Indian diaspora in Bahrain appreciates New Delhi's reinforced conviction to take action against terrorism
Manama: Indian diaspora in Bahrain have welcomed the visit of an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, demonstrating India's unified stance against terrorism and its commitment to engaging with the global community.
The delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda , held a series of meetings with Indian expatriates and Bahraini officials in Manama as part of India's diplomatic outreach.
Meera Ravi, Editor of Salaam Bahrain Magazine, appreciated the delegation's visit, saying it reinforced India's conviction to take action against terrorism. The delegation's presence helped to convey that India's response was not about war, but about anti-terrorism.
"In this day and age, when you have so much of social media and news by the minute, it's very difficult not to know what is happening in India and Pakistan, especially in this context. However, what is very important in having an all-party delegation visiting Bahrain and telling us what it is about is that it reinforces for all of us our conviction and telling everyone, 'This is what the Government of India means when it says they want action. This is what the Government of India and the people of India want to do when they are attacked,' and it's not about war, but it is about anti-terrorism. I think that was a very strong message of the all-party delegation, and it also underscored India's diversity and unity in the face of terror. I'm very happy that this happened," said Meera Ravi.
The delegation's visit aimed to reinforce India's stance on combating terrorism and showcase the country's unity and diversity.
PK Ravi, a businessman and chartered accountant in Manama, highlighted Bahrain's positive environment and strong support for Indian residents. He appreciated the Bahraini government's statement of support for India following recent events.
"In fact, as we heard, Bahrain is a country that loves people. It's a country that loves peace. They don't want any confusion. They don't want any upheavals. In that contest, the Bahrain government has passed a statement the day the attack took place. Two days later they showed their allegiance to India. They showed their support to India, and from that day I've been seeing that the Bahrain government has been very, very supportive of what we are doing back home. We are very thankful to the Government of Bahrain for supporting us, for supporting incentive, and I must add one more line, that we Indians expatriates living so peacefully in this part of the world, and the comfort the government gives us even in the face of these attacks is very much appreciated. We thank the government of Bahrain for all the support they provide to the expatriates and to the world in general," said PK Ravi.
Ravi praised India's diplomatic outreach, saying the delegation's visit would help counter misinformation and spread awareness about India's stance on terrorism.
"What India has done is a master stroke - sending the all-party delegation; that the misinformation that was generated, I don't know how many people believed it, but the very fact that the Government of India took cognizance of that is happening globally and sending these kinds of powerful delegations all over the world - all parties mixed, all religions mixed, and they come and address us. When we go back home, I'm going to spread this news to about another thousand people. My children are in London. The first call I'll make is to them, to tell them, 'Look at how safe we feel and what kind of proactive action the government is taking.' We are very, very appreciative of The Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi for taking these actions, and we thank the delegation for coming here and I can assure you this message will pass on to thousands and thousands of people through all of us who came today and who came for the talk in the embassy also," he added.
The delegation's activities in Bahrain included formal meetings at the Indian Embassy, where BJP MP Baijayant Panda underscored the role of the diaspora in advancing India's interests abroad. Panda described the Indian community as representing the voice of 140 crore Indians and India's growing "soft power."
During a session with local leaders, he noted that Bahraini authorities had expressed high regard for the Indian community and characterised the discussions as open and candid.
The delegations also visited the Shrinathji Temple in Manama. The stop at the temple was marked by visuals capturing their interaction with local community members and the temple's significance for the diaspora.
According to updates shared by the Indian Embassy in Bahrain, Ambassador Vinod K Jacob welcomed the all-party delegation to India House and provided a briefing to its members.
The visit also featured a tribute ceremony, as delegation members paid floral respects to Mahatma Gandhi--a gesture reinforcing India's commitment to peace and unity. Embassy posts on X further documented the delegation's engagements with community members and reiterated India's unified stance against terrorism.
The multi-party delegation included Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Rekha Sharma, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and former Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla, in addition to Panda.

