Buddy Franklin breaks his silence on wild rumour that he has been wearing a wig

Daily Mail24-04-2025

AFL legend Lance 'Buddy' Franklin has rubbished rumours he is sporting a wig, adamant his new hairstyle is the real deal.
The Hawthorn and Sydney great, 38, is growing his hair and denied speculation - including from former Hawks teammate Jarryd Roughead - he is secretly wearing a piece.
'It was quite funny I caught up with Roughie a couple of weeks ago when I was down in Melbourne.....he said all the boys think you've got a bit of a wig, fake hair,' Franklin said on his new Buddy and Shane podcast with fellow footy great Shane Crawford.
'I said absolutely not, mate. This has taken me a year to grow and I'm so happy with it. 'Then he says (nah) you've got a wig. (I said) it's mine.'
Franklin went onto state he plans to 'go long' and won't be heading to the barber for a buzz cut anytime soon.
He is also pounding the pavement ahead of the New York Marathon in November.
Speaking on the Buddy and Shane podcast with fellow footy great Shane Crawford, Franklin confirmed he plans to 'go long' and won't be heading to the barber anytime soon
'I'm really excited about it,' Franklin said.
'I've been running for a little while now. Going down to Canberra for Mother's Day that starts with 10km run, then we're going to do a half marathon (on the) Gold Coast, then Alice Springs 30km run and then New York.
'Looking forward to it, it'll be a bit of fun. I've just absolutely loved putting the ear phones in and going for a run. (There is) nothing better.
'I did (have a dodgy knee). Now that I've finished up (playing footy) my body is feeling pretty good which is great.
'Running around having a kick with the kids is amazing.'
Franklin made his AFL debut in 2005 and won two flags with Hawthorn before moving to Sydney in 2014.
While he failed to win a premiership with the Swans, Franklin retired in 2023 after booting 1066 career goals from 354 games.
He now resides on the Gold Coast with wife Jesinta and their two kids, Tullulah and Rocky.

Footy star Payne Haas reveals why he travels almost 1000km to get a haircut

Payne Haas has been on fire in the NRL over the past 12 months. The Brisbane Broncos star's performances have seen him establish himself as one of the best players so far this season and that was evident during State of Origin I. Haas was simply outstanding during that match, fearlessly amassing 61 post-contact metres from 18 carries, while the 25-year-old also racked up 30 tackles during the match. But interestingly for the Brisbane star, some of the his recent form may just boil down to how he gets his hair cut. Or more specifically, where. According to The Daily Telegraph, the 6ft 4in forward is loyal to his long standing barber and good friend Mohamad Srour that he will commute nearly 732km between Brisbane and Sydney to make sure he gets the best trim in the business. 'I gotta try to do something with the way I look, bro,' Haas told the outlet. The NSW prop has been in flying form this season and has spoken on how having a good haircut from his regular barbers helps him look good, feel good and therefore play good He revealed that having a sharp haircut helps him boost his confidence on the footy field. The NSW star adds that he also wants to support his good friend, Srour, who runs the Barber Brothers chain in Sydney. 'I don't look the best when I don't have a cut, so whenever I get a haircut, I feel good. 'I always come back to Sydney, and Moey always cuts me up. We've known each other for a long time, and I always want to help out his business and support him.' Prior to flying out to Perth on Saturday with Laurie Daley's NSW squad, Haas in fact took a 30-minute Uber to get his hair cut at the Barber Brotherss shop in Eastlakes. Haas has also previously asked Srour and his team to join his team in camp if they needed a trim. The outlet adds that the barber travelled all the way to Melbourne last year to cut the hair for the Blues players ahead of Origin II. 'I take the Barber Brothers team, and we fade up the boys. We've been doing it since 2019,' Srour added. Haas, meanwhile, has opened up on his future plans in the NRL and Brisbane fans will be delighted to hear that the star prop forward is loving life at the Queensland club. The 25-year-old joined the club back in 2016, having risen through the youth ranks at the footy club. Two years later, he'd go on to make his NRL debut for the first-grade side and has gone on to make 131 appearances for the side. 'I love it here, and built something very good for myself and my family in Brisbane,' he added.

Beloved comedian Denise Scott reveals she was rushed to hospital after drinking HAND SANITISER amid battle with 'aggressive' cancer

