The state govt has approved the minutes of the no-confidence motion discussion and officially notified the vacancy. Consequently, it has issued an order to conduct the special meeting for the deputy mayoral election on May 19.
Visakhapatnam deputy collector Mayur Ashok will serve as the presiding officer for the election.
The NDA has won back-to-back no-confidence motions against both the mayor and the deputy mayor from the YSRCP.
The mayoral post was given to a TDP corporator, and Peela Srinivasa Rao was elected as mayor about two weeks ago.
Now, regarding the
, some corporators from the
are also vying for the position. They recently wrote a letter to party chief Pawan Kalyan, explaining Jana Sena's "crucial role" in garnering support for the no-confidence motions and securing NDA's victories in both cases. In the letter, they argued that Jana Sena fully deserves the deputy mayor post and urged Pawan Kalyan to make an appropriate decision.
From a caste representation perspective, the deputy mayor post is expected to go to a member of the Yadava community, as the recently ousted mayor also belonged to that community. This move is seen as a way to compensate or pacify the community.

He confirmed that railway authorities have received directives to restart the work, which is projected to be completed within 18 to 21 months. As part of the development, six additional railway lines will be added, increasing the total to 14. Addressing a press conference here at the party office on Saturday, Mr. Sribharat also noted that the Union government has appointed a General Manager for the South Coast Railway Zone, who will be assuming charge shortly. CAG figures paint a disturbing picture of Andhra Pradesh's finances, says YSRCP president Jagan
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that the monthly key indicators released by the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) for April 2025 bring to light a 'very disturbing picture' of the State's finances. The government claimed on May 1 that the net GST collections for April 2025 were the highest since the introduction of GST at ₹3,354 crore, whereas, technically, the net GST would be subsequent to the making of all adjustments, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said. In fact, as per the CAG figures, the State GST revenues for the first month of FY 2025-26 had contracted to 24.20% when compared with that of April 2024, he said. The government also said the GST revenues were at a record high even in May. It was mentioned in a government release that in April 2025, the Centre had deducted ₹796 crore on account of adjustment of advance apportionment from Integrated GST (IGST) and because of it, GST revenues had come down. Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the advance apportionment of IGST would be accounted for under Minor Head 110 and was a part of SGST under Major Head 0006 of the government accounts. The net GST revenues would be arrived at after accounting for all the adjustments. Same was the case even in the previous years. The press release issued by the government on May 1 said that the net GST collections for April 2025 stood at ₹3,354 crore. Now, the government said a sum of ₹796 crore was adjusted. 'One can clearly understand from this that the government is covering up the sordid facts about the GST revenues,' he said. The CAG figures indicated that the trend of economic sluggishness was more pronounced during the first month of FY 2025-26, with the tax revenues registering a decline of 12.21% and non-tax revenues falling by 22.01% over April 2024, he added.

Without imposition, we will learn: Kamal Haasan on issue of imposition of language
Kamal Haasan voices strong opposition to Hindi imposition. He supports Punjab, Karnataka, and Andhra. His film 'Thug Life' faced release hurdles in Karnataka due to a language row. Haasan defends his stance, emphasizing education and linguistic diversity. He highlights the importance of English and the concerns of non-Hindi speakers. The film was not released in Karnataka after court intervention. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Where does Kamal Haasan stand on the issue of imposition of Hindi in the south? "I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra," is his quick pan-India superstar's latest film " Thug Life ", the 234th in a 65-year career, released in theatres this week amid controversy over his comment that Kannada was born out of Tamil. He refused to apologise and the film did not release in Karnataka."I am the actor from 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'...," Haasan told PTI during a recent visit to the news agency's headquarters, referring to his 1981 hit Hindi film about a Tamil boy and his romance with his Hindi speaking neighbour."Without imposition, we will learn. Don't impose, because this is ultimately education and we must take the shortest route to education... and not put hurdles in its way," the actor ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP). The party has repeatedly accused the BJP-led NDA government of attempting to "impose Hindi", a charge the Centre has that the imposition of a particular language only hampers the learning process, the 70-year-old said, "I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra. This is not only place which is resenting imposition."The Indian cinema stalwart, hugely popular in the south as well as in the north with films such as "Nayakan", "Thevar Magan", "Sadma", "Saagar" and Chachi 420" that bridged language divides, said if you are truly looking at "international breakthrough" you must learn one language."And English seems to be fair enough. You can do Spanish also, or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route to that is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but steadily. So when you suddenly replace it, it's all over again. You make unnecessarily many people illiterate, especially in Tamil Nadu."You suddenly force all through Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your job beyond the Vindhyas, then you start wondering, what about the promises? What about my language? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that are coming."Tamil is one of the 22 official languages of the country, apart from Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had said it would not let "Thug Life" release unless Haasan apologised for his Kannada-Tamil comment at a promotional event in banner Raajkamal Films International filed a plea before the Karnataka High Court seeking protection for the release of the film, which sees him reuniting with Mani Ratnam after "Nayakan" in a rap from the court over the remark, the producers said "Thug Life" will not be released in Karnataka.
