Air India and Icelandair sign codeshare deal for faster India-Europe connectivity

have signed a new codeshare agreement, according to the official statement by Air India's CEO and Managing Director
Campbell Wilson
. The codeshare agreement was shared during the 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) held in New Delhi.
The agreement will allow passengers to travel more easily across 15 routes in India and Europe. Air India customers can now book flights to Iceland's capital, Reykjavik, using Icelandair services via major European hubs. These hubs include London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, and Zurich. These flights will carry Air India's 'AI' flight code.
In return, Icelandair customers will gain access to Air India-operated flights to Indian cities. These include connections from Delhi to Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and London Heathrow, as well as from Mumbai to Frankfurt and London Heathrow. These flights will display Icelandair's 'FI' flight code.
Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson stated, 'We are happy to embark on this codeshare partnership with Icelandair, which unites two airlines committed to connecting the world. By combining our strengths, we are creating a seamless bridge between India's vibrant destinations and Iceland's extraordinary landscapes. This partnership underscores Air India's ambition to expand our global reach while offering Icelandair's customers seamless access to India's diverse destinations.'

Icelandair President and CEO Bogi Nils Bogason also participated in the announcement. Both airline heads expressed confidence that the partnership would support growing travel and trade between the two nations.

In pre-market European trading on Friday, they pared some of those losses, rising 5% after the Politico report that the two men were scheduled to speak. Mr. Musk had bankrolled a large part of Mr. Trump's presidential campaign and was then brought in as one of the president's most visible advisers, heading up a sweeping and controversial effort to downsize the federal workforce and slash spending. The verbal punches erupted on Thursday (June 5, 2025) after Mr. Trump criticised Mr. Musk in the Oval Office and the pair then traded barbs on their social media platforms: Mr. Trump's Truth Social and Mr. Musk's X. The falling-out had begun brewing days ago when Mr. Musk, who left his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency a week ago, denounced Mr. Trump's sweeping tax-cut and spending bill. The president initially stayed quiet while Mr. Musk campaigned to torpedo the bill, saying it would add too much to the nation's $36.2 trillion in debt. Mr. Trump broke his silence on Thursday, telling reporters he was "very disappointed" in Mr. Musk. Back and forth "Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," Mr. Trump said. As Mr. Trump spoke, Mr. Musk responded on X. "Without me, Trump would have lost the election," wrote Mr. Musk, who spent nearly $300 million backing Trump and other Republicans in last year's election. In another post, Mr. Musk asserted that Trump's signature import tariffs would push the U.S. into a recession later this year. "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts," Mr. Trump posted. Minutes after the closing bell, Mr. Musk replied, "Yes," to a post on X saying Trump should be impeached, something that would be highly unlikely given Mr. Trump's Republicans hold majorities in both chambers of Congress. Mr. Musk's businesses also include rocket company and government contractor SpaceX and its satellite unit Starlink. Mr. Musk, whose space business plays a critical role in the U.S. government's space program, said that as a result of Trump's threats he would begin decommissioning SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft. Dragon is the only U.S. spacecraft capable of sending astronauts to the International Space Station. Late on Thursday, Mr. Musk backed off the threat. In another sign of a possible detente to come, Mr. Musk subsequently wrote: "You're not wrong," in response to billionaire investor Bill Ackman saying Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk should make peace.

India-Sri Lanka defence dialogue discusses enhancing maritime security

Uber today released key 2024 trends for Uber Reserve, its pre-scheduled ride option, showing a sharp rise in usage across Indian cities as more riders explore the advance- travel-booking feature. Nearly one in four airport drop-offs now happen via Reserve, showing growing demand for certainty when timing matters most, with Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai leading in usage. Airport drop-offs were the primary use case for Reserve during 2024, with as much as 40% of overall Reserve trips ending at an airport. Beyond the airport use case, spikes in Reserve bookings were observed during wedding seasons, exam dates, and major festivals like Diwali, Eid, and Christmas, where the usage increased almost 15% ahead of public holidays. In terms of product adoption, Chennai led the charge during 2024, with the highest proportion of the overall trips being reserved ahead, followed by Bangalore and Hyderabad.
