Investigators said the victim showed them the Facebook page used to contact him and identified the silver Audi, which was also listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. While reviewing the Marketplace ad for the Audi, one of the officers investigating the case recognized the apartment complex in a photo of the car as the Lackland Plaza Apartments. Police eventually located and identified the vehicle at the apartment complex. The following day, an officer observed Mesgna behind the wheel of the Audi as he pulled into the apartment complex. Police said the officer attempted to pull the Audi over, but Mesgna fled. Mesgna sped through multiple red lights and drove into oncoming traffic to evade authorities, at speeds topping 100 miles per hour. Police said Mesgna crashed the Audi in the 3000 block of North Taylor Avenue. The pursuing officer found Mesgna hiding in dumpster behind a home on N. Taylor. Officers found an AR-15 in the trunk of the Audi. The handgun used in the robbery was located between the driver's seat and center console. Police said Mesgna admitted to the robbery and said he hid the watch. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Mesgna with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, and aggravated fleeing a stop or detention. Mesgna remains jailed on a $250,000 cash-only bond. He's scheduled to appear at a bond reduction hearing on June 23, with a preliminary hearing slated for Thursday, July 17.
