Arcade Fire opened their set with the album's title track and closed with the new single 'Year of the Snake.'
Pink Elephant will mark the band's first album since 2022's We, which reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and climbed to the summit of the Top Rock Albums chart.
The forthcoming 10-track album was recorded at Butler and Chassagne's Good News Recording Studio in New Orleans and is set for release this spring through Columbia Records. Described as a 'cinematic, mystical punk' effort, the album promises a sonic odyssey exploring themes of light and darkness, inner beauty, and the 'perception of the individual.'
The release also marks Arcade Fire's first since multiple former fans accused Butler of sexual misconduct in 2022. The frontman denied that any of the encounters were nonconsensual, but issued an apology 'to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior.'
The SNL appearance was the band's first major television performance since the allegations came to light.
Saturday's episode marked Arcade Fire's sixth appearance on the long-running NBC sketch comedy show. They made their SNL debut in 2007 during an episode hosted by Rainn Wilson. In 2010, they returned alongside host Scarlett Johansson, followed by a 2013 performance during Tina Fey's episode. In 2012, they served as Mick Jagger's backing band. The group returned again in 2018 with Bill Hader and most recently appeared in 2022 during an episode hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch.
SNL will close out its milestone 50th season on May 17, with Johansson returning as host and Bad Bunny as the musical guest.

Justin Bieber Shows Off New Pics With Baby Jack: ‘Gonna Be a Good Summer'
On daddy duty! Justin Bieber gave fans new glimpses of his son, Jack, via social media on Friday (May 30). The photos of the 9-month-old appeared in a carousel of images posted by the pop star with the caption, 'Gonna be a good summer.' In the first photo, the pop star carries Jack on his shoulders with the toddler's face just out of the top of the frame to maintain his privacy. Further into the slideshow, the 'Love Yourself' singer lounges shirtless on a gray couch with Jack sprawled out comfortably next to him. Several followers, however, took notice of certain slides depicting Bieber smoking in the same outfit, on the same, above-mentioned couch. Although Jack was absent from those particular photos, fans were quick to remind the singer about the dangers of smoking around children, including their increased susceptibility to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma and other respiratory problems, behavioral and learning difficulties and more. The singer's latest photos with Jack come just days after his wife, Hailey Bieber, sold her skincare company, Rhode, for a cool billion-dollar payday to e.l.f Beauty earlier this week. To celebrate, Bieber reposted a screenshot of his longtime love wearing a white pantsuit, along with sharing the grateful caption she penned to explain the acquisition. Justin Bieber Slams Haters in Cryptic Post: ‘God Decides What We Deserve'
Justin Bieber is speaking his mind once again, sharing a cryptic post on Instagram slamming people who tell others what they 'should or shouldn't have.' In white text typed over a purple gradient Tuesday (June 3), the pop star began by writing that 'telling other humans they deserve something is like raising someone else's kids.' More from Billboard Justin Bieber Shows Off New Pics With Baby Jack: 'Gonna Be a Good Summer' Kneecap Announce Massive Wembley Arena Headline Show Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR Announce '$ome $pecial $hows 4 U.K.' Tour Dates 'Who are you to tell someone what someone should or shouldn't have,' he continued. 'The audacity. That's not your place.' The 'Peaches' singer added, 'God decides what we deserve.' Billboard has reached out to his reps for comment. Bieber did not specify to whom he was referring in the post, but it does come at a particularly prosperous time for his family. A few days prior to his message, skincare mogul Hailey Bieber — whom the pop star married in 2018 — announced that she'd sold her Rhode company to e.l.f. Beauty for a reported $1 billion, something the musician celebrated by proudly sharing the news on his Instagram. Before that, the model — with whom Justin welcomed son Jack Blues in August — appeared on the cover of Vogue. In the accompanying profile, the 'Baby' vocalist said, 'I've done a lot of dumb things in my life, but the smartest thing I've ever done was marry Hailey.' The Grammy winner's post is just the latest cryptic statement he's made on Instagram in recent months. In February, he made headlines for posting about how it was 'time to grow up' on his Story, after which he penned musings in March about feeling like he was 'drowning' in 'hate' and struggling with feeling 'unworthy.' In April, Justin called out paparazzi in Los Angeles, sharing a video of cameramen following him out to his car, writing, 'This has to stop.' 'IM CURRENTLY ASKING [GOD] TO HELP ME WITH PATIENCE BECAUSE It CAN BE REALLY HARD TO NOT RIP THESE F–KIN GUYS HEADS OFF,' he also wrote at the time. 'Today I'm forgiving myself for my own selfishness, AND forgiving THOSE WHO SEEK TO USE AND ABUSE ME SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CAPITaLIze off of me, Or Their jealousy makes them want to make me feel small like how they feel.' Lizzo Claims Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Attacks Her Right To Free Speech
Lizzo is appealing the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her by her former dancers, describing the complaint as an 'attack' on her 'First Amendment right to perform her music and advocate for body positivity.' The explosive suit, filed in August 2023, accused the 'Special' star of sexual harassment, discrimination, and creating a hostile work environment by Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez. While some accusations were dismissed, a judge granted the overall lawsuit to move toward a jury trial. Lizzo's legal team urged an appeals court to overturn the ruling and dismiss the entire case in a filing last month. 'It is dangerous for the court to weigh in, ham-fisted, into constitutionally protected activity,' Judge Mark H. Epstein wrote. 'But it is equally dangerous to turn a blind eye to allegations of discrimination or other forms of misconduct merely because they take place in a speech-related environment.' Her attorneys suggested that Lizzo's alleged behavior was part of her 'artistic approach.' The filing read, 'Plaintiffs' suit [is] an attack on Lizzo's First Amendment right to perform her music and advocate for body positivity. Rather than accept personal accountability, plaintiffs filed this shotgun action, taking aim at nearly every facet of Lizzo's creative process.' Her legal defense focuses around California's anti-SLAPP law — a special statute that makes it easier to quickly end lawsuits that threaten free speech, Billboard reports. In an effort to dismiss the case under this law, Lizzo's attorneys argued the dancers wanted to 'silence' Lizzo and 'weaponize' her creative expression against her. One questionable instance in the initial claim was that Lizzo strongly urged for her dancers to attend a cabaret show in Amsterdam's Red Light District and engage with the nude performers. Yet, her defense claimed that the ordeal was optional and directly tied to her 'creative process.' Lead attorney Marty Singer explained, 'There's no disagreement that Lizzo held these outings as a necessary part of her creative process. Early social gatherings during international tours (like the Bananenbar) are critical to team-building and fostering cohesion.' Lizzo's defense feels law shouldn't govern an artist's creative process. 'Judges must not dissect the creative process to determine what was necessary to achieve the final product and what was not,' said her legal team. 'By rejecting the artist's proven experience for what is necessary to, and best enhances, her own art, the trial court stepped far outside its role.' Lizzo has denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegation as 'false' and 'sensationalized.' The Grammy winner noted, 'I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not.' If Lizzo's appeal is granted, the case will be dismissed. If the court sides with the plaintiffs, the case will continue toward a jury trial.
