Eva man on bond for drug possession arrested again in Priceville for drug trafficking
Jun. 2—On Sunday, police arrested an Eva man who was out on bail for drug possession and charged him with dangerous drug trafficking after fentanyl and methamphetamine were found in his vehicle, according to the Priceville Police Department.
Christopher Stephen Shadix, 56, was being held without bail in the Morgan County Jail and was also charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
At about 11:30 p.m., police said officers initiated a traffic stop at Mountain Valley Road and Point Mallard Parkway. Police then began a narcotics field investigation and used their K9 to search Shadix's vehicle.
"The ensuing search revealed a mixture of fentanyl and methamphetamine, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia, including digital scales, within the vehicle," police said.
On August 26, 2023, Shadix was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute after he was found with 26 grams of a controlled substance after a traffic stop in Somerville, according to an affidavit signed by a Priceville police officer. His jury trial for that case is scheduled to begin Oct. 20 before Morgan County Circuit Judge Jennifer Howell.

Nevada County Sheriff's Office K9 helps seize narcotics and a firearm in Grass Valley
( —A K9 search led to an arrest and seizure of narcotics and a firearm on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, with the help of the Grass Valley Police Department, two individuals were arrested for multiple serious drug offenses at around 4:30 p.m. following an investigative stop in the parking lot of a business on Hughes Road. NCSO stated that the suspects have been identified as Kalen Turner, 34, of Nevada City, and Katriena Mulligan, 24, of Grass Valley. NCSO Deputy Ramos and her K9 partner Riggs were on patrol going down East Main Street in Grass Valley, where she saw a suspicious vehicle backing into a car wash but not utilizing the facility. The deputy recognized the vehicle from a prior criminal investigation of drug and property crimes in Nevada County, according to officials. Deputy Ramos conducted a visual surveillance of the vehicle at the business and contacted GVPD since it was within their jurisdiction. Rep. After 20 minutes, the NCSO deputy and GVPD officers saw Mulligan arrive driving a 2007 white Scion and contact Turner, the driver of the Ford Focus, according to NCSO. Both of them drove to a convenience store on Hughes Road, where they parked together behind the businesses and away from the view of the road. NCSO said, 'Detectives were able to position themselves to continue to watch Turner and Mulligan, who then proceeded to complete a 'hand-to-hand' transaction witnessed by the officers.' NCSO Deputy Ramos and GVPD officers conducted a stop on the suspects' vehicles in the parking lot, where narcotics and drug paraphernalia were seen in plain view, according to authorities. At this time, both of the vehicles were searched, yielding the discovery and seizure of fentanyl and paraphernalia from each of the cars and in addition to indicia commonly used in illicit drug sales. This also included a scale and packaging materials in Turner's car, according to NCSO. K9 Riggs is trained and POST certified in narcotics detection and was deployed to search the vehicles, where he detected narcotics in both of the vehicles, NCSO stated. Riggs also alerted to the engine compartment of Turner's vehicle, where crews found 90 rounds of ammunition and a handgun under the hood. Both of the drivers, Mulligan and Turner, were booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on multiple drug charges, NCSO stated. Authorities said that Turner is being charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a controlled substance with two or more prior convictions. At this time, there was no mention of what Mulligan is being charged with. Father-Daughter Tragedy: Second Hiker Found Dead on Mt. Katahdin
Mount Katahdin in Maine is most famous for being the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, but this week, the area became a tragic focal point. A father and daughter from New York went missing on the mountain while hiking over the weekend. After 3 days of searching, both bodies have been found, according to authorities with Baxter State Park, where the mountain is located. Esther Keiderling, 28, and her father, Tim Keiderling, 58, were visiting Baxter State Park in Millinocket and had planned to hike to the 5,270-foot summit of Mt. Katahdin. They were last seen on the morning of Sunday, June 1, after leaving Abol Campground, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW). Park authorities said rangers began searching for the pair on Monday after the Keiderlings' vehicle was found still parked in the day-use parking lot. They began with the Abol and Hunt Trails, both popular routes for summiting Katahdin, and searched the Katahdin Tablelands. On Tuesday, Baxter State Park rangers expanded the search, assisted by more than 30 game wardens, including the Maine Warden Service Search and Rescue team and Maine Warden Service K9 Team. Maine Forest Service provided aerial support with three helicopters, and the Maine Army National Guard also assisted with Blackhawk and Lakota helicopters fitted with infrared thermal imaging devices. That afternoon, the K9 team located the body of Tim Keiderling on the Tableland, near the summit, according to park authorities. Teams continued to search the area for Esther, which carried over into today. A team of 25 game wardens, four K9 teams, and 21 rangers announced that at 1:00 p.m., the body of Esther Keiderling was identified in a wooded area of the Tablelands. Second missing hiker found dead on Maine trail, one day after crews locate her father's body
A second missing hiker has been found dead on a hiking trail in Maine, one day after search crews found her father's body, state officials said Wednesday. Esther Keiderling of New York had gone missing Sunday while hiking near the summit of Mount Katahdin with her father Tim Keiderling, also of New York, Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife officials said in a statement. Her body was found around 1 p.m. Wednesday off the Tablelands, in a wooded area between two known trails. Tim Keiderling's body was located Tuesday on the Tablelands area of Mount Katahdin. A massive search for the missing father and daughter began earlier this week. Crews searched Mount Katahdin both on the ground and from the air. Wednesday's search involved 25 game wardens, four game warden K9 teams, and 21 Baxter State Park rangers who searched the mountain. Maine Forest Service helicopters and Maine Army Guard helicopters also assisted in the search and with transporting crews to the summit. On Tuesday night, the Maine Army National Guard used a Lokota helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging device (FLIR unit) to search from early evening well into the night.
