Rory McIlroy Sends Blunt Message: 'I Don't Care'

Yahoo11-05-2025

At the Truist Championship, Rory McIlroy looked every bit like a man on a mission. Still riding high from his Masters' win, the one that completed his career Grand Slam, McIlroy heads into the final PGA Tour stretch ranked third in the FedEx Cup standings. He's already locked in wins at The Players and Augusta this season, and now, with Charlotte's Quail Hollow around the corner, he seems poised to chase a sixth major.
But behind that sharp game lies a sharper mindset. McIlroy didn't hold back in a press conference this Saturday, admitting that stepping away from PGA Tour politics has cleared his head.

'I'm certainly not involved too much in the politics of everything,' he said. 'Being on the board of this tour, and even just talking about, like, you know, changes to the tour championship, and all that. I've no idea what's going on, and I, you know, I think at this point, I don't care. You know, I just, I want to play golf, and the reason I got into this game was to shoot scores, and try to play the best golf possible."
It's clear that his renewed focus is paying off. McIlroy's post-Masters presence has been confident and relaxed. From his 53-foot bomb at Truist to his humor about media narratives.

"It was a great experience, but I'm happy with where I'm at right now," McIlroy seems lighter, unburdened.
Fellow pros like Shane Lowry are already shifting the spotlight: 'Maybe you can talk about Jordan now. Or Scottie winning the grand slam.'
But McIlroy's not done. Whether it's stepping back from boardrooms or sinking clutch putts, Rory's message is and clear, he just wants to play. And golf's better off for it.

Taylor Swift Makes History After Taking Back Ownership of Her Masters

Taylor Swift Makes History After Taking Back Ownership of Her Masters originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been a banner week for pop star Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce. Though she didn't win any of the six American Music Awards she was nominated for, Swift was still in the headlines and a trending topic on social media after she was seen on a solo outing in New York City on Thursday night — her first public appearance without Kelce since before the Super Bowl back in early February. Then, less than 12 hours later, Swift rocked the music world when she announced she had struck a deal, reportedly worth $360 million, to buy back the masters of her first six albums from Shamrock Capital, which had ownership rights since buying them from Scooter Braun back in 2019. The announcement was one of, if not the biggest in the entertainment world this year, and hours after Swift posted the news, her album 'Reputation,' which was released back in 2017, was once again No. 1 on the iTunes chart, bumping Morgan Wallen out of the top spot. Now, 48 hours later, Swift got some more good news as she's achieved something no other recording artists ever has before. 'For the first time ever, all of Taylor Swift's albums received over 2 million daily streams on Spotify,' X account @chartstswift posted. It marks the first time ever any recording artist has had every one of their albums hit 2 million streams each all in the same day. Swift also had a milestone day on Saturday, seeing the biggest streaming day for any female artist this year, hitting 65 million streams on Spotify, despite not releasing any new music since April 19, 2024, when 'The Tortured Poets Department' was made available. There have been reports that Swift is expected to work on a new album for an end-of-year-release, but nothing has been confirmed by anyone in the 14-time Grammy winner's camp about it yet. Swift and Kelce have been spotted a few times this offseason having a date night, but the couple has actively been avoiding the public eye since the Super Bowl. But with the 2025 NFL season right around the corner, Chiefs fans will be seeing a lot more of the 'Fortnight' singer as it's been reported Swift is expected to attend most, if not all of Kelce's home games this season. The Chiefs are 19-4 in games that Swift attends, including the playoffs (and two Super Bowls). This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 3, 2025, where it first appeared.

McIlroy 'concerned' for US Open after driver issues

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy says he is "concerned" by his form heading into the US Open next week after struggling with driver issues at the Canadian Open. The 36-year-old missed the cut at the Canadian Open on Friday, finishing nine over par and 149th in a 153-man field. Advertisement The Masters champion shot an eight-over-par 78 during his second round as he struggled to get to grips with a new driver. McIlroy's previous driver was ruled non-conforming on the eve of last month's US PGA Championship, with the Northern Irishman going on to finish 47th in North Carolina. With a new 44-inch driver in hand, McIlroy found just 13 of 28 fairways in Toronto and he made a quadruple-bogey eight on the par-four fifth hole after a disastrous tee-off. "Of course it concerns me," said McIlroy. "You don't want to shoot high scores like the one I did today. I felt like I came here, obviously with a new driver, thinking that sort of was going to be good and solve some of the problems off the tee, but it didn't. Advertisement "Obviously going to Oakmont next week, what you need to do more than anything else there is hit fairways. I'm still sort of searching for the missing piece off the tee. Obviously for me, when I get that part of the game clicking, then everything falls into place for me. Right now that isn't. Yeah, that's a concern going into next week." With play starting on 12 June, McIlroy has little time to iron out his issues from the tee. But the five-time Major winner says he will test several drivers in the coming days to find the right one. "I'm going to have to do a lot of practice and a lot of work over the weekend at home and try to at least have a better idea of where my game is going into next week," said McIlroy. Advertisement "I went back to a 44-inch driver this week to try to get something that was a little more in control and could try to get something a bit more in play. But if I'm going to miss fairways, I'd rather have the ball speed and miss the fairway than not. "I'd say I'll be testing quite a few drivers over the weekend."

During Megan Thee Stallion's appearance on Davis' podcast, the rapper asked if Big (a.k.a. John James Preston) was a part of the Sex and the City spinoff, And Just Like That… 'Something happened to him,' Davis said with a knowing smile, before asking, 'Should I ask her? I don't want to ruin it for you.' 'Tell me,' the musician said, and Davis very quietly whispered, 'He died,' leaving the singer shocked with her mouth agape.
