs. Bland dilemma not about cap originally appeared on Athlon Sports. We'll be a good sport and play the either-or game: George Pickens is the answer. Why? Because of the draft capital the Dallas Cowboys spent to acquire his services. If he walks after this season, then Dallas essentially wasted 75% of the 3rd round rookie contract they gave up — three years of cheap labor, gone. You don't make that trade unless you plan to keep the player. Advertisement So keep the player. But wait. Let's slow down. That's the answer ... but what is the question? It's an online debate about whether the Cowboys can afford to keep both Bland and Pickens as future stars paid within the parameters of the salary cap. And here's the truth: this whole 'Pickens or Bland' debate is built on a flawed premise. You don't have to choose. Not if you manage the cap like a team with a plan. Why? Because "Cap Hell'' is a myth. It's a talking point, not a truth. The salary cap is real tomorrow but fake today. It's not a hard team-building wall — it's an accounting strategy. It can be stretched, manipulated, forecasted with precision, and restructured. Advertisement As our Mike Fisher has been pointing out for years, "It's the same as your household budget. Cash, check, credit card ... generally, you can find ways to afford what you need.'' Yes, the Cowboys will have big numbers on the books come 2026: • Tyler Smith extension looming • Micah Parsons and Osa in Year 1 of their new deals • Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in Year 2 of theirs That's the cost of retaining great players. But that's the bed Dallas made — and they'll have to lay in it. Just don't let them tell you one has to go, because at that point... they're reclining in a bed of lies.
