In a Los Angeles cinema, a trench-coat-wearing Neo bends backwards to dodge bullets that spiral over the viewer's head, as the sound of gunfire erupts from everywhere.
This new immersive experience is designed to be a red-pill moment that will get film fans off their sofas at a time when the movie industry is desperate to bring back audiences.
Cosm, which has venues in Los Angeles and Dallas in the United States, is launching its dome-style screen and 3D sets in June with a 'shared reality' version of
The Matrix , the cult 1999 film starring
Keanu Reeves as a man who suddenly learns his world is a fiction.
'We believe the future will be more immersive and more experiential,' said Cosm president Jeb Terry at a recent preview screening.

Trump-Xi call on US-China trade tensions heightens Taiwanese fears of being marginalised
The call focused on easing trade tensions, but Xi also said that the US 'must handle the Taiwan question with prudence' and make sure 'fringe separatists' did not drag China and the US into 'confrontation or even conflict', according to state news agency Xinhua. While Trump posted on social media that his 90-minute conversation with Xi 'focused almost entirely on TRADE', Xinhua quoted him as saying the US 'will honour the one-China policy'. The call reinforced the sense of growing scepticism in Taiwan towards the US as a result of Trump's comments on defence, semiconductors and the tariffs he imposed on the island. 'Mainland China's usual practice is they only make a phone call when a certain consensus can be reached,' Cheng Chao-hsin, the deputy mayor of Taichung city told local media. 'This makes us very anxious about Taiwan's trade negotiations, as we now find that both Japan and the mainland are ahead of us.'

No polled US firms in China shifting production back to US, AmCham survey finds
Tariffs imposed by Washington have not only squeezed Chinese exporters, many US businesses operating in China are also finding themselves caught in the crossfire of a trade war they cannot control, according to fresh findings from a US business chamber. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump's plan to bring manufacturing back to the US may face challenges, as American firms said they were localising in China, rather than returning home. The escalation of US-China trade tensions – particularly through tariffs – is placing mounting pressure on US companies operating in China, with increased costs and reduced competitiveness, according to the results of a survey by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in China. It was conducted from May 23-28, with responses from 112 member companies across various sectors. 'Tariffs are an added challenge for our member companies at a time when operating in China is already becoming more complex,' said Alvin Liu, AmCham China chair. Despite the challenges, however, most companies are not planning to exit China, the survey found. 'Instead, they are localising operations or shifting some production to third countries,' AmCham China said in a statement about the findings. 'None report shifting production back to the US.'
