Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The forest department, which is relocating bees at Ajanta Caves, has requested a temporary closure of the Unesco World Heritage site to facilitate the operation without tourist interference.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has, however, cited procedural issues, stating that the request could not be granted immediately.
A large swarm of bees from a beehive at cave number 4 was relocated on Monday when the heritage site was closed for tourists for weekly maintenance. Deputy conservator of forests Suvarna Mane said the brief closure of Ajanta Caves for tourists would be helpful in relocating the bees from different caves swiftly.
"We made an oral request to ASI to close down the caves for tourists for a brief period, but there has been no response from their side so far. Such a closure is necessary as tourist movements prove a hurdle in relocating bees," she said.
After cave number 4, the forest department and ASI are now focusing on caves 9 and 10, where a larger number of beehives are present.
Shiv Kumar Bhagat, superintending archaeologist for ASI, Aurangabad circle, told TOI that the forest department did not make any written request with regards to the temporary closure of Ajanta Caves for tourists.

"We have to follow rules and seek permission from the central authorities while responding to any such request. If not entire closure, partial closure of the caves for tourists could be considered, subject to approval from the top authorities," he said.
A series of bee attacks on tourists was reported at Ajanta Caves this summer, prompting ASI to seek help from the forest department in relocating bees. Jaswant Singh, founder of the advocacy and resource group Aurangabad Tourism Development Foundation, said ASI would be responsible for any injury or possible death due to bee attacks at Ajanta Caves.
"This is a lean tourist period at Ajanta Caves and there is no harm in closing down the caves for a few days. If executed properly, the ongoing operation would bring a big relief to tourists. The bee attacks in the recent past have tarnished the image of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which is known as the tourism capital of Maharashtra," Singh said.

As Kailash Mansarovar yatra resumes after 5 years, love, adventure & devotion drive pilgrims

GHAZIABAD: Tara Kshatriya always travelled with her husband. This year, the 66-year-old will undertake the most daunting travel of her life, and alone. Among the first batch of travellers to Kailash Mansarovar, the Gujarat resident decided to undertake the pilgrimage — resuming after a pause of five years as India-China relations went through turbulence — in memory of her husband, who passed away in 2020 during Covid. 'We went on every trip together, and Kailash was our shared dream,' she said. The couple has visited Char Dham, Rameshwaram, Vaishno Devi and eight Jyotirlingams together. Also part of the first batch is a couple from Maharashtra, 61-year-old Deviprasad Chandrakant Ketkar and his wife Pradnya. For Deviprasad, a retired aviation engineer and adventure enthusiast who has biked across Ladakh, the Kailash yatra is another high-altitude challenge. Pradnya, however, sees it differently. A devout follower of Shiva, this is the ultimate spiritual journey for her. 'It's the ultimate trek. I have been yearning to visit Tibet for the last 15 years and could never put together enough money for an expedition. This pilgrimage gives me a chance to go to the other side and experience adventure in divinity,' Deviprasad said. A total 750 travellers are to take the yatra in batches of 50 till Aug 25 via two different routes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Ten batches will proceed via the Sikkim route through Nathu La Pass, and five through Uttarakhand's Lipulekh Pass. On Wednesday, marigolds, bhajans and a video montage of previous yatras welcomed the first batch of 50 pilgrims as they arrived at Kailash Mansarovar Bhavan in Indirapuram. After completing the visa paperwork and medical tests over the next four days, the travellers will leave for Gangtok on June 15, by air from the T3 terminal at the IGI Airport. After a journey of 10 days via the Nathu La Pass, they will reach the Kailash Mansarovar base Darchen, following which they will do a 12 km trek via Yamdwar, and another round 19 km trek of the mountain via Dolma La Pass. On day 12, they will be taken via bus to the Mansarovar lake, 80 km away from their halting place at Darchen, the base of Mount Kailash, and on day 13, the group will start their return journey. Pilgrims who are to take the Uttarakhand route will depart for Tanakpur by bus later this month. Over the next week, they will ascend through the Himalayas, reaching Taklakot in Tibet via the high-altitude Lipulekh pass on day 7. By day 9, they arrive at Darchen and begin the circumambulation from Yamdwar on day 10. On Day 12, pilgrims visit the Mansarovar Lake at Qugu. The descent to Taklakot will begin on Day 14. Rajindra Kumar Gupta (68) and his wife Rani (63), who finally began their Kailash yatra, boarding an overnight train from Chitrakoot to reach Ghaziabad, said they have waited to undertake the journey for a decade. 'Since 2020, we were getting anxious, as we are getting older. Now, it feels like I can finally tick it off my life's list,' Rajindra said. Among the youngest pilgrims is 21-year-old gemologist Utkarsh Bhujia from Lucknow, accompanying his mother Megha. 'My father did the yatra in 2017, and ever since, it's been a dream,' Utkarsh said. 'When I asked my son to come with me, he agreed instantly,' Megha added. A 66-year-old astrologer from Jamnagar said he spent years saving for the pilgrimage. 'The energy at Kailash is transformative,' he said. 'I believe it gives you a new life.' The Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan, which was completed in 2020, is being used for the first time to provide accommodation to pilgrims as the complete formalities before the yatra. 'Before this, Delhi govt would rent Gujarat Bhawan for pilgrims,' said Uday Kaushik of Kailash Mansarovar Nishkam Seva Samiti, a voluntary organisation that is helping with arrangements at the Indirapuram facility.

