A Black Chick-fil-A Employee Sues After Shock Claims About 'Slave Whippings' at Work
A Black former Chick-fil-A employeein Idaho is suing on claims that he endured racist abuse from his co-workers, including being called an 'ape' and threatened to be put in a cage.
In December 2022, Thomas Wade started working as a cook at a Chick-fil-A in Idaho Falls. Wade alleges that he faced repeated racial discrimination despite notifying his managers of the alleged abuse in roughly 25 to 30 reports. Per a copy of the complaint, obtained by The Independent, lawsuit, Wade says, one of his colleagues commented, 'Of course he works at Chick-fil-A; he's Black, so he loves chicken.'
In another disturbing incident, Wade alleges that he attempted to intervene when he saw two co-workers 'antagonizing a third employee.' He alleges that one of the workers was the supervisor's son.
'In response to his attempts to intervene and diffuse the situation, [the son] told [Wade], 'Shut up ape, before I put you in a cage,'' the complaint alleged. After reporting the alleged racist remark to his supervisor, Wade said the verbal abuse from the supervisors continued, with him calling Wade 'monkey-looking' and making it known that his 'parents own this store.'
But that's not all. Wade claims he found a variation of the N-word written on the kitchen freezer and his supervisor's daughters teasing how he 'looked like a monkey and acted like a monkey.' On another occasion, Wade claims he saw a supervisor's son using a towel to whip a co-worker. The son allegedly told Wade that 'he would know about getting whipped since he is Black.'
After reporting the behavior several times, Wade was fired on October 16, 2023. Per the lawsuit, it was 'because [he] refused to tolerate and continued to report racist behavior and comments by his coworkers.' Now, he's suing. Wade's lawsuit, filed in March, seeks to hold the franchisee accountable for discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The franchise's owner, Lauren Mosteller, Inc. of Woodstock, Georgia, denied 'each and every' allegation in court earlier this month, calling the claims 'groundless,' 'isolated and sporadic,' and 'insufficient to establish a hostile work environment.'
A Chick-fil-A spokesperson responded to Wade's lawsuit, telling The Independent in a Tuesday statement, 'This matter involves a franchisee, not Chick-fil-A, Inc. Franchisees are independent operators responsible for all employment decisions in their restaurants. Chick-fil-A, Inc. is not involved in or aware of their employment matters.'

Missouri AG to open disaster assistance center in St. Louis to combat storm scams
ST. LOUIS – Starting next week, the Missouri Attorney General's Office is setting up a satellite office at Chaifetz Arena to help people avoid storm-related scams. The disaster assistance center will be open on select dates in June, beginning Monday. Florida Karen Arrested After This Alleged Atrocious Act Toward Two Black Kids Blowing Bubbles
Really? The one harmless thing children can do has now been subject to the wrath of a Karen tirade: blowing bubbles. One Florida woman targeted her tantrum toward two little Black kids but police say she used a nonlethal weapon that escalated the whole ordeal. Ada Anderson, 81, was arrested in connection to the Monday evening incident. The Marion County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a disturbance at a home on Pine Court Drive in Ocala, Fl. There, April Morant told police she and her daughters were in their driveway playing with bubbles when Anderson approached them behind the fence separating their homes. The woman told police the woman sprayed 'bear mace' at them and spat racial slurs while doing so, per ClickOrlando's report. Anderson told the cops Morant's daughters, three and six years old, were running up and down the fence yelling at her when she stepped out of her home and sprayed them. However, she claimed the liquid didn't touch them because she was 40 feet away from them, the report says. Nevertheless, Morant told the cops she and her daughters suffered lung issues and nose pain from inhaling the pepper spray and police found splatters of the liquid all over their property on their side of the fence. Also, Morant tells ClickOrlando her neighbor's behavior has been like this since moving to the neighborhood back in November. 'She tells us every day, like, an everyday occurrence, every day since we've been here, we don't belong here. And we are monkeys. And she calls us the N-word. So, it's always something. So, I know she's doing whatever she can to make me move,' Morant told reporters. The last crazy Karen incident we've seen in Ocala was in 2024 when 60-year-old Susan Lorincz shot and killed Black mother Ajike Owens who knocked on her door demanding answers to the accusations of throwing a pair of roller skates at her kids as they played. Lorincz argued self-defense but was still found guilty of felony manslaughter and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Despite Anderson's argument in this situation, she was arrested on a felony battery charge but bonded out of county jail. Records show she previously faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapons and stalking. She also faces a restraining order filed by Morant on behalf of herself and her daughters, the report says.

The city of Augusta officially launching Operation City Clean-Up
AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF) – Operation City Clean-Up is designed to offer meaningful service opportunities for people with court ordered community service. There have been community clean ups in the past, but this will be the first consistent one in the Augusta area. It will focus on high-traffic areas such as parks, streets and vacant lots. The clean-up started in the Harrisburg corridor but they will be going around to different areas that need to be cleaned. 'We're going to move this around to every single district throughout the county. Some Saturdays we'll be out in South Richmond County, others we may be downtown, we may be over in the Turpin Hill area, it just depends on the area that needs the most help,' said Garnett L. Johnson, Mayor of Augusta. For the city clean-ups, they are offering a 2 for 1 ratio to ensure accountability and encourage participation. One of the participants of the clean-up, Syntavous Smith, says he believes it will do just that, and he is happy to be serving his community. 'He came out here and surprised us, two for one you can't beat that! Four hours and you get four extra hours, so yeah, I think it's a good purpose and a good way to get people to actually do it. We're serving the purpose of cleaning up the community and helping the community out, anything for the community.' Mayor Johnson says he is looking forward to the future clean ups, and is hoping more people join. 'What's most important is hopefully we're gaining ambassadors to tell others as they're driving along the roadways not to throw litter out on the side of the road. As I have always said, I don't see this as punishment, keeping Augusta clean and having a sense of pride where we call home is very important and I'm just glad to have these individuals that are helping today and will be helping moving forward,' said Johnson.
