SteamOS now officially supports a second handheld

Engadget22-05-2025

Valve officially added support for the Lenovo Legion Go S in its latest SteamOS release . The handheld, which begins shipping this weekend , is the first hardware other than the Steam Deck to formally run Valve's gaming-centric operating system.
Valve has been laying the groundwork to bring SteamOS to more devices. Earlier in the month, it introduced a separate verification program to show players when a game is supported by the operating system. While the Legion Go S is the only third-party handheld to have official support, the patch notes for the recent update note that there is now "improved support for other AMD powered handhelds (like the ROG Ally and original Legion Go)."
Another standout item in the software update is the introduction of SteamOS support for the Proteus Controller . This is a nifty modular gamepad that can be arranged to address players' individual accessibility needs.

I tried the Acer Swift X 14 and it may be the creator laptop to beat — and the RTX 5070 GPU isn't why

Acer has plenty of innovative devices to show off this year, including its FreeSense smart ring and AI translation earbuds, but one thing that I didn't expect to catch my eye is its new lineup of premium creator laptops. Coming in two flavors, the latest Acer Swift X 14 (2025) laptops first drew me in with their impressive slate of specs, including the selection of AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 or Intel Core Ultra 9 285 CPUs, RTX 5070 GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 2TB for storage. Oh, and that stunning 14.5-inch 3K (2880x1800) OLED touchscreen is a welcome sight. For creators and even gamers, what's not to like? But it wasn't until I tried out the Swift X 14 that I realized it offers more than just powerful internals. This laptop boasts a nifty trick right on its touchpad that many designers, photo editors, artists and even doodlers will appreciate. Revealed at Computex 2025, Both Swift X 14 models come with a large haptic touchpad that supports a stylus. It's a simple idea, but one that goes a long way when drawing or editing images in Photoshop, designing 3D models or creating a masterpiece in Microsoft Paint. We've seen many laptops with brilliant creator-friendly tools, like the Asus ProArt P16 and its handy DialPad, but the Swift X 14 evolves the touchpad for new ways to create — effectively turning it into a canvas. With the power it packs, could it be in the running for one of the best laptops for video editing? Possibly, but after my brief hands-on, it's certainly one for creators to keep an eye on. Acer Swift X 14 Acer Swift X 14 AI Starting price €1,799 €1,799 Display 14.5-inch 3K (2880x1800) OLED touchscreen 14.5-inch 3K (2880x1800) OLED touchscreen CPU Up to Intel Core Ultra 9 285 Up to AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Memory Up to 32GB Up to 32GB Storage Up to 1 TB SSD Up to 1 TB SSD Webcam 1080p w/ IR 1080p w/ IR Ports 2x Thunderbolt 4, 2x USB-A, HDMI, MicroSD 2x USB-C, 2x USB-A, HDMI, MicroSD, headphone jack Size 12.69 x 8.95 x 0.71 in 12.69 x 8.95 x 0.71 in Weight 3.48 lbs 3.46 lbs Let's get this out of the way; Acer's creator-focused laptop comes in two models — the Acer Swift X 14 and Swift X 14 AI. The only real difference between the two is that the former sports an Intel chip while the latter with an "AI" moniker comes with AMD. Otherwise, you're getting the same sleek, minimalist laptop no matter what you choose. More importantly, both laptops come with sizable haptic touchpads with Corning Gorilla Glass and MPP 2.5 tilt-enables stylus support. While I used Acer's own stylus during my time with the Swift X 14, it means any stylus can be used on the laptop's touchpad. Being able to choose your own digital pencil is always a welcome option. Once I put pen to, er, touchpad in Paint, it felt extremely smooth to glide over the surface to draw a line. But once I lifted the stylus off, I realized I had completely lost track of where the cursor was to continue my drawing. "Well, that's a massive oversight," I thought, as not being able know where the cursor will be placed on screen as you draw on the touchpad defeats the purpose of sketching anything. However, this wasn't the case. By hovering the stylus over the touchpad, you can see where the cursor is onscreen and drag it to where you want. This way, I could pinpoint where I wanted to draw, only touching the touchpad's surface with the tip of the stylus when I want to input an action. It's not the same as directly drawing on a touchscreen (which the Swift X 14 doesn't offer due to the screen only supporting finger-based touch), so it took me some time to get used to it. But once I got the hang of it, I could easily doodle a quick smiley face. Interestingly, this isn't the only Acer laptop arriving that supports a stylus on its haptic touchpad. Just like the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI, the haptics delivered tactile feedback so I knew when something was being pressed down. I couldn't imagine using this method to jot down notes, as it isn't intuitive enough since I had to keep adjusting the cursor via the touchpad. But I can imagine this would come in handy for sketching or touching up images in apps, thanks to the accuracy and smooth precision the touchpad offers with the stylus. As with the Acer Swift 14 AI I reviewed, the company has nailed the lightweight design with its Swift lineup, and that's no different for the new Swift X 14 laptops. However, these latest creator laptops take it up a notch with a unique feature that designers can utilize. Compared to the previous Swift X 14 sporting an RTX 4050, Acer delivers a significant graphics boost with its latest creator laptop. Now that it boasts up to an RTX 5070 (with the latest Nvidia Studio Drivers right out the box), you can expect faster AI-driven tasks when video editing and make the most out of bringing photos to like in apps like Photoshop. As we've tested, an RTX 50-series GPU can do wonders for content creation, and having that sort of power in a creator-focused laptop means the graphics card can be used for more than just gaming. I wasn't able to test its abilities during my time with the Swift X 14 (Microsoft Paint isn't exactly demanding...), but considering it can also access DLSS 4 for accelerated graphics processing, power users will get a kick out of its speed. One feature that's yet to be tested is Nvidia's NIM (Nvidia Inference Microservices) through its Project R2X, letting users build AI agents and streamline workflows in various programs. That includes creator-focused apps, meaning it can be used as a guide to work out how to edit a background in a photo or used to autonomously work through video editing tasks. How will this perform on Acer's Swift X 14? It's still up in the air, but once we get to test this laptop out, we'll get a better gauge on how it all works. The Acer Swift X 14 and 14 AI are set to be available this July in Europe, with prices starting at €1,799. There's no word of official release dates or prices for the rest of the world (tariffs may be to blame), but if RTX 50-series gaming laptop prices are anything to go by, expect the laptops to be around the $1,999 / £1,999. I still need more time to try it out, but once I got the hang of navigating the stylus around its touchpad, I was drawing away with ease. For now, it looks like the Swift X 14 and 14 AI are already looking to be a great shout for those creators on the go. Only getting to grips with drawing with tech? You'll want to try out this Meta Quest VR app that taught me how to draw.

