Miley Cyrus Disappoints As Her New Single Launches Low

Miley Cyrus's 'End of the World' debuts on seven Billboard charts, but a No. 52 start on the Hot 100 ... More marks a slow beginning for her new era. Miley Cyrus has officially launched her new musical era, and while the excitement is palpable, the numbers aren't quite catching up just yet. The pop superstar has started promoting her upcoming full-length Something Beautiful, which is expected to drop on May 31. That rollout kicks off with 'End of the World,' the lead single from the project, which debuts on a number of Billboard charts this week.
Despite Cyrus' status as one of the most recognizable names in pop and the attention surrounding her return, the track is off to a relatively slow start in terms of U.S. consumption. Still, this could be just the beginning for the single, as well as for what's sure to be another high-profile album campaign.
'End of the World' launches on seven different Billboard rankings this frame. The tune performs best when it comes to pure purchases and radio airplay, particularly on pop-focused stations.
But when taking a look at the title's overall initial showing, its arrival may not be quite what Cyrus or her label were hoping for. The track opens at No. 52 on the Hot 100, the main list that ranks the most-consumed songs in America using a combination of sales, streams, and airplay. For a heavily-promoted release that serves as the first taste of a new, much-hyped era, failing to crack even the top half of the Hot 100 is a little troubling.
To put that debut into perspective, consider how her last chapter began. 'Flowers,' the Grammy-winning lead single from Cyrus' previous album Endless Summer Vacation, opened at No. 1 on the Hot 100. It ended up staying in charge for eight weeks.
Since then, several other Cyrus releases have easily reached the top 10 on that chart, including 'Used to Be Young' and her collaboration with Beyoncé, 'II Most Wanted.' Both of those tracks launched inside the highest tier on the Hot 100.
Cyrus' new cut is only the fourth-highest debut on the Hot 100 this week, though it may have been one of the most discussed onlone. She trails a pair of relative newcomers, as BigXthaPlug and Bailey Zimmerman team up for 'All the Way,' which lands all the way at No. 4 — a massive opening for the rising stars. Ed Sheeran's 'Azizam' appears at No. 28, while hard rock outfit Sleep Token manages to kick off its latest, 'Caramel,' at No. 34.
Even though 'End of the World' didn't perform especially well on the Hot 100, it does notch a solid placement on one of Billboard's sales-focused tallies. The track debuts at No. 12 on the Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the bestselling songs in the U.S. based on paid downloads. According to Luminate, the cut sold 2,600 purchases in its first seven days of availability.
Radio also gives the track an early lift, as it earns a healthy debut on all three of Billboard's pop-focused airplay charts. Programmers seem optimistic about the tune's potential, as it's an instant top 40 on the trio of tallies.
While domestic performance is mixed, the story isn't much better internationally. 'End of the World' failed to reach the top 40 on either of the company's major worldwide rankings—the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S.
Something Beautiful is set to arrive on May 31, and 'End of the World' is supposed to serve as its foundation. She's also released two other tracks, a prelude and the title tune, with the latter reaching one of Billboard's rock lists this time around – though even that start is fairly low.

Miley Cyrus Heckled at Something Beautiful Film Premiere: 'Thought This Was a Concert!'

The post Miley Cyrus Heckled at Something Beautiful Film Premiere: 'Thought This Was a Concert!' appeared first on Consequence. On Friday night, Miley Cyrus premiered the film component of her newly released visual album, Something Beautiful, at the Tribeca Film Festival. The event was promoted as a 'one-of-a-kind pop opera featuring thirteen original new songs,' with an exclusive conversation with the singer to follow. However, some fans misread the message that it was a movie premiere and loudly heckled her while she was on stage. 'We thought this was a concert! We paid $800!' one audience member can be heard saying in a video posted on social media. Despite the host reminding them that the event was part of a film festival, they persisted and asked, 'Are you actually going to sing?'After more misinformed fans chimed in, Cyrus pacified them with an a cappella version of her 2009 song 'The Climb.' A comment on Cyrus' Instagram could provide insight into why some fans didn't realize they were attending a movie premiere. 'I bought my tickets [off StubHub] and it said MILEY CYRUS LIVE. It wasn't clear that it wasn't a concert so yea, for 1200 bucks for 2 crappy far away seats to see a movie and not hear any live music and not even knowing it until I saw chairs on the stage, yea I was livid and felt duped… I'll admit maybe it was my mistake for not doing more research but I will say that afterward there were several other people outside saying the same thing.' Fans will be able to watch the Something Beautiful visual album in theaters for one night only on June 12th in the US and Canada, with international screenings following on June 27th. Miley Cyrus Tried to Keep a ‘Happy Home' With Liam Hemsworth by Changing Her Image

