Reports: UNLV set to hire ex-Ga. Tech coach Josh Pastner
Former Georgia Tech and Memphis basketball coach Josh Pastner is set to be hired as the new head coach at UNLV, multiple media outlets reported on Monday.
According to ESPN, Pastner accepted a five-year contract offer.
Fired by Georgia Tech in March 2023 after the Yellow Jackets' second consecutive losing season, Pastner spent the past two seasons as a basketball analyst on TV.
"I've loved doing the television, but I do want to coach again," he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week. "But I want to make sure it's the right opportunity for me and the school feels it's the right opportunity for them. I hope there comes an opportunity."
Pastner, 47, compiled a 109-114 record in seven seasons at Georgia Tech, starting in 2016-17. He led the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA Tournament just once, when they fell in the first round in 2021.
Prior to that, Pastner logged a 167-73 mark at Memphis from 2009-10 to 2015-16. The Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament four times during his tenure, losing twice in the first round and twice in the second round.
He also had stints as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Arizona, and at Memphis. As a walk-on freshman, Pastner was part of Arizona's NCAA-winning side in 1997.
UNLV fired coach Kevin Kruger on March 15 at the conclusion of an 18-15 season that finished with a defeat in the Mountain West tournament quarterfinals. Kruger was on the job for four seasons, logging a 76-55 record.

Minnesota women's coach Dawn Plitzuweit gets two-year contract extension with raise
MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota women's basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit has received a two-year contract extension that was approved Thursday by the university's board of regents. Plitzuweit is 47-29 over two seasons at Minnesota, including 13-23 in Big Ten play, with leading scorer Mara Braun missing much of them with foot injuries. The Gophers capped Plitzuweit's second year by winning the WBIT championship. They have not appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 2018. The new deal, which covers the next six seasons through 2031, gives Plitzuweit a raise of roughly 7% to bring her base salary to $900,000 for 2025-26, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, with annual increases of $30,000. That's in the middle of the pack in the 18-team Big Ten, which sent 12 of them to the NCAA Tournament this year. Plitzuweit was hired away from West Virginia, where she spent one season, to replace Lindsay Whalen. Plitzuweit is the 13th head coach in the program's history.

Lodise is the third player in program history to win the Howser, joining J.D. Drew in 1997 and Buster Posey in 2008. The award has been presented annually since 1987 and is named after former FSU All-American and head coach Dick Howser. Advertisement Lodise was named Atlantic Coast Conference player and defensive player of the year, and he also is a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award as the top amateur player in the nation and Brooks Wallace Award as the nation's top shortstop. Lodise ranked among the national leaders with a .394 batting average, 17 home runs, 18 doubles, 68 RBIs and .705 slugging percentage. He committed only five errors on 216 fielding chances (.977) and was part of 34 double plays. The junior from Jacksonville, Florida, had at least one hit in 48 of his 58 games. He had 31 multi-hit games and 13 games with three or more hits.