India, Denmark join hands to set up Centre of Excellence in Green Shipping
Copenhagen: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal met Denmark's Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Morten Bodskov in a bilateral meeting here on Friday. The meeting resulted in the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Green Shipping, to be established in India. Both leaders reaffirmed the Green Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on bilateral maritime collaboration. An MoU was signed between the two countries. It is intended to improve the quality and efficiency of maritime activities while promoting the green transition of the maritime sector in India. The ministers underscored this as a new milestone in India-Denmark maritime collaboration with the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Green Shipping, as outlined in the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maritime affairs signed in 2024. Union Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said, "Under the visionary leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India is now the 4th largest economy and undertaking several transformative initiatives under our Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. These include efforts in port infrastructure, green shipping, shipbuilding, and digitalisation." "We seek Denmark's participation and investments in these transformative initiatives, where your expertise and leadership in sustainable maritime practices can make a significant impact. We are keen to develop both domestic and international green shipping corridors with Denmark. Identifying suitable routes, developing supportive policy, and building infrastructure will be key," Sonowal added. The two ministers reaffirmed the Green Strategic Partnership, as mutually agreed upon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Denmark counterpart, Mette Frederiksen. The Ministers highlighted the importance of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on maritime affairs signed in 2024, which encompasses establishing the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Green Shipping. The ministers highlighted alignment with targets set out in the Government of India's Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, including India's ambitions to become a green shipping hub for the international maritime sector. A Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed between the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC), Lothal, and the Maritime Museum of Denmark, Elsinore, to increase collaboration in the preservation and valorisation of cultural heritage related to maritime heritage. The LOI established a framework for cooperation to study, exchange, or showcase common maritime heritage, share technical know-how, and conduct joint research on common maritime heritage. Adding further, Sarbananda Sonowal said, "We appreciate Denmark's engagement through the Joint Working Group on Shipping and the India-Nordic Summit. The Joint Action Plan on Green Strategic Partnership provides a strong framework to drive all this forward. Our maritime cooperation is built on mutual trust, shared values, and a common vision for a sustainable and future-ready maritime sector. Our joint efforts will also contribute meaningfully to global maritime sustainability and innovation." Both sides discussed possible ways and means to deepen bilateral maritime relations spanning green shipping, decarbonisation, maritime training and education, green fuel and technology collaboration, and ship recycling. India has proposed that the National Centre of Excellence for Green Port and Shipping (NCoEGPS) and the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) begin joint work on certifications and launch collaborative research focused on energy efficiency technologies. It also proposed that the Indian Ports Association (IPA) coordinate with the Port of Aarhus to develop smart port solutions. These innovative models can later be adapted and scaled across ports in India to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability. "Digital transformation is a shared goal between us. Denmark's use of technologies like blockchain for ship registries and automation in port operations is closely aligned with our Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047," added Sarbananda Sonowal during the meeting. The CoE is intended to improve the quality and efficiency of maritime activities while promoting the green transition of the maritime sector in India. Both parties identified the Maersk McKinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) and the National Centre of Excellence for Green Port and Shipping (NCoEGPS) as key institutions to formulate a specific project plan for the development of a Green Corridor. Indo-Danish CoE will contribute to the development of green corridors through a pre-feasibility study. The study will serve as a preliminary assessment of the main components of possible green corridors in India and outline the most promising ones.

India: PM Modi flags off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra to Srinagar in J-K
Reasi (Jammu and Kashmir): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, directly connecting Jammu division with Kashmir. This marks a major milestone in Jammu and Kashmir's railway connectivity. Before flagging off the trains, Prime Minister Modi interacted with school children onboard and also spoke with railway staff members present on the train. The new Vande Bharat Express service will reduce the travel time between Katra and Srinagar from the current 6-7 hours by road to just about 3 hours. The trains aim to provide a fast, comfortable, and reliable travel option for residents, tourists, and pilgrims. The train will run through the Anji Khad Bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, which is the highest railway bridge in the world. These trains have been specially designed to operate in the cold climatic conditions of the Kashmir Valley. Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge - 'Chenab Railway Bridge' and India's first cable-stayed 'Anji Bridge' in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. In a remarkable gesture, Prime Minister Modi waved the Tiranga, the Indian national flag and carried it forward on the deck of the bridge on the Chenab River. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were present during the inauguration. Before the inauguration of the bridge on the Chenab, the Prime Minister inspected the railway arch bridge. These bridges are part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project in Jammu and Kashmir. The iconic Chenab Railway Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, is part of the Katra-to-Sangaldan stretch, connecting New Delhi directly with Kashmir via Katra. Situated in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Chenab Bridge is an engineering marvel standing at a height of 359 metres above the riverbed. It will officially connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail for the first time in history. The project faced numerous engineering and logistical challenges due to the region's difficult terrain and seismic sensitivity. Yet, after years of meticulous work, the bridge now stands as a testament to India's technological prowess and commitment to inclusive development. It marks a transformative chapter in India's infrastructural landscape, promising greater connectivity, economic growth, and social integration in the region. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project is 272 km long USBRL project, constructed worth around Rs 43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration.

Musk's Starlink will be given 3rd satcom services licence after Airtel and Jio: Scindia
Gwalior: Indian Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said Elon Musk's Starlink will be the third satellite internet company to be given a license for providing services in India. So far, Bharti's OneWeb and Reliance Jio have received a license from the Department of Telecom, government of India, the minister told reporters. "In the coming days, the third license will be provided," he said, referring to Starlink. Once licenses are given, the minister said the spectrum would be allocated to them. "And after this, the government will provide the spectrum. Subsequently, satellite telecom services will be fully operational in the country at a rapid pace. I am sure the customer base in India will grow substantially," the minister added. "Starlink's satellite connectivity is like a new flower in the telecom bouquet," he said, explaining the progress of the telecom ecosystem in the country. "Earlier, there was only a fixed line. Today, there is mobile connectivity and broadband connectivity. Optical fibre connectivity has also come in. Along with these, satellite connectivity is also very important," he quipped. Scindia asserted that internet penetration can only be increased through satellite communication services, especially in remote areas where laying wires and installing towers would be difficult. Recently, Airtel and Jio have also partnered with Starlink to bring the latter's high-speed satellite internet services to their customers in India. Starlink will use Airtel and Jio's strong dealership network to sell and promote its services. Satellite telecom in India will help the country provide much-needed services in remote interior places where conventional telecom services tend to be costly. Starlink's entry into India has gained currency lately, with Donald Trump winning the US presidency for a second term. Elon Musk is a close aide of President Trump. In mid-April, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met a delegation from Elon Musk-owned satellite internet services company Starlink. Their discussions covered "Starlink's cutting-edge technology platform, their existing partnerships and future investment plans in India," Minister Goyal had then said in a post on X.
