Bill Murray regrets turning down the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood.
During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show this week, the Ghostbuster star revealed that he once called the famed actor-director "out of the blue" about working together because he felt Eastwood always gave his on-screen sidekicks "a great part" and "a great death scene".
However, Eastwood was working on an "enormous" Navy idea, but Murray didn't want to do another military movie after making the 1981 Army-based film Stripes.
"When he said, 'Would you ever want to do another service comedy?' like jeez, 'Would I become like (comedy duo) Abbott and Costello?'" Murray quipped. "I had to do like military movies? And I said, 'Well, God, I guess maybe I shouldn't.'"
The Groundhog Day star later came to regret his decision.
"It's one of the few regrets I have is that I didn't do it. Because it was a big-scale thing, and I would have gotten a great - I don't know if I'd have gotten a great death scene, it was more of a comedy that one - but it was great," he admitted. "He had access to World War II boats and he could have like made a flotilla and stuff, and there was some cool stuff in it."
While the "very resilient" Eastwood is "certainly well over" Murray turning down his film, the 74-year-old still feels bad about it.
"When I see him, I'm like, 'I'm sorry, I wish I'd done that Clint, I'm really sorry,'" he shared.
While Murray did not state the film, it is most likely the 1986 war comedy Heartbreak Ridge, which Eastwood directed and starred in as a U.S. Marine.

Tait's admission comes nearly a week after his bandmates released their own statement addressing the allegations highlighted in a years-long investigation by Christian media outlet The Roys Report. Three men, who were all 22 at the time of their encounters, told the outlet that Tait befriended them and later engaged in non-consensual sexual acts with them. Tait made friends with the men while on tour in 2004, 2010 and 2014, according to The Roys Report. "Last night, our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait," the Nashville-based band shared in a June 5 statement. "While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications." The statement continued: "First and foremost, our hearts are with the victims who have bravely shared their stories. If you are a victim, we urge you to come forward. We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault." Who is Michael Tait? Tait was the former lead singer of Australian-formed Christian rock band Newsboys. The four-time Grammy-award winning vocalist replaced original member Peter Furler as the group's new lead vocalist in 2009. Tait officially left the group in January 2025 after 15 years. Before he performed with Newsboys, Tait was a founding member of DC Talks, a Christian rap and rock trio, that released five major studio albums together. Newsboys 'horrified, heartbroken, and angry' by report Tait's bandmates were "horrified, heartbroken, and angry" to learn of the accusations made in the report, writing in the statement that they felt as though they and their families were "deceived for the last fifteen years." "The four of us are husbands and fathers. Between the four of us, we have fourteen children," the band said in the statement. "Our wives and children have made many sacrifices while we have dedicated our lives to playing music together that glorifies God." In the statement, Newsboys members also revealed that Tait confessed to them and management that he had "been living a double-life" when he abruptly left the band in January. Movie enthusiasts will benefit from this week's Loving Giving Local donation. A local movie production company that sponsors a film festival is this week's recipient. Rhoxon Productions got a financial gift from Auto Express Resale Center. Rhoxon is an Erie-based non-profit independent film company that creates organic stories that promote a positive change. Besides creating art, Rhoxon strives to create jobs and educational opportunities in the film industry. 'Our last few projects have been about healing and about coping, and our next two are about revamping the social justice system,' said Katie Nixon, RhoxonProductions co-founder. 'That's sort of our creative endeavors, and we also create educational opportunities for people to learn how to do this professionally.' Nixon says Rhoxon has a vision of creating 50 new jobs in the film industry here. And she insists you no longer have to be on the East or West Coast to have a film career. 'No, the landscape has changed so much. Even Netflix has created their new studio out in Jersey. It's not just that you have be in New York or LA,' she explained. 'Erie is kinda a really interesting place. You have beach, you have woods, you have city, you have country all within 15 minutes of each other.' That landscape diversity, Nixon said, makes Northwest Pennsylvania the perfect place for shooting movies. This week's Loving Giving Local donation will help support an upcoming film festival. Nixon said, 'We started the only multi-genre film festival here in Erie. It's the Lake Effect Film Festival, which will be in September. So that money will go to help make that event possible.' On Saturday, June 14, D.C. will host the Army's 250th Birthday Parade, an event that is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of people to the National Mall, according to the United States Secret Service (USSS). The grand military parade, featuring Abrams main battle tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Stryker infantry carriers and Paladin howitzers, will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at the National Mall and go along Constitution Avenue between 15th and 23rd streets. The parade will also explore the Army's evolution dating back to the Revolutionary War with 6,600 soldiers in uniforms from the past and present, period-accurate equipment, flyovers and military bands, according to the Army.