To offer more affordable food to travellers, ‘Udan Yatri Cafe' takes off at Bhopal airport

Bhopal: The 'UDAN Yatri Cafe' commenced operations on Wednesday at Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal. This joint venture between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India (AAI) strives to provide economical, delicious, and high-quality food options to travellers. The UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) programme was initiated to establish air links with regional cities and provide cost-effective, secure air travel for ordinary citizens. While airfares were reduced under this scheme, expensive airport food remained problematic for travellers. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu introduced the 'UDAN Yatri Cafe', first at Kolkata Airport. Currently operating at four airports nationwide, Bhopal marks its fifth location. A female passenger conducted the opening ceremony at Bhopal Airport. The event saw participation from Airport Director Ramji Awasthi, COSB Commandant Atul Bhanotra, airline station managers, and airport staff. "UDAN Yatri Cafe is a public-friendly and socially motivated initiative, which aims to provide a comfortable, accessible, and satisfactory travel experience to the passengers keeping in mind their basic needs," said Director Airport Ramjee Awasthi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Didn't Anyone Tell You About This Power Saver? elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Pre-Order Undo The menu features popular Indian snacks and beverages catering to various travellers. 3 summer special trains giving much relief to migrants from UP, Jharkhand

1 2 3 Chandigarh: Northern Railways has brought major relief to migrant workers and families in the Tricity area by operating three summer special trains. The trains— Chandigarh-Dhanbad Garib Rath, Chandigarh-Patna Garib Rath, and Chandigarh-Gorakhpur-Dibrugarh Express — are running at full capacity, significantly easing travel during the summer rush. The move has boosted direct connectivity from Chandigarh to key cities such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Bareilly, and Dhanbad. Officials say the trains have emerged as a lifeline for hundreds of migrants who otherwise struggled to secure bookings in regular long-distance trains, which were already overbooked well before the start of the vacation season. Senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Naveen Kumar confirmed that the decision to run these summer specials was made in response to rising demand. "Three special trains were sanctioned to cater to the needs of migrants and travellers from the region. These trains are running packed and have brought much-needed relief to passengers," he said. Train number 03311, running from Dhanbad to Chandigarh, operates every Tuesday and Friday. It departs at 11:50 pm and reaches Chandigarh at 4:30 am on the third day. The return service, train number 03312, leaves Chandigarh every Thursday and Sunday at 6 am and reaches Dhanbad at 9 am the following day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Sky Park, Mira Road - 2 & 3 BHK @ ₹1.33 Cr* Sunteck Sky Park Learn More Undo The route passes through major junctions including Varanasi, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad, and Ambala. This Garib Rath train includes 16 third AC coaches. Train numbers 04504/04505, connecting Chandigarh to Patna, are also running as Garib Rath summer specials. The train from Chandigarh leaves every Thursday at 11:35 pm and reaches Patna at 10:10 pm the next day. The return train departs every Friday night from Patna and reaches Chandigarh late the following evening. With halts at Lucknow, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Buxar, and Ara, this service has become an important corridor for passengers from Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Additionally, the Chandigarh-Gorakhpur-Dibrugarh Express (train numbers 15904/15903) departs from Chandigarh every Sunday night at 11:35 pm. It reaches Gorakhpur the next morning and continues onward to Dibrugarh, reaching by the third day. The return train from Dibrugarh runs every Monday morning and arrives in Chandigarh two days later. All three trains have seen high demand since their announcement. Bookings are open both online and at railway ticket counters. Officials have urged passengers to travel responsibly and make early reservations due to limited seat availability. With these services in place, migrants from UP and Jharkhand can now travel home for summer with far less hassle.
