'Kashmir has been our most-booked destination post-COVID. We usually handle 700 to 800 bookings for Jammu and Kashmir annually, and demand peaks in May and June,' said Mr. Murtaja.

This disruption comes at a time when the State was witnessing record-breaking tourist footfall. The Jammu and Kashmir Economic Survey 2024-25 noted a historic high of 2.36 crore visitors in 2024. This figure includes 65,452 foreign tourists, 5.12 lakh pilgrims who undertook the Amarnath Yatra, and 94.56 lakh devotees visiting the Vaishno Devi temple.
Tour operators ask clients with travel dates in May wait
Syed Waseem, managing director of Cloudz Tours and Travels, said the valley had consistently topped domestic travel preferences over the last three years. 'We get around 200 to 300 Kashmir-bound bookings from Hyderabad in just May and June. This attack will certainly affect the flow of tourists. For now, we are asking clients with travel dates in May to wait. But immediate departures are being cancelled,' he said.
The ripple effect is already visible in Hyderabad. The city, which has two direct daily flights to Srinagar operated by IndiGo and Air India Express, has seen a flurry of calls to travel agencies and airlines to cancel booked tickets. In response, both carriers have announced waivers on cancellation charges.
Acknowledging the developing situation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an advisory urging airlines to increase flight frequencies to handle possible shift in demand. The advisory also encourages airlines to be flexible with rescheduling and cancellation policies to support affected passengers.

Dubai resident Manu Palerichal, CEO of CLA Emirates, recounted a stressful experience during his Eid break trip to Nepal. 'As soon as we landed in Nepal on Thursday, an immigration officer informed us that we need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian embassy when returning to the UAE,' he told Khaleej Times. 'No one had informed us about this beforehand… fellow travellers weren't aware either and told us to ignore it,' he said. 'You have to check out in India, collect your luggage and then check back in. So once I arrived in New Delhi, I had to book a new flight back to the UAE,' he said, adding that a friend from Kuwait lost around Dh2,000, while another from Qatar also faced losses in rebooking. Embassy process, required documents, and advice Eventually, Manu returned to Kathmandu with his family and was relieved to find the Indian embassy working through the weekend. Deputy CM to lay foundation for Akhanda Godavari Project foundation
Rajamahendravaram: The foundation of the prestigious Akhanda Godavari Tourism Project aimed at showcasing the historical and cultural magnificence of Godavari region, will be formally held on June 19, announced by State Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh. The ground-breaking ceremony will be jointly performed by Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan and MP Daggubati Purandeswari, with the support of the Central government, he said. The Minister conducted a field visit on Saturday to oversee the arrangements for the upcoming event, inspecting key sites like Pushkar Ghat and theHavelock Bridge alongside district officials. He issued directions to ensure the smooth execution of the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Durgesh said the project is being taken up with a sanction of Rs 97 crore under the SASCI 2024–25 (Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment) scheme. The works will span across Rajamahendravaram, Dowleswaram, Kadiyam, Kovvur, and Nidadavolu, aiming for completion before the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu. He said that the project will significantly transform several locations in East Godavari district, adding new dimensions of beauty and improved tourist amenities. District Collector P Prasanthi stated that the 127-year-old Havelock Bridge, a heritage icon, will undergo beautification and modernisation. Proposed developments include waterfalls, glass bridges, a gaming zone, a space-themed park, an urban hot craft bazaar, hanging gardens, a hologram zoo, time travel experience zones, a rail museum, and an aquarium tunnel. These attractions are expected to position the location as a major tourism hotspot. The Pushkar Ghat will also be further developed, and both the ghat and the Havelock Bridge will be integrated into a single dynamic tourist destination, she added.