On Thursday, Miley Cyrus made a revealing and rare comment on her former relationship with her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, while discussing her music career on the Every Single Album podcast. During the interview, Cyrus first mentioned Hemsworth in relation to their film The Last Song, which filmed in 2009. 'That's where I met Liam, who I would go on to marry and write a ton of—or, most of—my songs about,' Cyrus said, adding, 'Talk about catching strays,' in reference to how her songs have referred to their relationship in both positive and negative ways. While talking about her 'Younger Now' era, Cyrus brought up her relationship to Hemsworth again and how she embraced 'innocence' in her image as a way to reconnect with him in her personal life. 'When me and Liam split up the first time with 'Bangerz' because I was this provocateur, like, highly sexualized,' she shared. 'For 'Younger Now', the reason I kind of played into this innocence was because I think it was a way to keep—a way to stay—by being younger now and a less sexualized woman publicly, and this was a way to keep a happy home.' Cyrus and Hemsworth were off-and-on from 2010 to 2012, then got married in 2018. But they split up before finishing one year of marriage. Hemsworth went on to date model Gabriella Brooks, while Cyrus is currently seeing singer Maxx Morando. During the podcast, Cyrus also briefly discussed her ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, saying when they split up in 2009, she saw the singer as a 'dick' and 'asshole' who 'dumped' her. 'He's still catching strays,' she joked. But she added that things were all good now, saying, 'I like Nick… I'm into him.. he's like married with children, we're all moving on. NILEY for life!'

Chiquis Writes Her First Children's Book & More Uplifting Moments in Latin Music

From career milestones to new music releases to major announcements and those little important moments, Billboard editors highlight uplifting moments in Latin music. Here's what happened in the Latin music world this week. Earlier this year, Chiquis announced she was writing her first-ever children's book called The Girl Who Sings to Bees. This week, fans can pre-order the book set to hit shelves and online stores on July 15. Filled with life lessons that include healing, grief and confronting bullying, the book 'honors the relationship she had with her mom, finding solace from her grief in their shared love of music by singing to the bees in her abuelita's garden and the power to find her voice despite fear and bullying from peers,' according to a press release. The Girl Who Sings to Bees will go on sale in July and will be available for purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target, to name a few. Fans can pre-order here. Set to empower female tattoo artists, the weeklong program — helmed by tattoo artists Javi Cinco Ángeles and Juan Ramón RC and taking place in late August — will offer 40 hours of hands-on training and mentorship, where participants will learn the history of tattooing, techniques and aftercare procedures. Women living in Mexico City between the ages of 22 and 40 can apply now through July 1, by visiting the foundation's website. 'Patria y Vida,' the liberty anthem that fueled a new Cuban revolution and won two Latin Grammys in 2021, has become a full-length documentary set to hit U.S. theaters on July 11 via Spanglish Movies. Directed by Beatriz Luengo and starring Yotuel, the film features notable musical figures including Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Camila Cabello, Gente de Zona and Billboard's Leila Cobo. The song — penned by Yotuel (formerly of hip-hop group Orishas), Luengo, Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom (of Gente de Zona) and Descemer Bueno, and features Cuban voices from within the island, Maykel Osorbo and rapper El Funky — became the anthem of anti-government protests in Cuba. 'I felt we needed to show the two realities: those of us who live outside Cuba, and those who are still on the island, who live the streets there,' Yotuel previously told Billboard. Watch the trailer below: SiriusXM has launched the Siempre Selena radio channel, where for a limited time, fans will enjoy the Queen of Tejano's biggest hits. As part of the channel and ahead of its 30th anniversary, Suzette Quintanilla (sister of the late singer and Los Dinos member), opened up about Selena's Dreaming of You album, released posthumously, and which made history as the first predominately Spanish-language album to ever debut at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 in 1995. 'When Dreaming of You came out I didn't care,' Quintanilla expressed on the radio show. 'I was too much lost in my grief. I didn't know day or night, I didn't care about anything. And then I learned to love it and to understand what it represents. It hurt for a very long time to be able to listen to this album, but as time went by, I embraced that this is what sister left behind. This was her not completely fulfilling her dream of doing a whole album, but it's OK because at least we got this.' The Siempre Selena channel is available through July 3 on the SiriusXM app, and on satellite channel 79 from June 4 to 10.
