Watch: UAE unveils world's first jet-powered firefighting drone
In a bid to reduce response time in battling fires, the UAE unveiled the world's first jet-powered firefighting drone on Wednesday, May 28.
Named 'Suhail', the drone was unveiled at the UAE Pavilion during Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
The drone is equipped with smart systems and allows access to hotspots that cannot be reached manually, and enhances the speed and effectiveness of fire response.
It features cutting-edge computer vision and LiDAR-based 3D scanning for precise mapping, target detection, and obstacle avoidance and is equipped with integrated smart systems that enable vertical flight, precise manoeuvring, and efficient performance in difficult conditions.

Last September, the Sharjah Civil Defence announced it will use drone technology to deal with fires in high-rise buildings in the emirate, starting in 2025.
The new technology will enter service in the first quarter of 2025.
The authority had tested the drone with a technical team from the Civil Defence and the company Drone First Building Services, based in the UAE.

The signing ceremony, held at Bayan Palace in the presence of Sheikh Mansour and Kuwait's Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, underscores the two Gulf nations' intent to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties amid evolving regional dynamics. The agreements span a wide range of areas, with key MoUs covering healthcare, infrastructure, investment, social development, energy transition, and AI, as both countries pursue mutual development priorities and enhanced regional integration. UAE-Kuwait agreements signed According to the WAM report, the key deals signed cover sectors such as: Health: MoUs were signed between the UAE and Kuwait's health ministries to boost collaboration in medical services and public health policy. Education: Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in the education sector through a pact signed by their respective ministers of education. Energy and infrastructure: MoUs included commitments to collaborate in land transport, roads, oil and gas, and future energy initiatives such as water and electricity. Technology and industry: A separate agreement focused on industry and advanced technology was signed to support innovation and knowledge exchange. Humanitarian and legal affairs: Joint frameworks were agreed to address human trafficking and legal cooperation, reflecting a shared focus on rights and rule of law. Investment: The UAE's Minister of Investment and the head of Kuwait's Direct Investment Promotion Authority signed an MoU to promote bilateral investment flows. Security and data: Ministries of Interior from both sides inked an MoU on data protection and joint security information-sharing projects. AI partnership initiated, naval contract with EDGE The Kuwait Investment Authority joined the 'Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Partnership' initiative, which includes global partners MGX, BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners, and Microsoft — adding regional backing to the tech-driven project. In a separate defence agreement, Kuwait's Ministry of Defence signed a contract with UAE-based EDGE Group for the procurement of several 'Falaj 3' class missile boats, highlighting deepening defence industry ties between the two states. Representing the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and one of the highest-value naval export deals globally, the agreement positions EDGE as the prime contractor overseeing the design, construction, trials, delivery, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and In-Service Support (ISS) for the vessels. EDGE will also supply ammunition, highlighting its end-to-end defence capabilities. UAE, Irish ministers discuss extradition in phone call, laud local police efforts
Abdullah bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, and Jim O'Callaghan, T.D., Irish Minister for Justice spoke on May 31, following the extradition of an Irish national accused of murder and organised crime, based on a ruling by the Dubai Court of Cassation. They called the extradition a clear example of strong UAE-Ireland cooperation and a shared commitment to the rule of law. 'This positive development is further evidence of the excellent criminal justice cooperation between the governments of the UAE and Ireland and highlights our joint dedication to ensuring that criminal prosecutions may be brought against those who attempt to evade justice,' they said. Both ministers praised Dubai Police and An Garda Síochána for their role in the case and ongoing efforts to combat organised crime through closer police cooperation. The bilateral agreements on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters came into force on May 18, 2025.

Today, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, received President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Following the reception ceremony, the two Presidents headed to Qasr Al Shatie, where they held a meeting. The two leaders focused on bilateral relations and explored avenues to strengthen ties in a manner that serves the interests and aspirations of the two countries and their brotherly peoples, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment spheres. Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the meeting discussed regional developments and means of restoring security and stability in the Middle East. The two sides underscored the critical importance of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an exchange of hostages and detainees. For his part, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed lauded Egypt's unyielding efforts since the outbreak of the crisis, in mediating a ceasefire agreement in the Strip, protecting the people of Gaza and striving to alleviate their dire humanitarian suffering. The two leaders affirmed the imperative of delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza in adequate quantities and without impediments, to save the people of the Strip from the dire humanitarian catastrophe.
