Mar 28, 2025
The Haramain High Speed Railway – the fastest means of transportation between Jeddah and Makkah, and between Makkah and Madinah – recorded its highest number of daily passengers since its launch in 2018.
The number of passengers reached over 48,000 halfway through Ramadan on March 15th. Since the beginning of the holy month, the average daily passenger count has exceeded 39,000. The record was achieved after the Saudi Railways Company (SAR) gradually increased the number of trips to 130 trips per day for the last ten days of Ramadan.
Before the start of the season, the Haramain train provided 1.6 million seats across more than 3,400 trips. The high speed train operates on a 453-kilometer electric line and is ranked among the 10 fastest trains in the world, with an operational speed of up to 300 km/h.

SAR 3,000 Fine for Taxi Drivers Who Disable Fare Meters During Hajj
The new regulation aims to prevent fare manipulation and ensure fair transport services for pilgrims. The Transport General Authority has introduced a new regulation imposing a SAR 3,000 fine on taxi drivers who disable their fare meters during the Hajj season. The measure is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency, safety, and fairness in transportation services for the millions of pilgrims arriving in Makkah for Hajj 1446H. The regulation addresses ongoing concerns over unauthorised fare increases, with some drivers reportedly bypassing digital meters to charge inflated rates during peak periods. The authority confirmed that such practices will now face immediate penalties, as inspection teams intensify monitoring efforts across designated transport zones. All authorised Hajj taxis are required to meet strict technical requirements, including active digital fare meters, electronic payment terminals, printed receipt systems, and clear vehicle identification. The regulation aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader plans to improve service quality during the Hajj period and protect pilgrims from exploitative practices.

Gs Is Filling The Bagel-Sized Hole In Cairo's Culinary Soul
Gs Is Filling The Bagel-Sized Hole In Cairo's Culinary Soul From Manhattan Isle to The Isle, Sheikh Zayed, two sisters are on a mission to bring its much-needed schmear fix. When my parents flew in to visit me in Cairo, they asked the usual question: What should we bring you? My answer was immediate and embarrassingly desperate: Bagels. Proper, chewy, New York-Style bagels. Because while Cairo may have conquered most cuisines, there has long existed a bagel-shaped void in the city's foodscape. Apparently, I wasn't alone in my yearning. Sisters Naira and Hajar Abo Elnaga felt it too, and decided to do something about it. Enter G's Bagels & Coffee, a one-stop-shop where bagels are the main event, not just an afterthought. The idea began on an innocent trip to New York. Hajar Alhoussein Abo Elnaga was completing the quintessential New York activity - waiting in line for a bagel - and she had an epiphany. Cairo was missing out. Big time. One phone call later, Naira, Hajar's sister, had booked her own ticket to New York. Together, they began their doughy revolution. Taking inspiration from the iconic cross sections of New York's stacked bagel sandwiches, the menu was crafted in collaboration with Chef Omar Abdelaziz. It's all about bold flavours and visual drama. Think Tropical Roast Beef Bagel (Naira's favourite) or the Falafel Bagel that stole the show this Ramadan. And for the bagel purists, there's an entire lineup of schmears - those dreamy cream cheese spreads - to further enforce the authenticity of their New York style offerings. 'We knew we wanted to create the best flavors, finest quality ingredients, and uniquely crafted layers,' Hajar and Naira tell SceneEats. 'We engineered our menu to suit every time of the day.' Because of course bagels should never be limited to the province of 'breakfast food' - they're an all-day affair. Thanks to Naira's graphic design background, G's is dripping in visual flair too. From the vibrant branding to the store's punchy interior, every detail reflects the brand's personality: 'fun, young, joyful, and vibrant.' And yes, there's more to come. G's is planning on spreading their gospel of carbs and cream cheese to bagel-starved locations across Egypt and beyond. The bagel revolution is coming. Schmear the word.
