One person arrested after shooting incident in Arctic Bay, Nunavut
A 24-year-old man is in custody after an incident in Arctic Bay, Nunavut that caused the RCMP to send out an alert warning residents of an active shooter on May 8.
The alert told residents to lock their doors, shelter in place, and stay away from windows.
Denis Lambe, the assistant criminal operations officer with the Nunavut RCMP, told CBC News the man fired several times in the community, injuring one person.
"That person was treated at the health centre in Arctic Bay for non-life threatening injuries," Lambe said.
No RCMP officers were injured, Lambe said, but all were flown out temporarily for respite. RCMP brought in relief officers from Iqaluit in the meantime.
Lambe said the entire incident lasted around 40 minutes.
He also said a member of the person's family helped with the arrest.
"In this case, family members did approach the male and disarmed him," Lambe said. "It did assist us, but we didn't ask the person to go and do that."
The person in custody now faces four charges, including two counts of attempted murder and two counts of discharging a firearm with intent, with other charges pending.

Montreal police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. ‘Tragic' boating collision under investigation in North Vancouver

Mounties are yet to provide an update. On social media, District of North Vancouver Mayor Mike Little asked anyone who witnessed the incident to call the RCMP's non-emergency line.