Options Market Signals Bullish Impetus on AMD Stock

While investors generally think in terms of months if not years, options traders think in terms of weeks, maybe even days or hours. Trading can be rewarding because of the speed and leverage involved. At the same time, the practice tends to be awfully binary — you either win big or you lose your entire principle. If you can handle the heat in the kitchen, you'll want to keep close tabs on Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Easily unpack a company's performance with TipRanks' new KPI Data for smart investment decisions Receive undervalued, market resilient stocks right to your inbox with TipRanks' Smart Value Newsletter As one of the top semiconductor giants, Advanced Micro Devices, has skyrocketed over the past several years due to the emergence of innovative sectors such as cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence. That said, economic challenges and broad competitive pressures have weighed on AMD stock. Since the start of this year, shares are still down about 9%. At the same time, AMD popped over 14% in the trailing month, reflecting a tech sector recovery. Within the raw price discovery process, market breadth data suggests that AMD stock can continue taking this positive momentum to higher ground. As a result, I'm taking a bullish position on AMD stock. As traders, we're looking for the how of the market — how much, how fast, and most importantly, how likely. We're not so much concerned about the why. With options trading, we're dealing with empirical probabilities. It's what makes the practice so rewarding but also incredibly risky. If you can handle the heat, below is the game plan on extracting quick alpha from AMD stock. As stated earlier, options trading focuses on the how of the market, and the most important how is how likely. In mathematical terms, we're looking for the probability of a particular outcome materializing over a defined time period. Every options strategy starts with a baseline probability canvas, if you will, and this canvas is functionally crafted by a rise over run equation. For example, to discover the likelihood of AMD stock rising over any given one-week period, you take the number of positive weeks and divide it by the total number of weeks in the dataset. In AMD's case, the long-side ratio is 55.26%. Colloquially speaking, a bullish trader at any given moment has a 5.26% advantage over a coin toss. That's a small but powerful edge. Unless you have compelling evidence to the contrary, you're better off placing a long-side debit-based wager on AMD stock. Stated differently, you're incentivized to pay a premium for the right to bet on a particular outcome materializing (i.e., that AMD rises). Another factor that plays into the optimists' hands is the baseline performance metric. It's not just that AMD stock features a 55% long-side success ratio. Instead, when shares rise over that one-week period, the average return is 4.1%. That's awfully robust, making the semiconductor firm a tempting proposition. From a market breadth perspective, though, circumstances are even more enticing. In the past two months, AMD stock printed a '6-4-U' sequence: six up weeks, four down weeks, with a net positive trajectory across the 10-week period. Notably, in nearly 57% of cases, the following week's price action resulted in upside, with a median return of 4.41%. If the implications of the 6-4-U sequence play out over this coming week, it's well within reason that AMD stock could reach above $115. Should the bulls continue to maintain control of the market, it could eventually hit $117 to $120. To be fair, the difference between a long-side success ratio of 55% and 57% is small. Nevertheless, the framework enhances the incentivization profile of AMD stock in that a bullish debit-based approach empirically represents the most feasible approach. With the above market intelligence, aggressive traders seeking a quick profit may consider the 114/115 bull call spread expiring June 6. This transaction involves buying the $114 call and simultaneously selling the $115 call, for a net debit paid of $37. Should AMD stock rise through the short strike price at expiration, the maximum reward is $63, a payout of over 170%. What makes this trade so tempting is the statistical response to the 6-4-U market breadth sequence. Within a one-week period, AMD stock could rise above the $115 mark. If so, that would be enough to trigger the short strike price. Further, the June 6 expiration date would provide an extra week for the forecast to pan out. Turning to Wall Street, AMD stock has a Moderate Buy consensus rating based on 22 Buys, nine Holds, and zero Sell ratings. The average AMD price target is $126.55, implying 14.72% upside potential. As circumstances stand, Advanced Micro Devices natively enjoys an upward bias. Essentially, a bullish trader enjoys a 5% edge over a coin toss. Thanks to a specific market breadth sequence, though, this advantage has improved to 7%, along with a bump up in median performance. Taken as a whole, there is an incentive to consider a long-side debit-based options strategy. Can the Steam Deck Run Elden Ring Nightreign?

