will begin operations in Kakkanad,
Ernakulam
, on Monday, said minister of higher education and social justice R Bindu in Thrissur.The state govt has been implementing various projects for the comprehensive upliftment of transgender individuals, considering the importance of areas ranging from education and healthcare to self-employment skill training and marriage financial assistance.
However, transgender individuals face various forms of social abuse, discrimination, neglect, mistreatment, physical assault and mental harassment. To address these challenges and provide necessary interventions and mental support, a 24-hour crisis intervention centre will be operational in Ernakulam, the minister said.The centre aims to alleviate the mental stress experienced by transgender individuals in various crises, including sexual harassment, physical assault, mental abuse, domestic violence and health-related issues, the minister added. The centre will offer a 24-hour helpline number and counselling services. Coordination with various departments, including police and health, will be carried out at the centre, which will also support transgender individuals during emergencies such as natural disasters and epidemics. The centre's goal is to provide immediate care to individuals in crisis and help them return to normalcy, she said.In the initial phase, necessary staff, including three counsellors and a coordinator, will be appointed to operate the centre. A 24-hour active helpline number, 1800 425 2147, will be available as soon as the centre begins operations. Preliminary activities to equip the crisis intervention centre as a full-time call centre with modern information technology facilities have also commenced, the minister added.In previous fiscal years, Rs 24.75 lakh were spent on building renovation works for this purpose. In the current fiscal year, Rs 34 lakh have been allocated for project activities, the minister stated. The centre will be operated by transgender individuals themselves.

UP inks Rs 435cr MoUs at Ahmd roadshow
Lucknow: Inviting pharma sector players to come and invest in UP during a roadshow in Ahmedabad on Friday, CEO of UP state industrial development authority (UPSIDA), Mayur Maheshwari said that a new era for the pharma sector is taking place in UP. "UP is developing a bulk drug pharma park on 1,472.33 acre in Lalitpur, with a proposed investment of approximately Rs250 crore. Likewise, Medihealth Diagnostic Pvt Ltd will establish a healthcare unit on 4,200 sqmt in Lalitpur, while Gaman Irradiation Company will invest Rs 35 crore in a skin treatment and irradiation unit. Creating employment for 150 people, the project will be implemented in 24-36 months. Additionally, Obmed Pharma has decided to invest Rs 200 crore to establish a formulation unit. Spread across five acre of land in Lalitpur, the unit will create employment for around 100 people. Several business-to-govt meetings were held, where detailed discussions on investment-related topics took place between industry representatives and govt officials. Earlier, in the welcome address, convenor of CII Gujarat pharma and healthcare panel, Swapnil Shah highlighted investment opportunities in UP. Advisor to UP CM, GN Singh said, "UP emerged as the most suitable state for investment in the pharma sector". He shared detailed information about the efforts made by the state govt to empower the pharma sector. An 'Open House' session followed, where participants engaged in direct dialogue with state govt officials to resolve their queries and concerns. HC grants conditional release of documents for PG medical students
Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court Friday provided relief to MBBS graduates pursuing post-graduate studies and directed SMS Medical College and other medical institutions to return their original documents in a case regarding post-PG senior residency internship. The court stipulated that petitioners must provide an undertaking to the state govt, agreeing to pay Rs 10 lakhs if they do not complete their senior residency. While hearing over two hundred petitions, including one by Dr Syed Shabaz and others, Justice Sameer Jain dismissed the state govt's review petition on grounds that the matter is already being heard by a division bench. "We have maintained that govt wants them to serve in govt hospital for 2 years after completing post-graduation," stated Archit Bohra, additional govt counsel. Petitioners explained that during PG course admission, applicant are required to sign a Rs 10 lakh bond, promising to serve the state govt for two years post-course, or pay the bond amount of Rs 10 lakh. Customer finds dead honeybee in pizza, eatery fined 1L by consumer panel
Mohali: In a striking case of food safety negligence, the district (Mohali) consumer disputes redressal commission has imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 on Domino's Pizza after a dead honeybee was allegedly found in a pizza purchased by two customers. The commission partly allowed the complaint, awarding the compensation for harassment, mental agony, and litigation expenses. The complainants, Gurpyar Singh, an advocate from Dhuri, and Surinder Kumar from Dhanas, Chandigarh, stated that they fell ill after consuming the contaminated pizza and had to be hospitalised at Govt Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, with symptoms of nausea and vomiting. They further alleged that when they brought the issue to the notice of the outlet manager, he not only tried to dismiss the complaint but also misbehaved with them. Whereas, Domino's, operated by Jubilant FoodWorks at Sector 125, New Sunny Enclave, Kharar, through its Manager Ronny, denied the allegations. In its defence, the company highlighted its stringent hygiene practices including insect killer machines, regular pest control, and oven temperatures of 515°F for over five minutes. They argued that the dead insect—whose wings and legs appeared intact in the complainants' photo — could not have survived the cooking process, implying possible tampering post-delivery. This fact clearly shows that the present complaint is a result of afterthought and that the dead fly was never there when the pizza was delivered to the complainant. However, the commission bench comprising president SK Aggarwal and member Paramjeet Kaur held the food chain accountable, stating, "Keeping in view the entire facts and peculiar circumstances of this case and the fact that the dead honeybee was found in the pizza purchased by the complainants from the company, the complaint is partly allowed with the directions to the company to pay compensation to the tune of Rs 1,00,000 to the complainants for harassment, mental agony, as well as litigation expenses.
