A lavish new immersive Titanic exhibition is coming to London this summer
One of the more pleasant surprises of the year has been that Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition you see advertised everywhere. Yeah, it's kind of basic, but in a really high tech way, with all sorts of fun VR and immersive film bits and bobs that certainly offer a good two hours of distraction for younger audiences.
And now we're getting a sister exhibition. Admittedly the story of the Titanic may be less appealing to tween audiences, but adults obsessed with the doomed ship should be in heaven with the lavish The Legend of the Titanic: The Immersive Exhibition, which comes to Canada Water events space Dock X this summer.
Although it will presumably lack the balls-tripping weirdness of the many sections of Tutankhamun devoted to the Egyptian afterlife, there will be plenty of immersion to get immersed in: we're promised an augmented reality recreation of Southampton harbour, actual recreations of first and third class cabins, historical artefacts (original and replicas), a VR tribute to the ship's famously determined orchestra, an immersive film charting the ship's voyage and a '5D metaverse featuring interactive elements and 5D sensory experiences, including simulated smells and a realistic reconstruction of the different classes and areas of the ship'. There's also a child-friendly activity room and Café de Parisien, a replica of the on-board cafe serving food and drink.

Romy Mars, 18, dropped the song and music video this week, with A-Lister's lyrics talking about how empty fame and fortune actually is. She croons in the first verse: 'Grant all of my wishes, riches to riches, and one day I'll be bored with everything that I've got. 'Get out of fancy clothes right after they get the shot, Recreate scenes from Titanic on a flying bridge yacht.' Romy knows the feeling better than most thanks to her famous family on both sides of her genetic line. Her mother, Sofia Coppola, is a film director best known for Lost in Translation and Virgin Suicides. She follows in the footsteps of her own father, the legendary Godfather director, Francis Ford Coppola. Romy's father is French musician and Phoenix frontman, Thomas Mars, whom Sofia met on the set of the Virgin Suicides in 1999 but got together with in the late 2000's. The pair have been married since 2011, and have two daughters, Romy and Cosima, both of whom have picked up their creative flair. In the accompanying music video, Romy is seen being primped and pampered for a photoshoot, in between scenes of a runaway marriage, fighting through a crowd of paparazzi cameras, and spending a day by a pool in a mansion. Actors Brian Cox, Mark Ruffalo and Bill Nighy are among celebrities calling on Keir Starmer to do more to secure Alaa Abd el-Fattah's freedom as his mum fights for her life in hospital Celebrities Brian Cox, Mark Ruffalo and Bill Nighy have pleaded with Keir Starmer to do more to free an imprisoned Brit whose hunger-striking mum is fighting for her life. The trio are among supporters - also including Harry Potter star Emily Watson and actor Joseph Fiennes - who have written to the PM demanding tougher action to secure Alaa Abd el-Fattah's freedom. They warn it is "almost too late" to save his mother, Dr Laila Soueif, who was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital in London last week. Pro-democracy writer Alaa is behind bars in Egypt, despite his heavily-criticised prison sentence expiring in September last year. Dr Soueif, who has not eaten for 246 days, has lost more than seven stone, and has dangerously low blood sugar. Medics warn the 69-year-old is at risk of sudden death as her condition worsens. In their letter, supporters told the PM they are "watching with dismay as Dr. Laila Soueif risks death to save her son". The letter continues: "Alaa should never have been imprisoned in the first place. He is an internationally respected writer and a brave advocate for democracy. He has now lost over ten years of his life to the prison cell. His most recent prison sentence expired on September 29 2024 - yet he is still behind bars." And they conclude: "Prime Minister, we are asking you to take bold, immediate action to save her life and to re-unite Alaa with his family. It is almost too late." Succession star Mr Cox has previously called on the PM to "pick up the phone" to Egyptian Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and negotiate Alaa's release. And Hulk actor Mr Ruffalo is a longstanding supporter of the campaign to free him. Alaa was sentenced to five years in prison in 2019 for "spreading fake news" after criticising the Egyptian government. His family are desperate to get him back to the UK, where he has a 13-year-old son, Khaled, living in Brighton. On Sunday Dr Souif told the PM: 'Mr Starmer, you have told me that you are committed to doing everything to secure Alaa's release, but Alaa is still in prison so obviously what you are doing is not the best that can be done.' She told LBC Radio: 'I said from the beginning, I will continue until either Alaa has been released or my health collapses completely.' She met with Mr Starmer in February, when the PM gave his "personal commitment" to securing Alaa's release. He has spoken to the Egyptian President twice pressing for him to be freed. The UN last week said Aala is being arbitrarily detained - placing an obligation on Egypt to release him immediately under international law. A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are deeply concerned by Laila's hospitalisation. "We remain in regular contact with Laila's family and have checked on her welfare. We are committed to securing Alaa Abd El-Fattah's release. "The Foreign Secretary stressed the urgency of the situation in a call with his counterpart on Sunday morning, and further engagement at the highest levels of the Egyptian government continues.'

Lovers of Egyptian history are in for a treat as an immersive exhibition taking visitors back thousands of years comes to Glasgow History lovers are in for a treat this summer as Glasgow prepares to welcome Tutankhamun: The Immersive Exhibition, an extraordinary journey through ancient Egypt that promises to captivate with both authentic artefacts and cutting-edge technology. Opening at the SEC on July 24, this spectacular show follows a sell-out 14-week run in London and invites visitors to explore the mysteries of the famous pharaoh and his era like never before. Spanning six creatively designed galleries, the exhibition showcases a remarkable collection of original artefacts dating back as far as 4000 BC, Glasgow Live reports. Highlights include a funerary shabti from the 20th Dynasty that was once part of Howard Carter's private collection, alongside statuettes and vases from the reigns of Tutankhamun and Ramses II and III. Visitors will also encounter meticulously crafted replicas and facsimiles displayed in a curated 'treasure room' that brings Egypt's ancient heritage vividly to life. One of the exhibition's standout features is a vast 360-degree projection covering 1,200 square metres, transporting guests through Egypt's rich history, stunning landscapes, and cultural heritage. A virtual reality experience allows visitors to journey into the mystical Egyptian afterlife, while a hologram room vividly reveals the entire mummification process of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The exhibition's immersive narrative is further enriched by a recorded interview with Howard Carter, the famed British archaeologist who discovered Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. An interactive digital metaverse walk-through of the Valley of the Kings completes the experience, offering a chance to explore Carter's basecamp and relive the monumental discovery in full glory. To top off the journey, visitors can have their photograph taken in an AI photo booth that transforms them into a citizen of ancient Egypt, a perfect memento of a remarkable day. Designed with families, schools, history enthusiasts and tech fans in mind, the 90-minute experience blends educational displays, historical documents, original artefacts and immersive storytelling. The bespoke soundtrack, performed by an orchestra, further enhances the magic, drawing visitors into the world of ancient Egypt like never before. Having already dazzled over 1.9 million visitors across cities including Madrid, Hamburg, Cairo, Sao Paulo, Barcelona, Vienna and Malmö, this award-winning exhibition has earned three Telly Awards and is a product of a unique collaboration with the History Channel.
