A stretch of the London-bound carriageway on the M2 in Kent was closed following a crash involving five vehicles.Police said it happened at about 07:30 BST on Tuesday, near junction 3, near Chatham and Rochester.Traffic was held at the scene from 07:40 BST, with the road reopening at 08:25 BST.Police are yet to confirm if anybody was injured and traffic is reported to be queueing back to junction 4.

National Highways said the crash was "major", resulting in "a serious injury". The M4 in Berkshire is currently closed eastbound, between junctions 11 and 10, and westbound, between junctions 8/9 and 11, the highways agency added. It said Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue and Thames Valley Police were called to the scene. The road is "expected to remain closed for some time", National Highways said. It reported "severe" delays on the closures in both directions - in part due to broken-down vehicles in the queues. There are also reports of a vehicle fire between J7 and J8 nearby on the westbound carriageway. As a result of the crash, London-bound vehicles face 30-minute delays and three miles of congestion on approach. Road diversions have been put in place.

The incident happened on the London-bound carriageway of the A299 Thanet Way, between St Nicholas-at-Wade and Herne Bay, at about 19:50 BST on Saturday. One of the occupants of the a blue Skoda, a woman in her 60s, was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries, Kent Police said. The car's other occupant was taken to a nearby hospital. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to carry out inquiries, the force said. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