Elden Ring Nightreign is the new multiplayer title from developer FromSoftware. It features the same combat as Elden Ring, but is a unique type of game. Players can adventure solo or in groups of three to try and defeat the Nightlord in short online matches, which could make it a perfect game for the Steam Deck. Portable gaming devices like the Steam Deck continue to gain in popularity as gamers want to take their favorite PC games on the go. A game like Elden Ring Nightreign is intended for short runs, meaning it won't be a big drain on the battery while playing. However, with all new games, there is a question of whether it will run on the Steam Deck. Is Elden Ring Nightreign Steam Deck verified? As of right now, Elden Ring Nightreign is not Steam Deck verified, but it very likely will be when it launches. Being Steam Deck verified means the game has controller support, works with the default resolution of the Steam Deck, has no compatibility issues, and supports the Steam Deck Proton system. However, being verified doesn't necessarily mean the game will run well. There are some games that are not Steam Deck verified that can still be played on the handheld, but they aren't a seamless experience. What are the Elden Ring Nightreign specs? Here are the minimum and recommended specs for Elden Ring Nightreign: Elden Ring Nightreign Minimum Recommended CPU Intel Core i5-10600 or AMD RYZEN 5 5500 Intel Core i5-11500 or AMD RYZEN 5 5600 GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB or AMD Radeon RX Vega-56 8GB RAM 12GB 16GB Storage 30GB 30GB Windows Windows 10 Windows 11 And here are the specs for the Steam Deck: Steam Deck Specs CPU Zen 2 4c/8t, 2.4–3.5GHz RAM 16GB LPDDR5 GPU 8 RDNA 2 CUs, 1.6GHz Storage Up to 2TB Can the Steam Deck Run Elden Ring Nightreign? Yes, and quite easily. I was able to do a few runs of Nightreign with the Steam Deck and didn't experience any slowdowns or other graphical issues while playing. It makes sense that it was able to handle the game, as it uses the original Elden Ring engine, which didn't strain most computers when it came out in 2022. There is, however, a catch. Nightreign servers require a certain level of system performance for multiplayer, and if that isn't met, you'll be locked into single-player mode. This requirement is likely due to the game's anticheat tech. Back in February, developer FromSoftware updated the Nightreign SteamDB page, confirming that the game would include anticheat software. This could mean that portable gaming devices not running Windows, like the Steam Deck or computers using Linux, may have an issue participating in multiplayer matches. Elden Ring Nightreign launches on May 30 for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles for $40. Owning the original Elden Ring is not required to play this game.
