Shyla Heal locks in WNBL homecoming with Geelong United
Point guard Shyla Heal will return to WNBL this season after announcing she has linked up with Geelong United.
It will be the latest stop in Heal's professional career, which includes a brief four-game stint with Chicago Sky in the WNBA after being the eighth pick in the 2021 draft.
The 23-year-old has recently played in Europe.
"I'm really excited to be a part of the club," Heal said in a statement.
"I feel like I've got an opportunity to help women's basketball to take a step forward and keep growing in Geelong and the outer regions.
"I had meetings with [head coach] Chris [Lucas] and the ownership and they really sold me on the club's vision.
"Chris is a very experienced coach and I'm excited to play for him."
It will be Heal's first WNBL campaign since 2022/23, when she abruptly left the Sydney Flames after bullying claims levelled at her father and coach Shane.
The messy exit between Shane Heal and the Flames landed in court, with the Australian basketball legend eventually awarded $5,000 over missing pay slips.
Shane Heal is familiar with the Geelong basketball community after a three-year stint at the now-defunct NBL club the Supercats between 1989 and 1991.
