Anthony Davis injured in Dallas Mavericks debut, expected to miss NBA All-Star
Anthony Davis' first game for the Dallas Mavericks ended early after he suffered a non-contact injury during their 116-105 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday.
Davis, acquired last week from the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade involving Luka Doncic, had a strong debut, recording 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists before exiting late in the third quarter.
The 31-year-old fell to the floor clutching his lower body while attempting to defend a dunk by Alperen Sengun.
Despite Davis' departure, the Mavericks secured the win with contributions from Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving, who scored 13 points each.
Dallas led 65-48 at halftime but saw Houston cut the deficit to two in the third quarter before Naji Marshall and Irving helped seal the victory.
Davis downplayed concerns about his injury, saying,
'My leg got tight, like a little spasm… But I managed to loosen it up, and it's nothing serious. I'm fine.'
However, according to ESPN's Shams Charania, Davis has suffered a left adductor strain and is expected to miss several weeks, ruling him out until after the NBA All-Star break.
He was selected as an All-Star for the 10th time but will be unable to participate.
The Mavericks next face the Denver Nuggets as they continue their season without their new star.

Did Caitlin Clark leave the WNBA? Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White addresses latest WNBA defeat to Atlanta Dream
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is still sidelined by a left quadriceps strain sustained on May 24 during a game against the New York Liberty. As the 2025 WNBA season progresses, Clark missed her fifth consecutive game on Tuesday night as the Fever were defeated 58-77 by Atlanta Dream. Despite her absence, Clark's impact is still being felt, with her impressive early-season performance still fresh in the minds of fans and analysts alike. In the four games she played, Clark averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists, solidifying her status as one of the league's MVP frontrunners. Fever head coach Stephanie White addressed her team's lack of physicality, especially in the absence of Caitlin Clark, as a concern. "Their physicality on the defensive end really affected us," White said. "It took us out of what we wanted to do and forced us to rush offensively. They've got really good shifty guards that can get downhill and and we didn't do a good job of guarding our yard or being in rotation." Hours before Tuesday's matchup, the WNBA made a significant announcement: Clark's backcourt partner, Kelsey Mitchell, had been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Mitchell's stellar performance helped the Fever remain competitive, even without Clark in the lineup. The guard averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists over the past week, leading Indiana to a perfect 2-0 record. The league shared the news on social media, highlighting Mitchell's exceptional contributions: 'For the first time this season, Kelsey Mitchell is named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.' Mitchell has truly stepped up in Clark's absence, particularly in the Fever's victories over the Washington Mystics (85-76) and the Chicago Sky (79-52). Clark's response to Mitchell's achievement was brief but telling. She reposted the announcement on her Instagram story, with no accompanying words, letting the accomplishment speak for itself. Mitchell, drafted No. 2 overall by the Fever in the 2018 WNBA Draft, has been a staple of the team throughout her career. This season, she is playing under a one-year, $249,244 contract, the highest salary in the league. Mitchell's impressive resume includes two WNBA All-Star selections and a place on the All-Rookie Team in her first season.

Sky vs Sparks 78-91: Is Angel Reese on her way out of Chicago? Star admits it's 'tough' losing 3-in-a-row
The Chicago Sky's tough start to the 2025 WNBA season continued on Sunday as they fell to the Los Angeles Sparks 91-78, marking their third consecutive loss. After a season-opening defeat to the Indiana Fever and another setback in their home opener against the New York Liberty, Chicago remains winless with an 0-3 record. Despite the defeat, the Sky found a silver lining in Angel Reese's standout performance at Arena. The 2024 WNBA All-Star had struggled in the first two games of the season, shooting just five-for-22 from the field. However, on Sunday, Reese bounced back in a major way, finishing with a double-double: 13 points and 12 rebounds, alongside four assists and two steals. She also shot a more efficient 5-for-11 from the field. Following the game, Chicago made an announcement on social media, naming Reese the Player of the Game. 'Double double for 5️⃣‼️,' the team posted, accompanied by a graphic of Reese's stats. Despite their overall struggles, Reese's effort was a bright spot for the Sky, who sit in last place in the Eastern Conference. Post-match, Reese was visibly frustrated with the game. Her demeanor in the post-match press conference led many to believe she might be looking at her WNBA future elsewhere. Chicago finished at the bottom of the East in 2024 and is hoping to turn things around under new head coach Tyler Marsh. With the season still in its early stages, the Sky will be looking for their first win on Tuesday against the Phoenix Mercury. While their 0-3 record remains concerning, Reese's bounce-back performance offers a glimmer of hope for the team moving forward.