Denise Scott has revealed how she accidentally drank hand sanitiser on the set of her ABC sitcom, Mother And Son. The beloved Australian comedian, 70, who was nominated for a Logie Award for her lead role in the show last year, said the mishap saw her rushed to hospital. Appearing on The Project on Monday night, Denise explained how she mistook the substance for water. 'I rock up,first time I've been in a sitcom, I'm the lead, I'm so scared' she began the story. 'And it's a really hot day, and this young runner has driven me to set, and I was so nervous that I pulled the water, I'm like guzzling. Then I think, "What have I just drunk?"' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'It wasn't water. It was hand sanitiser! It had liquefied in the Sydney heat.' Denise said the crew rushed to get her medical attention after the unfortunate episode. 'They think, "Right, that's it. Filming's stopped. Get the ambulance for Denise. It's cancer-related." I'm choking' she said. 'Anyway, that stuff is like 95 or 96 percent proof. I was out of my mind the whole day.' Denise recovered from the mishap, and is also in recovery following an intense 17 months of breast cancer treatment amid her battle with an 'aggressive' form of the disease. Denise was diagnosed with cancer near the start of 2023 and revealed the shock news publicly shortly after. She detailed her 'pretty much non-stop' 17 months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments to fight the 'particularly aggressive' form of breast cancer. Denise took to Facebook to reveal that she had undergone her last day of chemotherapy after first starting the treatment back in February 2023. 'Yesterday was my last day of chemo. I've been having treatment for breast cancer HER2 positive pretty much non-stop for 17 months,' she shared alongside a picture of herself in hospital. The TV star went on to detail the months-long stints of chemotherapy and other treatments she has undergone over the past year and a half amid her cancer battle. She went on: 'Feb 2023-May 2023 Chemo, June 2023 lumpectomy and removal of lymph nodes from right arm pit, August 2023-Sept 2023 Daily Radiation sessions for 6 weeks, (and) Aug 2023- May 2024 9 more months of Chemo.' Denise confirmed that her latest mammogram was 'clear' as she thanked her fans for their support amid the difficult time. 'For now, at least, the treatment has done its job,' she penned. 'Latest mammogram was clear. I lost all my hair (in) the first round of chemo, then got these thin white, quite frankly disappointing, tufts grow in (the) second round - different sort of chemo. 'So many people to thank and acknowledge. But for now I'll leave it there. Thank you for yr lovely messages.' (sic) The media personality and former star of The Project first spoke about her cancer diagnosis to The Australian Women's Weekly. She told how she was first diagnosed with breast cancer while working on the Mother and Son reboot, but bravely carried on shooting the project. 'I do console myself that at least I've lived a full life that I'm happy with,' Denise told the publication. 'But I don't want to go yet. There are things I want to do.' Denise said she was leaning on her partner John Lane for support, adding: 'The prognosis has continued to be good, and there's a lot of hope.' Denise met John when they performed together as clowns on a theatre production in Albury, New South Wales. The couple have been together for more than 40 years but they never got married, with Denise previously saying it wasn't something either of them focused on. Denise stars in the ABC reboot of the series Mother And Son, which famously had Ruth Cracknell in the role of Maggie Beare. Considered one of the greatest of all home made classics, Mother & Son debuted on the ABC in 1984. The iconic sitcom starred Gary McDonald as a bewildered adult son trying to cope with his ageing mother, played by the late Cracknell. In the re-boot, comedian Matt Okine now plays Arthur, who moves in to look after the recently widowed Maggie (Scott), who may or may not have burnt down the kitchen in the family home. As in the original, the reboot sees Maggie run rings around her well-meaning family. Also featured in the cast of the re-boot are Angela Nica Sullen who plays Arthur's older sister Robbie and Fat Pizza's Jean Kittson. Tiriel Mora from the 90s classic comedy Frontline also stars along with Virginia Gay from Winner and Losers and Catherine Văn-Davies (The Twelve). The original show won over audiences for its funny and poignant depiction of the challenges adult children often face when dealing with an ageing parent who suffers from 'memory loss' (actually, dementia). Maggie (Cracknell) became a fan favourite as she seemed to spend most of her waking hours 'out smarting' everyone, especially Arthur (McDonald), who was left to wonder just how 'out of it' she really might be.

Andy Murray ditches granny's shortbread to become brand ambassador for rival

The Scots tennis icon has been announced as the first-ever brand ambassador for Walker's Shortbread - despite his gran being famous for her own sweet treats Sir Andy Murray could be in a spot of bother with his own granny – after he was named as brand ambassador for a shortbread firm, despite her own famous version of the biscuits. The Dunblane tennis icon has been announced as the first-ever brand ambassador for Walker's Shortbread. ‌ But the Wimbledon champ's own gran, Shirley Erskine, has often hit the headlines herself with her legendary shortbread. ‌ Her recipe has even featured in a special's Mother's Day recipe book created in support of Scottish charity Mary's Meals. The sweet treat was also a big hit with fellow contestants, pro dancers and judges when Shirley's daughter – Andy's mum Judy Murray – took part in 'Strictly Come Dancing'. Shirley even took along a tin when invited on to Mrs Brown's Saturday night chat show and made a tin which went all the way to Wimbledon in exchange for a £100 donation to the local Dunblane Centre. Shirley has even been known to serve up a baking masterclass to local schoolchildren to teach them how to make the traditional Scottish biscuit. Announcing the new partnership, Walker's Shortbread said the former Olympic champ had penned a multi-year partnership with the Moray-based firm. ‌ On the deal, Andy said: 'I'm proudly Scottish, and partnering with Walker's, a brand that has been representing Scotland around the world for well over a century, felt like a great fit for me. 'I come from a small tight-knit community and when I look back at where I have come from, I am proud of what I've achieved, which is something I share with Walker's. ‌ 'It's a real honour to be part of this next chapter for such a well-loved Scottish brand.' ‌ With 46 tour titles under his belt and three Grand Slam victories – the two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner, and self-proclaimed shortbread superfan, added: 'I've been eating shortbread since I was a kid – my gran would make it all the time for us. We even celebrated my Wimbledon win with shortbread. 'Shortbread is one of my simple pleasures. No matter where I am in the world, a piece of Walker's Shortbread always transports me back home.' The partnership also pays homage to Walker's own history with tennis. Winne Walker, mother of the late Joe, Marjorie and Sir Jim Walker, was a passionate tennis enthusiast who played a pivotal role in the local tennis community. ‌ Inspired by her love for the sport, which began during her university years, Winnie was instrumental in establishing the first tennis courts at Aberlour Tennis Club. Nicky Walker, Managing Director, Walker's Shortbread: 'We are incredibly excited to welcome Andy Murray as our very first brand ambassador. We've always admired Andy's achievements, his dedication and his cautious charisma as well as his very obvious close relationship with his own family. These are qualities that resonate deeply with our own values at Walker's Shortbread. We are genuinely honoured that Andy and his team have acknowledged Walker's as a suitable partner, and we are looking forward to this exciting new venture as we continue to promote 'Scotland at its Finest'.' The deal will see Andy featured in the firm's latest advertising campaign – where his image will appear at train stations across the UK.
